As I said, it would be very unlikely for this map to be finished. Even 50%, it'd still be unlikely.
Has any1 played Fallout(2/bos)? That's some RPG(tactics)!
Are you going to have:
1) Good
2) Lie about good
3) Ok / Normal
4) Bad
reactions?
This rpg sounds good, i noticed it's multiplayer and all, but if i was skilled enough and had the time for this, i'd get bored quickly and give up quite fast... so im not totally sure it will get finished, just like Tux's map... (A&O or w/e)
Most of you have mis-read what I said.
I didn't say my map was goign to be the first true RPG, I said that it has going to be a 50% True RPG, but more of a true RPG than any other map ever released before. Right now, I'm working on little sections when I have free time, btu once summer comes, I'll start to kcik in and finish it.
This map I'm talking about has been a Lost Project... Say 2 times already. I started it on December and worked until February a whole lot until I encountered a big bug with the system. Then I decided to work on it on late February, fixed the bug and worked for like a month fixing bugs(not even 50% are fixed) and then I left the map to gather dust. Now I'm starting to work on it again for the third time.
This map isn't about creating triggers day in and day out, you haev to think about how you will create your system ebfore you make it. You need to think of a system, test it, re-do it to make it more efficient and then you implement it into your map and then you have to de-bug it. It's a long process but it can be done.
The map is around 2/3 done and almsot every has been thought of. About 90% of the full map is already written on paper, just 2/3 of the whole thing is actually written in the trigegrs in the map.
In my mapt here is no difference between multiplayer and single player. Each Human Player uses only about 5 triggers becasue each human player can dot he exact same things as the other players.

Could You Make it That Persons Can Give Quests,Riddles
Yes you can, but it will take very long to make such a system. Also the quests that you will give to other players will have to be Pre-SEt, maybe using a beacon system because SC can't create new scenarios in game. Starcraft's triggers are more like HTML and not like PHP.
Anything, Anygame that you take the "role" of another person is classified as an RPG... So basicaly the hack and slash games are RPG's because you are someone who is attacking them...
strictly for the purpose of RPGs let me spell it out ROLE PLAYING GAME
which there is NO ROLE playing in any so called rpgs on battle.net
Which is why i like to stick to PC games that are roleplaying like MorrowWind
but thats just me, starcraft has its limits in making maps, and i would love to see a good true actually role playing game on sc but unitl then ist all about da melee
So you have been having big problems with bugs and such.
Could I help you at all with the debugging. I promise not to spread the uncompleted map, and I'm really good at debugging (in my opinion).
I'd rather do the map myself since it's quite advanced and I'd have to teach someone how every specific action works in conjunction with many other actions.
This is very good for people (like me) Who are making RPGs and do not know how to make it.
I was going to start and RPG, I got all this intro stuff, but I had no clue how the game was going to be set up. This makes you think more not just "Go to the cave and kill the White Dragon" then you kill it "Yay! Now we can pass through to the north!" and you win.
but more in detail and not making it so all the players are in the same spot, make lots of variables (so if one player gets to a meeting point or something too slow, it will change the course of the game).
I should include the "10 endings" thing. (In chrono trigger there are 12 endings: 10 winning endings, and 2 losing)
Good job for telling us what not to do if we ever want our RPG to be fun.

Well, you could give me the buggy map and let me look at it. Don't feel presured to show me what each trigger does. Just let me look at it, and if I can understand it, then great. If I don't, then nothing has gone wrong.
Mm, there could be implications. But hey, its been a while since ive heard any new maps from Beer.
It seems to me that the most popular kinds of rpgs are those that have many customization routes for your specific character. These customization factors are very evident in Diablo II and WC3, which allow for you to "customize" your characters.
If you were to incorporate a very classy and simplistic customization tree into your main characters, you could create a "fun" b.net map.
How long do you expect your gamers to be playing in your map?
In my RPG you buy items with minerals, you buy new special abilites with minerals and gas, and you buy upgrades with minerals...
So you can customize your guys. So mine will be 10 kinds of awomse!
Well, during tests I can range from 10 minutes to 45 minutes but do remember that it's still Alpha and it's highly unbalanced. I expect from 30min to 50min
About Customizing your units like in WC3. I just thought of something that will stand out if done. Instead of using one unit like a Marine for example for everything, you could "customize" what unit the player will be using.
First you have movement. The unit could be of slow speed like a reaver or be very fast like a vulture. Now hit points can easily be done, just create a powerup like a Crystal with HP, and once the HP of the character is determined you can modify the HP% of the Crystal and that can be used as your HP. You will also have to use a switch to make sure that HP never goes above the limit HP%. Now to attack just use another unit and always place it in a 2x2 location around the unit you will use to move. This way, if the unit atatcks with Melee it can move around to hit targets behind. The Crystal will also folllow the moving unit.
Now this seems simple but think of the other posibilities, your weapon can break and your ability to move can be disabled quite easily and you can attack/move then the other ability is disabled.
This thread isn't just about my upcoming map, it's about discussing new RPG Concepts.
You can make powerups with HP?
The extra powerups have HP.
This reminds me of the idea for that RPG I wanted to make using the hulucinated powerup trick and a probe. In this RPG you would buy different "weapons." Even if it wasn't that good, it would really impress most Bneters.
LOOOOL!!!!
My deepest apologies for laughing, but i am simply a noob,
an this is my very first time on Staredit.net,
and my very first post,
and I'm creating a map that acts on the basis/concept of exactly what you stated in that wonderfully long first post.
Since youre obviously more experienced then me, and I would really like the chance to get to work with a more experienced map maker, do you mind if we exchange ideas, etc etc? Because my map kinda extends upon true rpg and total freedom....its a really ambitions map, but its too small and i need to make it larger and convert all the triggers and whatnot.
Anyway, back to the subject, so would you consider some sort of partnership or map-maker exchange? I may be a noob but i learn fast =P
Thats all, cya.
I don't like playing RPGS over battlenet...
well ,because they are all KOREAN, (not that it's bad), they don't understand A
thing!
I like player againsts player maps like town wars.
Most good RPGs that are multiplayer have too big of a file size. Other RPGs are just created for single player, what you need is a great RPG that is fun and supports six or more players.

You can't detect unit hp % in starcraft. You can't create powerups with health in starcraft (you can only preplace them). A burrowed zergling is most often used for this. The best way to do it is probably to have the custom score be the unit's HP. That is the way it is done in my RPG, and it works really really well.
The only problem is it makes it so you can't hotkey you units.
such annoying minor problems.
You can't create crystals with unit properties???
I'm not sure, I'm pretty sure you can modify it's properties, but you can't change it's health? I haven't tried. I don't understand how BeeR_Keg's system would work though.
As a Yes/No feature you should add a bunker instead of some beacons, it's more efficent and it goes much faster to unload a unit from a bunker or make a civi walk to a beacon. Just my thoughts.
But you just used up the bunker for a yes/no system. -_-
Not only can you make a Yes/No system but you could do something like this:
Put 4 Units in a Bunker and label them 1, 2, 3, 4.
Now on the screen you put 4 choices of what to say.
1) Yes
2) No
3) Maybe
4) *Go Away*
Then the next time you can speak it'll say this"
1) I'll do it
2) Maybe
3) Hell No
4) Buy me a Beer
It's pretty good because with the same 4 units in a bunker you could have infinite amount of text which your character would say. It will be the exact same thing as a Kinghts of The Old Repuplic talking system.
I just figured out something, you can make a game like Kotor in a map, exactly the same.

You can't create or move a powerup with health (mineral chunks and gas containers) period. I tried it.
