1337 is the way people talk to be "cool"
It mostly started when people playing CS (Counter Strike) would talk weird and replace their letters with characters, numbers, and symbols to confuse their enemies. 1337 is derived from the word elite which means high quality, upper class, superior, fine, above average, great, wonderful, skillful. They shortened it to leet which soon became 1337. There are many 1337 translators made from javascript to help people better understand this new "language." Now 1337 is spoken on online games all over the world.

This is not a complete list but just most of the simpler variations.
No, no, you put Y under J. J goes under Y, not the other way around.
See:
Juice > Y(_)!53 (doesn't sound right)
You > J00 (does sound right)
I always thought 1337 was invented to prevent search sites from finding your sites oO_ CS... jeez...
Wrong, not from CS,

You = J00 always seemed more like a fake typo joke to me, combined with leet, like the and teh.
isnt one of the terrorists called the 1337 Crew or soem

1337 all started with hackers. They would put stuff on their sites, but search engines would find their 'stuff'. They replaces characters with similar looking characters to fool the searches. One thing led to another and it turned out like 7#15.
