I see my vague english has caused people to misunderstand my true meaning. Ok.. Here is why I came up with this idea of American (not white) pride. I see my friends like every other time and overheard them talking about the current war in Iraq. As a strict liberal that I am, I thought I might as well join in in the conversation and give them my opinion on the matter. So they were talking about how American soldiers took captives and flushed Qu'rans down the toilet, which I found very offensive. But, they, as Americans, thought otherwise saying that it was the middle eastern people's fault of bombing the US on the first place. I disagreed saying that it was Americans' greed that caused the middle eastern conflict, not anarchy in middle east. Then I thought, "can they be blinded by the American pride?" I mean as American pride as loving America as to believing the only Americans can do the right thing. Can this result to great patriotic nation, or are we just living with stupid, blind Americans?

Much of the animosity directed towards the U.S. in that region has a direct relation to our government's staunch support of the Israelis for the past 40+ years. A large number of Muslims (some Iranians in particular, being spurred on by their president) and Palestinians are rabidly anti-Israel, so anti-U.S. sentiments should be of little surprise given our longtime backing of Israel.

Afghanistan was the result of a massive attack on America. You might have heard of, we call it 9/11. I'll believe that Iraq was for you oil as soon as you can prove it. If we wanted oil, we would have drilled in our own country. It would be much easier fighting hippies to get oil than it would have been to fight terrorists.

Once upon a time, America was special. We pioneered individual rights and freedoms, and were a place of thinking and mainly freedom. This is no longer. Zealous politians have gained control, destroying our international relationships, our environment, and our freedom.
Yes, I live in America (San Francisco as the member map says). Is it my choice right now to leave the country right now? No. Will I later? Maybe.

Every developed nation has pride of some sort. The American pride is just more on the media in a negative aspect. Most of it is due to early education, such as elementary schools. The teachers would have children sing songs about how America is such a great place and saying it had more rights than any other country. Of course, not every single elementary school teacher does/did this. But the biggest thing besides early influence, is the lack of education of the rights of other countries. I don't find pride and ego bad, I actually find it quite humorous; however, I do think it's wrong to try to intimidate or subsidize another with that pride.

A place where no one wanted to really be better than another... but then that would create problems of it's own.

Personally, I'd like to argue that Asians are more prideful. Islam extremists are more immature, and the rest of the world can go screw itself if they have a problem with my pride. Pride is not harmful, not on the scale you are talking about. I will not lie, I have a very big ego, and just recently I have figured out that I am more conservative than I previously let on to be. What it comes down to is I need my pride in my work in order to make it in this world.
I want to break into a very competitive field, one of the only fields where getting paid on a regular basis doesn't matter unless you join special equity groups, and even then, there are gigs where you don't get paid. If I have no pride in what I'm doing, if I can't get up infront of people and preach how farking amazing I am (even if the sample sucks) then I can kiss my career good bye. Hell, if we let 9/11 just slide, we'd be chumps...like France, who just lets people invade as they step out of the way.

Okay, we invaded Afghanistan to attempt to bring down Osama Bin Laden. I have no qualms about that. But then why do we just let Osama go and invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11? That doesn't sound much like "following all the way through".
