I read an article that said that the Hubble space Telescope found and took pictures of a planet about 1.5 times bigger than Jupiter revolving around a brown dwarf star just outside of our solar system!

Has anyone else heard about this? Please tell me!

It's definitely an alien planet, angry aliens, they're going to kill us all. Stay away.

I was watching TV and and saw a little segment and the scientest said the persentage of a star having its own planets is only around a 0.33% chance and to have life on it even slimer...

Hmm, I've just noticed the problem with the opening post: You say that there is a star just outside our solar system?

Surely we would have seen it long before now - after all - even if it is a brown dwarf (very dim star), it's proximity coupled with the fact that we have pretty advanced sensors would mean that it would have been discovered a long time ago.

Actually, sensors are not that advanced. No sensors can just 'detect planets'.

I was talking about detection of the brown dwarf, not the planets, DeathKnight.

what kind of planet is it? You only said it was 1.5 times bigger than Jupiter, not what it is like. Also, the closest star is 4 light years away. But, then again, this star may be closer...

And yes, it is an alien world, but it has no alien life (that we know of)

Old news. They've since found a few hundred other Jupiter-sized planets around other stars, as they can tell which ones have them I think by the movements of the star itself, since the planets have a slight gravitational effect on their movements. Been awhile since I read that article though, so I forget the details.

If its 1.5 the size of jupiter it would be a gas planet, so there is no life on it, tehn again it could have moons that can support life.

That reminds me, anyone know what happened to that probe that reacred that icey moon of jupiter (forget its name), i wana know if theres any alien fish under the ice blink.gif

They took some pictures of orange rocks. The seas there are made of liquid methane, so I doubt they support any life. I think they're analysing the data from the probe now - it will take some years, so keep hoping.

MAYBE THERES ALIEN GRUNTS THERE!!!1!!
lol, no.
Its weird, I'm pretty sure it took like 8 years for it to get there, and we get like an hour transmission from it. What's up with that?

I'm mad at NASA, they're wasting ALOT of money, I mean BILLIONS of dollars. They're looking into space, in hopes of finding aliens, which we will NEVER find, and even if we did, there would be no way to communicate with them, so stop looking. They also keep shooting crap into space, trying to find out more about stuff OFF this planet. We know LESS about the OCEANS ON THIS PLANET, than we do about space. If you ask me, and noone does, they're wasting our money.
