I think this will be nescessary...[rant]

What happened to the good old days when Americans weren't lazy ass bastards that didn't know shit, and when it was only the bullies that were total and complete dumbasses? What happened to the good old days when nearly everyone was capable of competent thought? When did we turn into such idiots? What caused America to be one of the most biggest idiot houses in the world? Hell, I have lots of difficulty meeting people that can actually speak proper english. I'm not saying these people are bad people. But really, they are of average intelligence, but they should belong in classes 3 years below their own damn grade level! Its ridiculous!!! Does anyone know the cause of this? Can anyone guess? Please, do tell, because I've been wondering for quite a while why people in the world can't be like people on SEN(The nice ones that don't spam and put up good and informative posts that actually have points).

...er...O, I think I'm supposed to put one of these here...[/rant]

Righto, so there, I'm done. Anyone care to respond?

I think its a number of things. I also think your being too general. Many illegals cause that improper english you were talking about. Also inner city school don't produce that many smart students becuase many students there don't care about their future and many are involved in gangs and drop out. Also, schools today teach much more advanced things then schools use to teach. I think pressure to succede makes alot of people fail becuase they can't take the stress becuase in AMerica we have created the environment to succeed and if you don't have straight A's, then you will not go to college. And then makes some people say, "oh censored.gif it, Im not that smart, I will never get A's so why should I try?" and thats bad but true.

and now a days jocks are actually turning smart. I'm considered a jock becuase I play many sports, lacrosse and football for examples and Im smart. An upper classman is a total jock but gets straight A's and is going to George Town for College.

Its more of the girls who want to be like Paris Hilton and celebs like that, which cause these girls to care more about having fun, friends, and their bodies and how they look more then school. One girl in my grade didn't know who Tony Blair was......and another didn't know what trench war fare was.

It's suprising how many less people completed school in the old days, and how our education for the masses hasen't really improved even with more school.
Basically if you want to learn anything, your going to have to WANT to learn something. Schools don't teach, students learn.

First off, I'd have to agree about the girl thing, but this is once again with the stereotypes we see. Girls are actually more likely to be capable of competent thought if they werent like the stereotypical ones we seem to see today. Rather sad, really... There are the few that don't follow the shitiness of society, and those are the ones that succeed.

On another note, I never said jocks were idiots. I have many friends of my own that are jocks, but could just as easily be mathaticians. I said that it was usually the bully who had to force others to do his/her homework or jack money off of people that was the total and complete idiot, because they had to rely on the abilites of others rather then themself. I suppose you are right about the whole pressure thing, but thats not how it is at my school. I'm in middleschool, you see, the stuff the people are learning here is easily 2 grades under their grade level. 8th grades could still be learning exponents! Or even worse, fractions! (I got ot a middle school where its 6th-8th grade) Honestly, if there isn't something wrong with that, then I must be a total idiot (Which I'm not, and I can assure you that I'm not, because if I was, then I wouldn't be able to do Geometry, which I can, so I'm pretty sure I'm not).

And yes, I suppose I am being a little too general, but the majority of the population isnt really all too bright, you can't really argue with that, right? Well, there's the problem right there. People that have brains that don't use them are considered stupid. Those type of people make up most of the U.S., and thats all I was trying to point out at first.

Yes, I also believe illegals are causing some of the lower then low grades. I mean, it's not that theyre stupid, but really, most of them probably don't have an education, which means their kids won't really care all too much for learning, and this leads to a quick decrease in the percentage of intellectuals in the country. I believe that it is also often people like this who end up starting gangs and other such, and corrupt other parts of society into horrible messes (murders, drug dealing, other crimes, or simply even convincing others to join).

And as for the stress levels, that is only because people have no confidence in themselves and don't really put too much effort into their work at all. I'm pretty sure that's why, or else it wouldn't be as stressful because there would be allot less failures going on around the States.

But ofcourse, I could be wrong.

Yes, but in the old days, I believe there were more people that actually wanted to learn. That is what my topic is focusing on. Nowadays, hardly any of the average people give a shit about education. Hence, why I ask what happened to the old days, where there was actually effort to learn.

Tony Blair is like, that one guy from London who like, makes clothes or something right?

*Kame da Sniper hits my head into the wall repeatedly.

