Old Abe, becuase he was republican and freed the slaves.  George Washington was tight too, you know a british soldier had the chance to take out George during the revolutionary war but decided not to take the shot!??!?

I assume you're a republican right? You do know that the republicans back then, are the democrats today. (They switched) So, you're a republican that likes abe BECAUSE he's a republican from the 1860's. Gotchas. (You think right wing republicans would let slaves be freed? Have you heard of the 60's and early 70's? And that was when we weren't really racist at all, compared to the civil war days)

Also, the war was NOT, and I do repeat, NOT fought mainly over slavery. Common misconception. I'm amazed on how many people don't know that.

The real reason why abe was a great president, was because he help keep those igorant redneck democrats from winning the war. Any historian today, (Except the ones that worship the rebel flag) will tell you there is a very high chance if the south would've won the civil war, our country would not be here today. We would've never made it through WWI. Think about it, power to the states? Can you say; War Between States?

Despite the continuing Southern influence that it wasn't, the war was in fact, albeit unofficially, about slavery. Slavery was the main issue that resulted in the secession of the Confederacy. Whatever the ignorant Alabamans claim.

I have no single favorite president, but I think a few presidents stand out.

He's just an OK president, there's tons much better and equally as good as him.

Jefferson was a hypocrite. Washington/Lincoln. Washington... I don't really know much about him. He seems to be more legend then fact.

Washington a legend??? Wtf? FYI he was the leader of the continental Army and led the American colonies to freedom from the british tyranny. He became first president after that.

I agree. He was the best president because he was trying to get the money back into the peoples hands, instead of keeping it in the Federal Reserve (And he died by doing so cry.gif)

Uh.... That was ONE issue of the war. They receded from us because of that but that is not the reason the war was fought....

Slavery was, unofficially, the main issue. Of course there were others. Lincoln never stated anything about slavery until the end of the war because he was desparately trying to stop the border states (MO,TN,MD) from seceding too.

We wouldn't be republicans today if we didn't share the main ideas of the ones of the past morons.

I think he was refering to us as morons, not to the people of the past.
Addition: As people said earlier, the two parties essentially switched names at some point in history.

The main idea of Republican is to keep the country as a Republic. Tell me, how in the hell do democrats appose that idea now a days? Do you see democrats waving rebels flags everywhere? Hmmm, well I don't see no rebel flags outside my window. (Oh wait. My bad, we got rupublican neighbors with a rebel flag on their truck. Heh, republican rebels, that's funny right there. I don't care who you are. That's funny)

I'm pretty sure he would go to democrat. Cause I think he likes the north more. Because he kinda got killed by some one from the south, and because he kinda I don't know, did an entire war against the south whom are now republican. Call me crazy.

I dont think either side (democrats or republicans) are better than the other. Both have their ups and downs but both sides are needed in order to make our country be what it is.

Ya, if you ask me, I don't really like both of them. (Only reason I would favor demos over repubs right now, is cause of old white conservative males) Infact, don't label yourself to a political party. They only create biased opinions and stupid differences. Do what you think is right, don't do what a political party tells you. And if you don't know much about politics, then don't vote. Let the people that know about politics vote, other wise you will cancel out their opinion with your highly uneducated one. And just cause you don't know much about politics, doesn't make you stupid at all. Just says you don't really give a :poo: about politics, just like half the world does. That's it.

Let me guess, the repubs of back then supported the upper class, and so you figure that he would join repubs today, cause he supports the upper class? If that's reason, that could make sense. You could've used that much earlier. If that's not it, please, shine some light onto this topic.

Just to clear up that abe lincoln was a republican.
One major difference between nowadays republicans and democrats was around the late 1800's the political stances flipped. Lincoln would have more democratic veiws today than republican. I believe it was because of the bull moose party or whatever.

It was Kennedy, the 1960's, and the Civil Rights Act. Nothing to do with Teddy Roosevelt.

Jefferson was very intelligent, but in my opinion he could have made better decisions. Many of his presidential endeavors failed.

I'll give one semi-good comment to Bush. If he were crazy like Hitler, what do you think would happen to the majority of Americans, or the non-Caucasians? Think of all the gas chambers needed for over a hundred million people closedeyes.gif

Yes, that is a racist comment, I suppose, but either you're too stupid to realize that it was aimed at making fun of most conservatives' racism and thus undeserving of that Report button, or you're smart enough to realize what it was and won't press it.

Woohoo. Our best president was Lincoln. He got this country back together through the worst war it has ever encountered (although dying shortly afterwards), and although it was more propaganda than anything, he managed to free the slaves. He did a bunch of other things, but I'm too tired to list them.

Uhh... what country are you living in because last time I checked the president or anyone else in the United States can't start mass killing people with gas chambers....

Greatest president: George Washington

He has incredible leadership skills, and people were ready to follow him anywhere he want to take them. Also, he set the standard for only having a max of 2 terms as the president. The interesting thing was, it wasn't a law that said you couldn't be president more than twice, it was just because he said that there's no reason to have a president stay for more than two terms because we don't need a king. Then, everyone followed his example, except Franklin Roosevelt(sp?) who stayed for 3 or 4 terms I believe. But later in, I think, the 50's the constitution was amended and now no one is allowed to be president for more than 2 terms.
