The most annoying thing is the people who capitalize every single word, because they're actually trying to be intellectual.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Syphon on 2005-10-22 at 01:09:18
Why not just make censors on many common sland words that corrects them? Umm... Actually that project might be too big for a mini moose and one little isolated purity.

Yeah, lots of annoying people do that, they think they are so smart and everyone will think it looks intellectual, but it really is worse then with bad grammar. I think people like Oo Agent oO and some others do it..

Didn't Yoshi say there was going to be a script in SEN v5 that wouldn't let you post if you had too many capital letters in your post?

That Might Stop People From Doing This.

Just to elaborate, I don't think this rule should be enforced within quote boxes or in the Null forum.

Why? Null isn't always intellignet, and doesn't have to be. Quotes could be showing what someone else is saying, so editing them would be a forced misquote.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathawk on 2005-10-22 at 17:56:09
You wouldn't be able to quote them if they aren't able to say it in the first place.

I say it should be proper grammer spelling. No internet slang period. This is a forum, not a chat room.

This is a forum, not literacy class.

Idiots who are complete idiots are just funny.

There is more than one type of idiot.
Some are ignorant, some are illiterate.

I agree with the spelling thing it is hard to read sometimes when its all 1337 talk. Some people are like me and cant understand it when people type it so we couldnt give help if we knew the answer because we cant read it.

I think the problems are mainly in grammar and tone, rather than in spelling, punctuation or capitalisation.

- its easy to read things lyk this and n oone realli cares if you make a minor speling error.

- Dat sed, dense l33tsp34k is relly ann0yinG 2 reed, even if spelling errorz Rnt.

- However, some people can spell properly just have no sense in grammar think.

These last two are the more annoying ones, and are much harder to understand. However, at least some of these people are probably from non-English speaking backgrounds, and I think we should be tolerant of those people to a reasonable extent.

But the main problems don't seem to be even in grammar. Rather, the bigger problem, next to the actual content of the post, seems to me to be the tone in which things are said.

- Oftentimes, it is those "pseudo-intellectuals" that Devilesk refers to with such contempt that are the greatest propagators of this particular dilemma.

But I think that the biggest problem is simply the content of the post. Continued and deliberate flaming or spamming is unacceptable. But in addition, some kind of 'quality control' measure on some or all of the forums should be implemented to prevent the creation of topics that are very likely to create spam or flames.

For example, I think it would be a good idea to make it part of forums guidelines or rules not to allow the creation of "Christianity versus the rest of the world" topics, or to allow other topics to degenerate into a similar argument - I say this not because I think that it is not possible to have an intelligent discussion about it, but because it is such a sensitive issue to so many people that it is too likely to cause an outbreak in flaming. It is better to miss out on the little valuable discussion that could be had than to have too many tempers go through the roof, which also damages the image of SEN.

Actually, I don't really know what the main source of annoyance is, and I think that the purpose of this topic probably is only to address a few specific problems.

I think an effective way of dealing with most of these would be for self-respecting members to simply ignore any posts which don't add to the discussion - since replying to spam only stimulates more spam.

It's fun to own pseudo-intellectuals. It only gets annoying once you start to repeat yourself since they never understand or learn or admit or even see how they are wrong tongue.gif

Oh and pseudo-intellectual isn't my word wink.gif

By the definintion, the illiterate ones are the ignorant ones too.

I think it should be, I hate ti when the go in all ig and bad, you won them then they just repeat the same arguement and say "HA!1! That proevs iat!eleventyone!1"

Or something like that.

Some members could use a bit of an upgrade on their grammar, spelling, and sentance structure.

No, it can change if the mods enforce a rule like that.

And no, I don't want to have to interpret every retarded thing some idiot types up.

Yeah, I can understand what you say when you type like that, but that doesn't mean anything.

Someone comes up to you and asks "Can you give time me to?". You know they're asking for the time, but you're thinking "what a dumb:censored:".

I love the way you appropriately named the title moose tongue.gif

I dont really think that there is a load of leet speak on SEN anyway, i think ive seen about 2 people who ligitamately speak in that barely understandeable manner, but everyone else talks like we are now in this thread. The odd joke about that is ok.. but its kind of getting old..
