I think Yoshi's v5 plan that he described in the shoutbox is great. For those who missed it:

QUOTE(That "Yoshi" guy)

We're planning something for v5 that will allow you to swear some minor words casually. There will be 3 stages of it.

Stage 1, is reset to every week lets say, and you can use minor swear words. Major are filtered. When you use any of these, a counter is increased.

Stage 2, minor and major are both filtered. Counter is increased still.

Stage 3, you will not be able to post content. It will return an error telling you to fix swear words. You have to wait until next week to get it removed.

Members who swear occasionally are able to do so, but members that are constantly flaming will be penalized. Sounds good. smile.gif

QUOTE(Yoshi da Sniper @ Jul 21 2005, 09:11 PM)
Finally, you guys are starting to see reason and why I did this. Just think of a replacement phrase that sounds less threatening but gets your point accross.

"You make me angry"
"I don't want you doing that"
"I wish that you would change your additude"

See? Its not hard.

Personally, I would listen to someone who said the stuff I listed above. Theres no need for people to be so aggressive here. Its a map making forum. Period.

Don't you have a say in this whole filter business? You yourself were dodging it in your 'Call for New [forum icons]' post! I can understand filtering certain things, but...

Haha...

You can now say: queer, ass, asses, homosexual, gay, retard, crap...
S*** goes back to :poo:.
I forget anything else I might have done...
b**** and f*** will never be uncensored, even though I use those words... it's just too explicit.

Don't make me regret this... otherwise, I shall smite thee. In otherwords, don't overuse and don't flame with your new abilities, because I shall dish out suspensions or bans to hide the fact I made a mistake uncensoring things for the 90% of sen member's who are complaining about it.

Edit... is there a :poo: anymore? hmmmmm...

Edit 2: Okay... where the censored.gif is the :poo: emotion...?

I'm just a litle outraged because I don't believe taking one's freedom of speech away, is a good way to make a site "Professional"

honestly. if we cant say what we want, it is a violation of out freedom of speach........THIS BLOWS!!!!!!

I hate to break it to you but you DON'T have freedom of speech here. SEN is not restricted to America and even if it was censoring curse words does not fall under freedom of speech.

The freedom that the American Amendment Guarantees us is the right to voice our opinion about issues that may be against authority or a unpopular idea (such as "Yoshi I believe you swear filters are too obsessive".) Curse words are not needed to say this. Think of public schools where students are not allowed to curse or in a public place if a person is cursing at the top of there lungs non stop they are bound to be approached by a police officer. These people are not voicing there opinion they are disturbing others right to live peacefully.

Before you argue your point be sure to think about what your saying.

You know thats breaking a rule, by replacing one letter its avoiding the filter, and people know what you're saying there anyway.

What about this:

*swear filter evaded, warn level up*

What about this:

" Censored  "

Is that also considered against the rules?

I mean, obviously if someone uses that to offend someone than it's wrong, but let's say someone wants to say something like (random example phrase): "Yesterday a hacker dropped me from a game and that felt like crap", wouldn't it be ok using the word 'crap' which is originally being censured? After all, it's not offending anyone and it's not even used as a swear.

I'd advise you to erase that before you get a warning....

About Yoshis plan for swearing in v5- Perhaps words that are quoted shouldnt count. After all, when im quoting someone cursing, is that morally wrong. People who use this to dodge the system should be warned. The real downside to this idea is that it is abusable.

Can you PM me a list of the words that are censored?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2005-07-22 at 21:55:44
Some say cuss words themselves aren't bad; it is just the way they are used or the whole context that makes them bad words.

You guys have really lost it over this swearing thing havn't you? I mean Starcraft players are here, they most likely play on b.net, and I think that over 90% of the players swear...Now dont get me wrong the filters good, but you guys over-react to too many words that wern't swears...

Why do we need to speak horrible anyway? Let's just try to keep calm when you want to swear.

i agrree this is a mapmaking forum not a swaring forum.
