I didn't mean actually playing solo, I meant that he/she doesn't have to wait for the team to come along to get somewhere or kill some things. If he/she can switch to a kerri, the player can go off on a seperate route or something. I still think medic as a wizard type that eventually can buy a gun to become kerri is best idea.

We haven't decided really yet... I haven't seen torrasque in a while and I
really don't know how the terrain is coming... When i see him or he can post here about his opinions
Im here all right, but ive been really sick lately, its killing me, but im trying to finish enough to post about 4 secreenshots on friday.
I also hate to say it, but i agree with odd. The Carachter class system is mostly gonna be him...i also am working on a way to save space by using deathcounts and a grid to make every building be in the same place, but with a different layout avery time.

*For the medic thing.. maybe you could have an area (like items area) where there is a beacon. now the medic say, is a ghost or something i dont know. but then at the beacon area, you choose a beacon to heal or do bad spells or something. moving to heal will create a medic in the ghosts position.. i dont know exactly just thought that would be interesting idea for you to use..

This is what I was talking about. Give the medic spells, and then allow it to switch to and fro a Kerrigan.
I'm not sure, but are you going to have one player be a defiler that uses dark swarm, in addition to characters that can attack normally? I had thought that this would definitely be a cool addition as a character class to any map, but balancing it would certainly be challenging. I think that the best way would be to have the other characters have high damage but low life, allowing them to kill enemies equally as fast. Abilities could definitely be a huge plus in such a scenario.

Mabe like a dropship system where you have to unload units in the right order
and it will give you hints but you will have to figure out the puzzle

OK, New idea... COMING THROUGH.
I am starting to think that not all 5 players are needed to play this game. We could simply just set it so that if the hacker isnt there, we can makeit so that a player has the hackers BASIC abillities. while doing that this means that the hacker could unlock secret Extras, for better weapons or more money etc.etc... i just came up with the hackers stuff anyway.

So an average Party should have
1 Medic
1 Hacker
1 Sniper/Pyro
2 Gunner
You can always switch it up though...
This makes it ALWAYS Different and people will have to find
the best stratagies and unit combinations to beat the map
PS: The terrain could be better... make it look like NewYork...

Having characters in a game that are somewhat "Necessary" is a good idea. This way noobs will never beat your map, and they will just leave. If you have the Hacker able to so say, open doors 10x faster then any other Player, then he's a "Favorable" party Player. And of course not having him makes other areas unavailable and what not. So he wouldn't be "Required" but without him you'd probably lose anyway, from not having enough Neccessary Items/ Ammo/ etc.
So you don't really come out and say what units you need, you just make each different Player Extremely good at this or that, and people can find the Best combinations of units.(As Oddangel said) I think this would make your game very good.
And don't just make the Hacker be that Type of Player, do stuff like that for at least 3 of the units(So far it looks like Medic and Hacker are "Gameplay Required" Favorites) Try to make 1 more player be somewhat necessary. That'd make the Map for Pros only
I fail to see how by forcing the players to have certain units makes the game "Pro's only." In my opinion this makes the game more favorable to newbs who just get a full house and race through everything. Foreknowledge of what is required does not make you a good player; it makes you an experienced player. The two are much distinquished, especially in the case of RPG's. A good player can beat a fair map the first time. An experienced player will always be able to beat the map once he/she learns the tricks required to win.
Ill say this 1 last time... We are not FORCING the players to be certain units... They chose who they want to be...
Sometimes it is better to have a sniper if you dont want to get in close and would rather stay back and kill... Mabe your team needs a medic... Mabe you like to use spells and abilites.
You Chose
Every class will have special places that only they can reach... For example the hacker can open doors... The medic can heal poison and can walk through gas because of the gasmask they wear. The sniper can fire from long distances and doesn't sue as much ammo...
Every class will have their own unique ups and downs
