Staredit Network -> Games -> Stupid Ratings for Games
Report, edit, etc...Posted by assassin_498 on 2005-01-25 at 22:20:58
Here, we're going to talk about stupid overrated games, like E, T, etc. I know too many games that are overrated because of one reason - violence. There is one game that I have for xbox - its called Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. To my opinion, its sort of underrated. Its rated T for violence and strong language. It beeps out some of the words, but you can still hear some words like dumbass, but its really funny happy.gif

The rating system is mostly for parents. For younger kids you wouldn't want them to see violence or hear some swears.

Syphon Filter: 2/3
The first one and Omega Strainare rated good. THe first one isn't bad, and is rated teen, Omega Strain is rated M, but understandable since people curse at you and alot of other stuff. The Second and Third were like the first almost, but rated M. Only difference I see between 1 and 2 is that when you slit peoples throats they get like completely (fake) bloddy biggrin.gif

This was a simple glitch in printing, I went to buy Mercenaries and Resident Evil 4, was rated:
E
I thought it was funny as hell, I told the guy at the desk and he fixed it.

Some things are overrated though. Like Super Smash Brothers Melee.
It's rated T for Violence and Comic Mischief?

Anything that invovlves hurting another thing will become T or M. Excluding the "kiddy" killings like in Kirby where you suck people and throw them at people. Back in the old days no one really cared about violence and things like that. Nowadays, it is really happening in our society and therefore we need to put in those tags for games.

bah, parents blame violence in society on something every couple of years. Comic books, T.V., movies, music, games.

Actually i have a funny story involving things like this. I work at target in the electronics section. Some lady was looking for games for her 12-13 year old i think, i asked what type of games he liked, and she said RPG so i recomended Final Fantasy X. She said that "sounded" a little innappropriate, so she instead wanted to get GRAND THEFT AUTO: SA. She thought that final fantasy sounded like a worse game than grand theft auto by title alone. so i had to explain how you can kill hookers in GTA. Idoit

LOL. That's hilarious. And BTW: Mercanaries kicks ass biggrin.gif

ANother one is Halo. I mean, its like a pouped up James bond. Only bad thing is like people saying like damn. THat's about it. Same with Perfect Dark (Old game) which is exactly the same as Goldeneye, except like more futuristicy.

You know how the group of people who rate games started? When the first Mortal Kombat came out in arcades, with excessive gore and violence. Before that, the blood and violence was a miniumum, and Nintendo's "No violence on this system" rule was in effect. After Mortal Kombat, Nintendo was forced to get rid of it, since they clearly saw the market potential in MK games. It's funny actually.

The ratings are used to keep kid under-aged kids from buying games full of violence, blood, killing, swearing and sex till they're ready to handle it. I've never had a problem with any of those, since I was brought up knowing that I shouldn't always listen to such things in video games, since it had no direct influence over me. Well, my parents didn't exactly teach me, I just learned stuff logically, from T.V ironically, and from computers. You make who you are in life. Some other people can't though, and the ratings are there to protect those kind of weak-minded people. pinch.gif

is he talking about the ESRB's game rating system? you guys can thank mortal kombat for that, it practically made the entire ESRB because of the ability to rip out a person's spine and what not, it made it to court, i dont know if it was supreme court or not, but mortal kombat's excessie violence causea great parental uprising

They only introduced the rating to make conpulsive parents STFU once and for all about violence in video games. And it worked. No one follows it.

They're good ratings (though useless).

true dat shadow paladin, true dat......its completely useless, if they dont see it in video games, they will see it in the news and at school, practically everyday i hear of some kid shooting up a school somewhere

I'ts true what Ultimo said. Even though a few games are overated or underated, MK was the worste for Nintendo. Mk is awsome though and people should never get rid of it happy.gif

The people who rate the games don't even play them, they watch clips of games and decide there.

SSBM got T for violence. If there was blood and gore, it would be rated M. If little kids play it, then WHO THE HELL CARES?!?! Anyways, I agree. It needs to be reviewed again.

you go to Japan, Violent game, Taboo.

Americans are a lot more used to violence so it isn't much at all for them. I mean I heard one guy saying Doom 3 should be rated T. thats just nuts.

I would personally have to say that the rating system is pretty much inifectual... I mean, seriously, not to many parents enforce it to the extent in which they should. Also on top of that even if the parent does enforc the rating system most kids are gonna see it somewhere else anyway... Like at a freinds house who's parents dont enforce the rules, lol. on a side note, i think the sadest is the kids who's parents dont let them play games even when their older then the rating. lol

The ratings are sometimes rediculous, but, one thing is worse, now, i dunno if its all of canada, ontario or just regionnal(probobly not), but now you need to be at least 17 or older to buy a mature game...cause while i as at eb, someone was buying gta:sa, and the store cashier said: "i need some i.d. to check if your 17 or older to buy this game"

And was, ssbm is way overrated....(looks at his games) starfox adventures is t also, what the...thats just wrong...other than the arwing, you dont even get an actual gun.

And heres a game that, in my opinion, deserves m for mature, shadow of rome for ps2, even though you can only get a demo of the game, you can slice arms, heads and body off the legs in this game, pretty bloody, the bodys and blood will stay there, you can even pick up heads and arms and use them as weapons lol. It just looks like an M game, cause all it is, is a slauther.

Man.. I still have some games that are rated K-A. I think I have some from before the ratings were introduced, too! All those one Atari games, like pong need to be rated AO, for adult pixelation, and violent ball hitting.
