My theory is that Scm reads a melee map while it is loaded. This doesnt happen in ums because of the briefing screen. The nuke plays a sound. Im sure that the maker of that map had no clue it even did that until he tested it. He just wanted to make his map look cool when you played it therfor he placed some sprites. So, that would mean that sc sprite sounds. People dont normally place sprites like this in melee maps so its not strange that we havent heard of this until now.

So the sprites that may play sounds at all and dont crash might work.
If i had a list of sprites that crashed I would test them, but i dont feel like crashing as my computer takes forever from each crash.

Maybe but than wouldnt it still make the sprite in the briefing this just doesnt add up to me right?

Eatherway this is pretty cool for melee maps that it does that

Ill look at the sounds and see if any more work

ADDITION:
Ok after about 10 minutes of doing it I realized something that works as far as I have tested

Open up scmd and go into the sprites and when they make noises apon placement or movement than they should make a noise in game

This works with actual Unit weapons and stuff too

I tried to do it with 2 Sprites and it only work with the 1st one used

It looks like SI might have already known about this

SI just made it so SCMDraft plays the sound of whatever you have placed (if it is enabled).

And of course the map is loaded in Melee maps in the lobby, where do you think the Map Preview comes from? Magical fairy dust?

And UMS maps are loaded in the loading screen. Since they run scripts for sounds in that screen it wouldnt allow the sprite to play. So this is a very cool effect for melee mappers.

Well I never knew that so it was worth it for me to waste like 10 minutes on it

So did Si know about this or was it just some luck that what I did worked?

Probably luck. SI added the sound thing probably just for effect.

I wrote a tutorial on this and submitted it.

Just rememberd this while reading the rest of this topic, but a long time ago there where two or three maps (I'm pretty sure they where UMS, very sure they where UMS, if not they would have been fastest since that is all I played back then) that played the lurker sound (comes to life or it might have been die...but it was one of those), this was before map preveiw and around the time the first square maps came out (you still had to do em with that stupid ISOM thing which I hated), wasen't into much map making back then so don't know if at that time you could place sprites or not.

and I don't have the map anymore becuase I've had to reformat, many times, since then.

He probably didn't (and still doesn't) know about the sound in lobby thing, but the reason this works in SCMD2 is because it uses basically all of the data that SC uses (SI tried to make SCMD2 as compatible with SC as he could).

He just made whatever sounds that corresponded to a unit/sprite's entry in the .mpq files (i.e. iscript.bin, sprites.dat, etc.) That's why some work and some don't (just like in SC).

If ums they had to have been played in the load. And if fastest it could have been a lurker death sprite. I wrote a tutorial on this and submitted it but it hasnt been put up. I wonder why? It was probably early release of scmd 1 or sf 1.

Well I suppose that solves the question about it but still why did blizzard let this go by. Do they not know about it? I saw it like a year ago so its gone by a few patches
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-03-01 at 20:47:34
I dont think blizzard really cares anymore. They want people from starcraft to buy there other games currently. SC is basically dieing out because of the unsupportedness.

ok now not sayign i can do anything but im a game programer, i can deprotect almost any map. perhaps i can help?(ive never heard of any of this stuff before now)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Dark_lunatic_K on 2006-03-01 at 23:02:23
Unprotecting won't help at all, what we need to know is what's so special about the sprites that causes their unit to play their sound during Lobby. Plus lobby music is a gay idea all in all, it'll piss people off during long DL hours. sad.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by sharf on 2006-03-02 at 13:07:02
ok fien i can deprotect it and i can check the entire coding of it, i know a form of modding that cant be patched i can reprogram sc so i can figure it out if you want. but if you dont w/e
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-03-02 at 23:11:05
Lol i doubt either of u can live up to what you say. Besidedest his has been SOVLED. You cant play music in lobby just sounds that make it intresting. The sprites play sounds because they play sounds. Since this is loaded in the lobby it plays there because of another sc bug. There is no CODING its a melee map and cant run triggers. You guys should probably read the topic before you post here. LOCKED!
