Hey, I just saw that terran and zerg unit have shield(with SF). Unit (Terran and zerg) has a 100 shield but cocons or spider mine for exemple have a zero point shield...
I've tried to hit a rine with 100 shield and a rine with 0 shield with a wraiht with 5 damage and both units lose the same number of point...
Does shield have an utility with zerg or terran or not?
thx making this clearer

Well firstly to clarify...
You CANNOT have shields on any unit thats not supposed to have it within the regular SC or BW..
There are shields for the units because, im predicting that it was alot easier to code it with the option to put shields for all units then to selectively create the boxes. Either that or, SC was built so it would give the option to put sheilds for units that don't allow it, but upon playing the map the game removes the shields.
So, a zergling cannot have shields... even though theres a box for it...
and Terran and Zerg units cannot have shields...
But, you can have shields if you create a MOD of the game, which is a modified version of the game created by users. Heck, in a mod you can make zlings shoot nukes and rines walk upside down; its madness, madness is say!
Hope this helps..
Yeah, my curiosity is satisfied
thx a lot

No problem....
by the way, if you were interested in the MODs, there are a few sites online that still host the mod making tools. You can download them and use them to your advantage.
The programs that were most popular were the programs: Stargraft, Arsenal, and SCEP (I think it was scep2). These programs seriously break the program and allow for some bogus things to happen... even importing your own pictures. I remember playing a pokemon mod... oh god... =X... it had pictures of pokemon... and sounds too...
The best mod ever was probably the Gundam Wing mod which had highly detailed units with insane modifications, it even had its own server to play on!.
Although these MODs and programs are great, you gotta install a lower version of SC or BW to play them I believe 1.07 or lower; could be 1.08.
Edit: I added a semi-colon...
If you set a terran or zerg units shields over 9999, you can't see their hp, but that's about it.
Hehe if you use Scmdraft and you place a terran unit, you select it and it will show the wireframe of the terran unit with a shield around it

. Useless but cool to see.
The shield number also affects glowing health trick. For some reason when I use the shield box and the other boxes to try to make glowing health, it only works about half of the time. Like I start the mission and the health is blue, and restart and the health is now normal. It does affect the processing in some way, but I dont know how much.

has nothing to do with shields or anything else. There is a random array of wireframes for every terran/toss unit. If you play normal SC, set two Missile Turrets to 50% hp and notice that different areas are yellow/red.
The shield value shows up because all units have a set shield value. They also have a boolean "shields" modifier that says where they have shields. hiemidal made it so he didn't bother "disabling" the shield box when the shield boolean was false. Just like it "seems" you can put an air attack on a firebat but you can't.
There's a sprite that crashes and it's a zergling with a shield (or so I'm told).
or so you're told. never heard of it.
If you want anything to have a shield that isn't supposed to normally, you have to use a mod. SF apparently displays alot of things that can't actually be used, or modified. You'd need to set 'ShieldEnable=0' to 'ShieldEnable=1' in the units.dat file in your MPQ to get anything to have a shield.
Shadowbrood is talking about unit 2008, which has a image of a zergling in game and a moss rock in starforge.
The unit is very "W I D E" so it can be attacked from around 70 tiles away.
Crashes on clicking and always appears on top of everything else, e.g. interceptors fly under it (even though it is interpreted as a ground unit when attacked)
Don't believe me? try

isn't the unit n°2007 ??

That's an extended unit not a sprite and I believe that. Don't most extended units have shields?

It's not that apparent. Starforge extracts the units.dat information and Heimidal didn't want to waster the time programming the unit editor so the un-editable fields for each unit go gray.
so terren and zerg units can have shield??

They cannot "have" a shield that is like a HP type thing, but in the unit wireframe, it can look like the unit has a shield, with the glowing blue.
is there an edit that can help you create these impossible things,
like: creating units with shield even though they cannot have sheild, or creating units just with sheild?
Units that don't already have shields cannot be "made" to have shields. It will crash SC. Unless you make a mod, but that's a whole different story.
