Ive been trying for a few days to create a string that when a charactor dies all there ups are cleared so basicly they have to start over.
Can anyone help me with this or at least tell me theres no way to do it.
Hi! I remember you from the channel!
No, the starcraft engine doesn't support downgrading. You could bring down the HP though.
Too bad there ain't no downgradin'! Or upgr'ding individu-all units!
No downgrading...I suggest that they have no ups but have like a hero with 10+ attack 3+ armor and 100+ health and when that hero dies give them a normal unit with normal settings then make the player work back up to that hero unit
AGH why do my posts keep dissappearing?!
Well, the problem with that is...:
A) That unit might not HAVE a hero or non-hero counterpart
B) That's not a gradual increase, it's a sudden jump, and is thus not like upgrading
and
C) The hero might be a Jim Raynor(Marine) unit, and one of the enemies might be a MArine. In that case, it wouldn't work.
Simple just give it to a player with zero upgrades and then give it to them; i remember in the old versions this kept it at the originals settings? That changed now? It was a fun feature!
Giving a player a unt with 0 upgrades wont work. Players can only gain research and upgrades, they cannot lose them. And all units that player commands automatically has the upgrades for it.
Reducing ups simply doesn't work. The closest you can get is if you use a select commands style battle, i.e.
There's four boxes, 2 with the battlers, 2 with attack lists. The people select attacks and they use triggers to do damage.
Using a turn based "card" system is the only way I know of to downgrade. Sorry \:
Here's a possible solution if the game is based off experience.
When they die, give them 1 custom (using something like custom score or deaths of a unit) for every 2 razings (or experience) they have untill they have 0 exp. Then give them a normal unit that cannot have upgrades (doesn't matter what unit, its your choice -- It could be like a marine or something with low stats) and have them gain exp with that. All the time reducing the custom instead of giving them exp. When they reach 0 custom, then give them their old unit back and allow them to gain normal exp again. Go back to sentence one and read this again.

Thats a great idea Chu! Thats what we're all about, bending the limits of staredit, and I Chu's a genius at it.
This could possibily work with a respawn wait, Minimized HP/MP or possibily starting from an undesirable location to make it more balenced?
You're not the only one who thinks that. I just wish I had enough motivation to complete half my maps.
I probaly do it more than you do. You should of seen all my failed maps. Theres truckloads of them.
I haven't even been mapping for long and I have a lot too...

I bet there are hundreds and hundreds of people like that... over a dozen at SEN alone, I'm sure, not including me.
What I don't like about Chu's idea though is that you can't build back up, it's just something sudden. You're weak, you're strong, you're stronger, you're strongerer, you're strongererer, you die, you're weak again, you're all of a sudden strongererer again. It's why I like that idea of the map I was going to make where it's turn based. I'm gonna post that in the ideas thread!
Hes got a good point. There is such thing as being TOO strong, and you become hard to bring down (reminds me of 9999 marine)
The map concept will have to be masterfully done to allow you to play with balence.

balance
Derr... what's balance?
Who, on B.Net other than the few people like SEN, likes balance?
I mean, wanting to be able to win a meaningless victory that won't show on your record(UMS) is so important to some people they'll rig maps, use hacks, drop enemies, etc etc.
No; the majority of people on Battle.Net do like a challenge and see cheating or rigging as wrong, sadly some don't but then wat'ja going do?
