Umm, what do 2008 do?
I don't see anywhere were anyone said what it did.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Doodle77(MM) on 2005-04-19 at 15:20:37
i was bored so i tested 2 random ones. here they are
2525 makes a rock sprite sorta like disabling a valk, but i was looking at it so it doest crash wen u look.
and i <3 this one.
1678 is a nexus that is a unit and so can be hallucinated, crashes on click, and is about the size of a dragoon, can be stasised, but the stasis thingy appears only in the very middle.

Umm... Well I've been veiwing these things and comparing them to the already in place list of 228+ units. And it seems like most of these have been found to do nothing we haven't known already.

I think you should compare your findings with the corresponding units here before you submit your findings.
Sure it ends at 2152, but some of the ones I've seen have duplicated many results.

Unit 3312 is pretty cool, not that it could be used for much though. Its a scrouge which goes under everything, its a ground unit, however it does not take any space up because hallucinations go on it. It dies when recalled, now heres the weird part, IT CAN LOAD 20-25 UNITS! Once its loaded to the max, it won't be selected when you highlight a group of units. When selected with another unit, its wireframe is a hero marine. Has a shield and mana. Crashes when selected.

BTW, I'm using 1.12b.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-04-20 at 11:51:36
I need to try that one. Really really bad.

ADDITION:
Looking at that list made me realize something imporant. When you test the units do it like this:
3000-3478 = Nothing and Crash
#479 = WIERD!
This way you can find the wierd ones without having to leaf through all the crashes (DO YOU HEAR ME DOODLE!).
Also, highlight in red the ones that could end up being usful, and describe the reasons why.

ADDITION:
I looked through the list again. It bares no remblence to our list. So we should carry on.

You realize someone could just write a program to calculate every effect of all 65535 units. I have no skill in programming, so I wouldn't be able to do it.

It's possible to determine what changes the effects of these units using that method as well. I used a memory searcher to do something similar with extended players. If someone would want to write a program, I can find and provide them with the addresses.

Testing extended units can be fun, but only untill the next patch. You know there are extended units, extended players, extended portraits, extended colours, and most uncommon; extended tiles, extended trigger conditions/actions, extended player types/races, and some more things.

I've never tired the exstended tiles. Could you brief me on them.
And do you know anyone who could write such a program? It would really help out the SEN community.

I found something really weird with this unit. When you select it with another unit, it makes a random sound, but doesn't crash. Some of the sounds crash, though. It, like alot of extended units I've tried, are able to load units. Whats weird is a shuttle can load the nexus, but when it comes over it, it starts flashing stop and load repeatedly.

COOL! What else can I say.
It is now your job to throughly test the interesting units once we discover them. Your job is offical, the guy who started this thread says so!

All the extended tiles I've tried have crashed starcraft. I'f I'm talking about the same tiles as you are. If your talking about the doodads that weren't used in the normal editor, in which case they are pretty easy to figure out. (example would be the raised jungle ramp)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by glytchur on 2005-04-20 at 21:21:01
the raised jungle ramp doesnt crash though does it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2005-04-20 at 22:09:15
I just mean by modifying the tile being used in a certain area. They are stored as numbers, 0-65535. There are not 65536 tiles, just like there are not 65536 units. If units can make some weird effects, then I'm thinking tiles can too, and it might be interesting, it might not. You'd probably need a hex editor to change the tile number.

whoa, i never thought of that...

Ya, as I said I tried a couple of these, and they all crashed. There might be a few out there though. biggrin.gif (Pictures weird tile effects, like not allowing air to pass over or walkable water)

Who? Me? If it is, sure, I'll do that. I'd be glad to. Send me a PM of all the extended units that don't crash, and I'll see what I can find out about them.

EDIT: Found something pretty cool. Its a dropship that takes up 0 food, goes under everything, and cannot be selected. I put like 300 of them on this map in the screenshot below, so they can't be sprites. The ID of this unit is 1134, in case anyone wants to know.

Unfortenately, no. I just tried. Weird... first time I tried, 1134 didn't even show up on the map.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-04-23 at 10:45:08
You might be able to move them with hex editing.

I never got around to testing it. Remind me to do that at some point.
Also there were other units that we found that you could walk over. 233 is one of them.
Think of it, it's a whole new type of terrain! The only problem, is that if you misclick, then BOOM CRASH.

ADDITION:
QUOTE(Heimdal @ Apr 17 2005, 08:26 PM)
You may not be able to create them, but you might be able to move them or give them to different players.  It's worth a shot.

I dont' think legacyweapon's argument  is valid (that it would not work because certain values of unit ID are reserved for things like men and buildings).  You could make a similar analogy for the player IDs:  certain ones are reserved for things like all players, etc.  However, a trigger that orders units for all players will not affect units belonging to players > 12, but if you make the trigger specifically for that player, it will affect it.

Someone needs to try it. I'm to lazy to learn how to hex edit.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by hidiho on 2005-04-23 at 14:44:44
Err, theres a problem. I don't know of any staredit programs besides starforge that allow you to make extended units, and starforge crashes when you try to test units over 35000 or something like that. If anyone knows of a program that can place all 65535 units, I would like to have it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-04-23 at 15:17:34
Umm, starforge v 3?
As I said before. To make full use of exstended units, learn to hex edit.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2005-04-23 at 18:15:08
Make a backup of your units.lst file before using this. This is units 9000 to 9799. You can use the unit selector on the sidebar to place them and test.

If anyone else wants me to make a fast list of units just PM me with the starting-ending number.

Question for people on this thread:

QUOTE(qPirateKing @ Mar 12 2005, 12:36 AM)
3. Find the number of sprites used in the entire map along the bottom of the editor window. (ex. "20 / 256 sprites on map")

QUOTE(Ðeathknight @ Apr 8 2005, 11:21 PM)
The sprite limit is not 255. It is much higher than 1700.

Some people tell me the sprite limit is 256, (a byte) but here dk says it's much higher then 1700. I'm confused? What is the acutal sprite limit?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2005-04-24 at 11:19:13
Well obviously, if the unit limit is 1700, and every unit uses at least one sprite, then there's no possible way it can be 255. It's 255 in Staredit.exe.

On another note:

All units can be moved, regardless what ID value or player value. All units can be given FROM any player, regardless its unit ID, to a main player(1-12). All units can be killed/removed regardless its owner and ID as well.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Doodle77(MM) on 2005-04-24 at 14:54:39
!!!!!!, it can load like 25 units! i hallucinated a DA a bunch of times and then told them to go in there and they kept going like sheeewop sheeewop and all going in there, which looks really weird.
QUOTE(Doodle77)
1268- scanner sweep that is clickable and stays there, but not targetable by anything but splash effects
I just managed to select this, it crashes about half the time you group select it, but when you mangage to it looks like a damaged marine... testing to see if it can go in transport.
3312 dies when it tries to unload with no units in it
also 3312 makes a very weird sound when it unloads, it sounds like its loading sound backwards.