Thanks for the stereotypes. Maybe that's part of why we're all such 'idiots' and maybe my ACT scores were lying to me, and maybe Bill Gates doesn't know anything and never did anything, and maybe my friend's 4.03 (weighted grades) is a lie, and maybe its all fake.

Instead of complaining, maybe we should go out and do something. Like be a teacher or a tutor or a mentor or even sticking around a bunch of kids at any one given time; talk to your local 4-H club, boyscouts, girlscouts, church-heaven forbid, YMCA, YWCA. There are so many programs out there for you to help make a difference in some kids' lives. And when you do and they recognize you at the mall or whatever, it feels pretty frickin great to be able to go "hey Melissa. How is the singing going?" or "Hey Carli, tell me when the next dance recital is."

It doesn't take a whole lot to leave a lasting impression on a kid's mind. Of course, it can swing both ways. Get out there and volunteer, do something for the community; host a block party, orginize a night game night, where you watch the kids and play flag football and capture the flag while the parents go out, but heaven forbid, don't just sit there and bitch about it. That's onyl the first step to making a difference. If no one else will listen to you, bitch louder, but that comes third.

Except that that would only apply to the people that want to do something.
Part of the problem is, the people care more about their short-term comfort then their future.
Because these people detest school, anyone that spends more then ten second paying attention to a teacher on any given school day is considered to be a "nerd", which violates The Standard Code of Teenage Methods of Happiness, and is thought to be boring, which makes the idiots think that learning is bad and the source of boredom in ones' life.
And I keep forgetting what I'm going to type after any given line, so I'm going to shutup now.

Want to know why? Here's the reason:
Americans take everything for granted. Why are those foreign people getting A's? Because they know real life takes hard work and determination. American's think everything will go their way because they are Americans, thus better than other countries. Work drives this country, not the country itself; the result of this laziness will eventually show up.

A sidenote, but I don't think anyone who calls themselves smart, is smart. Sorry StarChris. ermm.gif

Luckily, I didn't say I was smart....I just said I wasn't an idiot =P.

Anyway, as for the whole "making a change," I'd have to agree, except that there are few people out there that can make a change that seem to actually care. I'd try and do something about it but I'm not even in high school yet...last month of 8th grade, gonna graduate soon. =P

Here's an example for those who don't know what I'm talking about:
Person A is really clever in his class.
Other students aren't really clever so they leave it all up to Person A. Thus, they get dumber. closedeyes.gif

CheeZe is pretty darn accurate. For a few decades (post WWII) we were the height of the world - economically, scientifically, educationally. People took that for granted, and eventually they stopped having the drive to try their best.

Now, we're falling behind. The economy is the easiest one of the three to correct, and that can be done (if planned correctly) in but a few years. We still have enough power to turn ourselves around. The science would be the hardest. First, we would need to correct the education aspect of our nation, which right now (to put it bluntly) sucks. For example, this past year my school said it would pay for as many AP courses online as I wanted to take. All of a sudden they say they'll pay for one, and one only. I am considered gifted, and I would probably be the head of my class if I did my work (right now I'm in the upper 10%), and it infuriates me that they won't pay to further my education. Science would come last, after we're back in the education race. It's not that people feel like they're going to fail (I mean, that's not a recent problem) - it's just that people don't care. However, recently I've felt that America has become a more competitive place (at least in the nation itself). I think our best chance lies in higher education, where people actually care about learning.

I think it's our American Pop Culture which is downgrading us...

Well of course everyone is horny... all the parents are against their kids having sex and releasing sexual tension. That's probably also why rape has increased over the years.

Its a vicious cycle, stupididity is born of pop culture, and pop culture feeds on stupidity, thus growing and creating more stuipidity.
A good example would be that at my brothers old school, the high school students were asked to read a book, it was about Ernest Shackleton (Guy who went to the south pole, expedition failed, he and his men all escaped unscathed without their ship, which had been crushed by ice floes), these high school students complained throughout about how challenging the book was, at the time I was ten, I had read and fully comprehended the book, it hadn't even really been challenging, I take it you see the issue.
Our education system is shot to hell, its not just that the students don't want to learn, its that the school teaches them not to learn, it fosters a society of ignorance.

Bitter Sarcasm, love. It is not any unknown fact that most of the international popularity hates Bush, and you'd be suprised how many of them think he's a direct representation of all Americans. I'm not saying whether what Bush is doing is right or wrong, basically because this is the wrong thread.
