Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Sounds in lobby
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-02-20 at 04:02:53
I've heard that you can have sound in lobby before. And now I have proof. How can I do it as it would be a really sick thing to do. And what is the method behind it?

No spam pls.

I don't think its possible because ppl are stil dling the map.

It's possible. I have proof too. I'll attach it. I hear the nukes and then when the game starts the nukes come down and explodes on the mineral and geysers (in a melee game!).

But the weird thing is, I only hear the nuke sounds during a melee game and not a UMS game.

Open up the map and see which sprites were placed. I think that has something to do with it.

So we dont know?

Wow a newb Fastest map has more in it than we know how to do sad.gif who made this?

I saw that, too, today.
In a clan recruitment map. The exact same thing.
A nuke came down and blew up. It was weird.

I guess it has something to do with the sprites/other stuff because in a melee map everything else is disabled. crazy.gif

Yeah it has something to do with sprites mostlikely because some sprites make noises in the begining of the game

The "nuke hit" sprite, maybe? It makes a sound when I place it in SCMDraft....

i did some research in it and i can confirm that no sprites made the sounds in the lobby.

the person who made the map probably used an hex editor and did it some how.

it would be great if we can get a few Programmers here to open up that fastest map and find it's secrets.

it would be really neat for a map to have custom sounds play in the lobby while they wait for the dlers.

exactly... so what exactly did it. And how can it be replicated and if so altered; and also simplified.

ADDITION:
Wheres DK when you need him. He knows this stuff.

Now I'm wondering if it's possible to place other sounds and not just nuke sounds or SC sounds. I'm wondering if we could put .wavs that don't belong in the game.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-02-22 at 02:13:16
Exactly. Or maybe other effects like lighting and stuff.

But we still don't know how this dude put the nuking sound into the lobby do we? And I'm not sure if it'll work in UMS because I tried it in UMS but no sounds came. Only in Melee. confused.gif

Could the creator have possibally placed a trigger to delete the nuke effects just to make the map even weirder

u tried every sprite there is?

Maybe im not grasping this correct does it make sounds in the loading room or right when the game starts?

can someone post this map I wanna see it

Yes my guess is the hex editor theory. That sprite was conveniately placed within view, which hints more to either 1. just for cool looks or 2. to distract from the real reason behind the sounds.

Hex-editing can't just magically make things happen. It probably has to do with sprites since that is pretty much all a Melee map has to keep.

my bad they where sprites look at this map i made. smile.gif[attachmentid=17542]

Place a Nuke sprite, just one, and it is done.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-02-22 at 20:03:10
so the nuke sprite plays in lobby? None of the others do?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IA-Sky on 2006-02-22 at 20:06:59
i tried some sprites and they didn't play a sound...

i haven't tried every single sprite.

My theory is that Scm reads a melee map while it is loaded. This doesnt happen in ums because of the briefing screen. The nuke plays a sound. Im sure that the maker of that map had no clue it even did that until he tested it. He just wanted to make his map look cool when you played it therfor he placed some sprites. So, that would mean that sc sprite sounds. People dont normally place sprites like this in melee maps so its not strange that we havent heard of this until now.

So the sprites that may play sounds at all and dont crash might work.
If i had a list of sprites that crashed I would test them, but i dont feel like crashing as my computer takes forever from each crash.
