nope, but that interests me and I think I will go and read it.  Thank you for that.

Now, have you ever read They Just Don't Get It by David Hunt (Army ret.)?? Its a good read and explains exactly whats going on in the middle east and how good/bad it is over there.

From what I've seen from descriptions, They Just Don't Get It is about winning the war. The Things They Carried is about a more general topic: war itself. One of the best I've ever read, too bad I have to finish a report on it for school now.

Ya, it explains all the bad things we are doing and the stupid pointless things we are doing and how we can fix it.

QUOTE
The U.S. should withdraw from Iraq regardless of the current Iraqi government's stability, because its presence itself endangers that stability.
One of the reasons the U.S. is not withdrawing is that Bush does not want to lose face and listen to "I told you so"s, and in the current situation it would also seem like the Al-Qaeda video made us fearful.

*BUZZER* wrong! *BUZZER* We aren't leaving for the simple fact that if we left now, it will show the world that America CAN be defeated using simple tactics. Simple scare tactics such as beheading and roadside bombs scaring the Americans into submission. That would send a message to EVERY enemy of America to bring the bombs to our doorsteps.

Do you mean "We aren't leaving- because of the simple fact..." or "We are not- leaving due to the simple fact..."

We aren't leaving becuase America would look weak (Somalia all over again). The country it self doesn't have enough government facilities to protect and serve itself. And many more things.

No, you could interpret it differently depending on how you look at it, so I don't really know what you said.

Wow I really see how you can interpret that differently, please elaborate on how those two meanings are different. They are saying the same exact thing. When I read it from both sides it doesn't make his point any less clear. closedeyes.gif

The first:

We are not leaving. This is because America would look weak.

The second:

We are not leaving because of the claim that America would look weak.

... that really doesn't make any difference as to what he's saying. They still mean the same thing. BOTH are statements that state the same thing. And you can't put "claim" in one of them and not in the other.

You still haven't shown how it affects what he says.

To keep this thread at a level of violence less than that in Iraq right now, I ask everyone to please avoid using caps and exclamation marks at all cost.

You should also add please avoid excessive stupidity and nonsense.

Wait, I quoted Chris, but it was Euro who had the original quote, "We aren't leaving for the simple fact that if we left now, it will show the world that America CAN be defeated using simple tactics. Simple scare tactics such as beheading and roadside bombs scaring the Americans into submission. That would send a message to EVERY enemy of America to bring the bombs to our doorsteps."

I don't know if he's agreeing or disagreeing with the statement from one of my posts: "One of the reasons the U.S. is not withdrawing is that Bush does not want to lose face and listen to I told you so's, and in the current situation it would also seem like the Al-Qaeda video made us fearful." It'd all depend on how he used the word "for", colored red. A yes/no response is enough to clear that up.
