I agree that probably SEN needs a new active DLDB person. We need someone who is like Beer_Keg was; Young with lots of free time tongue.gif .

I do not think that SEN needs more moderators (Sadly. I would have loved that job sad.gif ).

I could code under pressure but one active administrator is plenty tongue.gif

We are only suffering from a loss of DLDB keepers, and little else.

I bet he's flattered. Oh, and RexyRex can script in PHP as well, or at least has some knowledge of PHP (She's reading this as well).

I have some knowledge of PHP and I'm learning, but it will be a while before I will be able to help IP in any way in that area.

We have more than enough Forum Moderators to deal with. 2 Global Mods + 2 Admins + About 3 Mods per forums is more than enough to moderate them.

The problem with DLDB Keepers is that most of us had unfortunate happenings during the past few weeks. We can't always be on all of the time and performance will have it's ups and downs. When I had the DLDB to myself back in late 2004 maps got approved in a matter of hours, but that is because I had the facility to do so, which I no longer have.
We are humans and problems are bound to happen.

No new administrators are needed or to my knowledge, is any of the current Staff qualified to do so. What makes Administrators different is that they code the site and have access to the Admin CP. The only need or promotion of Staff to Admin is that that member knows PHP, and as far as I know, only I know PHP and I still say it's too little PHP Knowledge to be Admin. THe other person I think could be promoted is DTBK, but I don't think he knows PHP, his language is Python.

We have enough Tutorial Keepers, no questions about that.

What I think is the problem, is that you are generalizing the whole Staff to what has been happening to the DLDB lately and you don't but into the formula that we can't all be active all of the time and that it is possible for most of us to be incapable to do so.

This problem of DLDB keepers having trouble could be solved by having more, this would give grace to the members that can't currently take in maps, and it would run smooth.

I thought it wasn't going downhill? bleh.gif (According to you in PM)

But I agree.

Moose, you should ask the opinion of the Mods, on who should be a new mod if you decide for more Mods.

And for DLDB, you should have members of this site that have been into StarCraft longer than 3 years.  In my oppinion, they know how to see a quality map when there is one.

And as you might remember, Syphon, by looking at the Staff Page:
QUOTE
Many people would like a placement as staff at Staredit Network. Unfortunately, we try to limit our staff to prevent unnecessary use of resources and conflicts. However, it doesn't mean we will not be looking for staff placements in the future. Although we are NOT currently hiring any moderators or staff members by request (we still may ask people), these are some of the things we'll be looking for in the future if we do start hiring:

  1. Be a respectable member of this community. This means, you are generally known by most members and you contribute from time to time. We aren't asking that you be hardcore and spend your life here, but a few minutes in our forums a day doesn't hurt.
  2. Have some 'Use Map Settings' map making knowledge. This will help you greatly because we are a 'Use Map Settings' map making website!
  3. Personality counts! Don't be a complete jerk or idiot during your stay. You won't even be considered.
  4. (Optional) PHP Knowledge. This isn't a requirement, because its a big programming language, but little PHP knowledge could help your way big into the ranks.
  5. Willing to assist. You help other people to the best of your ability.
  6. Commitment. You must be willing to commit yourself to this website.

Don't think we need to tell everyone we're looking for a staff member. We may take exceptional individuals from the community and ask them if they want a staff placement without making any announcements.

About being Admin and knowing PHP.

As RexyRex said, you can know all the PHP in the world, but we won't promote you unless you have had a prior position at SeN. The only exception has been IP which took the site after Yoshi left in October 2005 and started paying for it.

We have been discussing the issue and we are trying to choose a new DLDB Keeper. We will send you a PM if you have been chosen. Staff Forum owns!

I would have to say that the Administrator requirements that Medea has posted is updated, things have changed.

During the old days, an Administrator was the person who coded, fixed and managed the community of the site. Now the Administrator's obligations are to code and fix the site. Managing the comunity is up to the Staff but with the Admin's consent of major issues.

IP said in a post a few weeks ago that he would give me Admin position if I just asked him. I said I wouldn't ask for it now because I don't know PHP for the purpose that I said above. What good will having Admin powers be if I can't code? All I can do in the Admin CP is the same as I can do know with the exception of Permanent Bans, IP Bans, create new forums and a few other meaningless things. Coding is everything.

Coding is everything? No offense or anything meant (I'm really just curious), but does Minimoose code in PHP as well?

Now I know what I need to do to become admin shifty.gif.

Oh, and won't it be a bit difficult for two people to alternate scripting? They can set identical variables up using the $_SESSION (making it completely global within whole script), that could mess things up.

HarHar! Not now, just let me finish up. The main reason is that I don't want to have a tag for doing nothing. I want to atleast make a simple game like Moose has been doing or simple fixes.

Right now, Moose codes everything regarding SeNv4, be it fixing it or making new games. IP does SeNv5 and will come code parts of SeNv4 if it's quite serious and Moose can't do it(which I doubt).
