People need to believe in stuff. The end.

I used to think this, but now I KNOW this. Cause my mom reads an astrology book on what she should do, and what day would be good day for something, and what day she should just stay indoors, and a whole bunch of other stupid ass things that some guy made. And no matter how off the book is, she'll rationalize it. She doesn't want the book to be wrong. I don't think I have the heart to tell my own mother that astrology is pure bull blam. It's like telling your kids that santa isn't really, except a lot worse, because if santa isn't real, those kids will still get their presents. But for the other ones, you'll get something until you realize you're getting nothing. And we all know everyone wants something over nothing.

I have a puzzle for those who are studying intelligent design:

What do you think of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

Such a preposterous question, I know. But it demands an answer.

I think it's funny tongue.gif.

You're probably thinking that this would show an error, but why does it matter of God's appearance? Maybe he DOES look like a giant speghetti monster. Who knows? (and like evolutionists were there during the beginning either happy.gif)

Oh, and I loved the pirate vs global warming thing. That was funny; I suppose he was trying to show Fundamentalist ad hoc? confused.gif

I believe you're missing the point. Perhaps reading why he wrote the letter would help you understand it.

Well, I actually agree with atheists. There is really not much proof supporting Christianity, but it was meant to be that way. There is just enough evidence so we can choose for ourselves if we want to go with Christianity or no religion. More proof would be knowledge and everybody would go to heaven, then the point would be gone.

People believe in God to feel safe.

And is that wrong? Is living without the constant fear of death wrong? Why is believing that somebody loves you and cares for you and watches over you wrong?

So you're saying god's great system of finding out who deserves to be in heaven, and who does not deserve to be in heaven, goes by wether they believe in him or not? No higher power would use such a retarded system.

God: Did you believe in me?
Hitler: Yes.
God: Did you repent?
Hitler: Yes
God: You may enter.

God would be a lot more like this.

God: Did you believe in me?
Hitler: Yes.
God: Did you repent right before you died?
Hitler: Yes, Can I come inside now?
God: Hey, do I look naive to you? Just cause you believed in me and supposedly repented doesn't mean you can come in. Just cause a crimal believes in the law and has said he's sorry, doesn't mean he's free of all charges.
Hitler: so that means.....?
God: You're gonna go burn in hell for all the crimes you have done.

Maybe some people believe in God because they feel they have to blink.gif

Believing in God or some supernatural entity is a good bet. Let us take this example:

Let's imagine there is a 50-50 chance that God exists. Let us then imagine that if you are a believer and there is no god, you fade into nothing when you die, a value of zero. And if you're a faithful believer and there IS a god, you go to heaven, the best possible thing, a value of infinity.

1/2 chance fade into nothing(zero) = Zero
1/2 chance go to heaven(infinity) = Infinity
--------------------------------------------
Expectation from being believer : Infinity

If you're athiest:

1/2 chance fade into nothing(zero) = Zero
1/2 chance go to hell(negative infinity) = Negative Infinity (As bad as possible, eh?)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Expectation from being athiest: negative infinity

Even if there is a 1/1000 chance that god exists, believing in god is a good bet because the expectation from believing in god would still be infinity, since 1/1000 of infinity is still infinity.

Yeah, nothing like good old Pascal's Wager.

But then again, what if this is all just a test and the logical ones are going to heaven while the believers are sent to hell? ermm.gif

Or what if there isn't either a heaven or a hell?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Neiji on 2005-08-17 at 10:05:57
Let me explain hell to you. God respects you. God respects your decisions. So, if you dont wanna believe in God, then he respects that. You can be in infinite separation from God (hell). But, it's not all good. You can never be happy, because all you can do is regret rejectin the ultimate good.

No, his system is creating human lives and they can do whatever they want with their lives that they can do. But, he thinks that someone who can do something else with their lives, but they wish to believe in him is the way to get into heaven.

So, you're saying luck is the ultimate answer?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2005-08-17 at 10:27:09
Yeah. smile.gif

Besides, "good" is a point of view; how do you know god is good?

I've asked it so many times, no one has ever done it but...

Can you define good without using point of view?

You can't, so you can't say god is good without using point of view. The problem being, if you use point of view, you're simply stating opinion.

Luck is in-fact, the ultimate answer, because it cannot be proven that God does exist, nor can it be proven that god does not exist. However, as proven in my post, believing in him is a good bet!

1. What happens to the agnostics (Open-minded about whether god exists or not), casual religious people (they dont pray every day. They believe in god, thats about it) and the devout religious people that are evil (hitler etc)

2. Also, Neiji, I have a question for you. What happens to non-christian god-fearing muslims and jews?

That is what debating is for, my friend.

Both of my parents went to church, they are christians, but they always worked on Sundays and never took me to church, so I really think all the religion is bullcrap.

The only reason you don't wanna believe in christianity is the one word omnipotent. But why do you set the line on what is impossible and what is not?

Christianity? WHY CHRISTIANITY, HUH? WHY NOT ISLAM OR JUDAISM?

Neiji, I find your attempts to convert people disheartening.
