I think SEN people overly observe people. And come to conclusions. What is being smart? Knowing every single detail of history? Or knowing how to do cal and pre cal? Those are just abilities people learn today. America is not an idiot country, do you know how hard it is to get a good job in this country? There is so much compition to accell. I have to say though that there is MANY MORE smart people in America now a days then before becuase A) There is more people living today in this country then before. But the percent of drop outs or 'dumb' people is greater then ever before.
Thats why gettting into an American college can be difficult becuase there are so many smart students all applying at roughly the same time. The biggest percent of dumb people would be inner city schools where kids care more about their hood and gang then they do about their school.

First off, I consider "smart" the ability to use ones head and actually learn, understand, think, and put effort into doing so, rather then just avoid doing the task. The amount of knowledge you actually posses doesn't really matter. Second, forget how many smart people there are. Its the percentage that really matters. We simply don't have the same ratio of intellectuals as we used to. There would be no real difference in ratio from back then till now if all these people didn't take everything for granted(Thank You for pointing this out, CheeZe) and actually cared about their futures and educations. And as for College, well, almost any foreigner from Japan, China, Korea, India, even Russia, that graduated from high schoo, could probably get through college without the same amount of trouble as Americans (provided that they aren't somehow..."modified"...by fellow dorm members or other such cases..). I just don't see that as a reason against it all, especially since most of our educational problems are from highschool and down.

Out of curiosity, but StarSChris, what grades do you beleive are good or even acceptable?
Smart and dumb people come out of every place in the united states. From what I've seen, most of the dumb people are Americans. I know four smart people in my school that are American. There are Americans who get good grades, but I know they're not actually "smart"; instead, they just study a lot. For me, that doesn't qualify as smart.

Even the A's people are dishing out nowadays mean nothing. If you got an A for Pre-Algebra, but you're in, what, 8th grade? Does that make you smart? Hell, you should atleast be in Geometry, those were the old standards I believe. And excluding Math, there are still other subjects where this sort of stuff happens. Grades don't mean shit, really. They're just something the system uses to determine your academic level, and its not really all that accurate.

Not knowing about History like mad doesnt make you stupid. And you people say all Americans are stupid, i beg to differ.
By the way, if i ever say that again, kill me. (beg to differ)

First off, you're taking us too literally. When one says "all," they don't really mean ALL. Its an exaggeration, and if you have possibly forgotten, then please allow me to remind you that the human race is very accustomed to exaggerating things.
And we aren't talking about what they don't know, its the fact they don't know it by now. Its of their ability, willingness and actuall effort, not the amount of knowledge they posess.
