I second that motion. happy.gif
Since FF (with a few plugins, or course), I didn't had further problems related to spy/addware crap from browsing the Net.

Speaking of spyware, why do people use kazaa? If they knew it would give them a hell load of crap, THEY STILL USE IT!!!! These people must be getting dumber and dumber these days. My sisters use LimeWire, and so me and my friends. Personally, I find LimeWire to be much better than Kazaa. WinMX isn't as bad either, but the bandwidth that people are giving out just plain sucks. BTW, Spybot is a good anti-spyware program. My family and friends use it all the time.

My high school used to have a major virus on it - even though it had the most up to date virus definitions and it was using macaffe. So what I did, was I installed norton anti-virus on every computer and I removed all of the viruses. Since then they haven't had any major problems that this virus caused.

As for spyware... I have gotten it quite a bit when I install bundled software such as imesh. I found a program called ad-aware that let me remove ALL of the spyware. It is also effective with safetly removing any spyware, malware, <insert the name here>ware, too!
Pekkel_the_duck has used this program, and after he removed the spyware his computer was quite a bit faster. (At least, that's what he told me after I recommended the program to him.)

If you can't use norton antivirus, you could use Girs soft AVG anti-virus... http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

Also, sorry for being a bit mad. I thought I posted a link for a free anti-virus program.

Worst experience was today.. with..

CoolWeb spyware.

Some of the hardest to remove, spybot S&D, ad-aware removed it, but it kept coming back.

It changed my home page to porn and kept navigating to random porn websites (this is on my dads comp, he wants to use IE, not FF).

After hours of research I finally executed a program to permantely remove the file from MSCONFIG, and delete from the registry 'run' folder. This took me about 5 hours to do, since the file kept recreating itself, reopening itself, and kept changing the home page every 5 seconds..

NO spyware searching programs could remove this.

I have yet to see a virus do this. However, I have 2 hard drives and 2 CD roms. When I was messing around in the system properties, I changed the way my computer gets access to my hard drives. Before I did this, my hard drives were considered the parent devices, and my CD roms were considered my child devices. When I had to reboot my computer, I could use only one hard drive and I couldn't get access to my CD roms. So I undid what I did, I rebooted my computer, and then it worked just fine.

You have no idea what you are talking about, don't you KillerDrill900? A virus, once on your computer, does NOT deactivate its self if you reboot your computer. In fact, that makes it worse.

First of all, you get both...everyone who uses the internet and surf's it will get a virus often including alot of spyware. Thing is with virus's they jump onto your system untracked. Sometimes anti-virus can detect this, but if you have no form of protection at the time thats when your open to it. Plus virus's are always being updated to get past anti-virus programs undetected. So a virus can hop onto your computer at ANY time without you suspecting it.

And spyware......ah yes the favourite of them all, and its like hops onto your computer without you knowing......tons of that rubbish is popping up. You cannot avoid that for long. Spyware just likes to watch what your doing and strikes you taking to other pages of the internet such as porn instead of going where you wanted it. So no computer is safe without weekly updates of a firewall, anti virus program, anti spyware programs and the like...

I use SoulSeek. It's free as many n' spy/addware free.
And I find almost everything I want with it.
Shareaza also does a nice job. And it can connect to eMule servers along with the ol' and new Gnucleus network.

These two are the better P2P file sharing apps that I know.

Go here and see what you can do. Browse below to the sentence, "How do I get rid of it?".
CWS Shedder removes all traces of it, inside your PC. wink.gif
Or even the apps I suggested in my 1st post in here to clean these menaces. I know that SpyBot / Ad-Aware SE combo detects many of'em.

This seems that you've been messing with your OS or Bios system's settings. Recall what you've made (or anyone that uses your PC in that area) and set it back (if possible). blink.gif

As I'm beggining to get acquainted to your way of posting have came to realize this, you post even when you don't know jack-s**t of the issue at hand.
So, please don't try it. You'll only get in the way and slow our answering rate. dry.gif

-------------
To the rest of the fellas infected or that suspect that got infected by these spy/addware 'apps', check my 1st post here for free cleaning tools. happy.gif
I call spy/addware crap like virus 'apps', since they install in your system without your consent and many times without your knowledge also. mad.gif

And for countering virus, I'd suggest AVG or even McAfee Stinger. But beware that this last one (Stinger) it's sometimes a little rough on the edges... aka harsh on the system (ignores if file is needed by the OS). For Anti-Virus apps, I many times suggest a real paid prog, since it's a real damaging risk to your PC. ermm.gif
A search will prob'ly find'em. But in these researches for countering apps, always go fo the source (aka manufacturer site). It's the best way of avoiding bundled spy/addware s**t coming along with the installing files. wink.gif

Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2005-02-21 at 16:36:05
Use KaZaA-Lite not KaZaA, it's spyware free (unless you install something, which is idiotic to begin with) and virus free, and it comes with many features like "butting" people out of "line" or getting someone else's bandwidth before they do. Plus you get access to the largest P2P network in existence. Built in IP-blocker keeps you safe from anyone that might be watching, and you can make it so people cannot access your files via username, only with searches. I've gotten many 250k+/sec downloads on there, and I just heard that Comcast is updating the bandwidth even more (current speed is 3mb/sec). The fastest I've ever downloaded something is 450k/sec.

No, I don't think so. 1, the cable might not have a safe gaurd, which means you can put the cable on two ways but only one of the ways works, or 2, make sure your hard drive(s) are set to "both". Get into your system properties, locate one of your hard drive(s), and then double click on it.

I use Norton 05, Stinger,Spysweeper,spybot,cw_shredder,hijacker for the most part.
If I don't have the ability to delete the file the normal way I start in safe mode w/command prompt.
Usually that gets them for the mostpart.
