Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> Games -> Nintendo Revolution's New Name:
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dumbducky on 2006-04-29 at 14:39:18
QUOTE(JordanN @ Apr 29 2006, 08:11 AM)
Well lets not get too off topic but when i first discovered the new name "wii' I though it was pronounced "why" but its not the name i was worried about it is the games for example. When you play starcraft ghost on the "wii" you can acually do a  sniper shoot or roll out of the way in real life. Now im wondering how are you suppose to play super mario bros 3 on such a hard to use controller that looks like a T.V REMOTE!

WTF does that have to do with them changing the name to Wii? First off, Ghost hasn't been announced on anything other than PS2 and Xbox. Second, we all already knew that. Looks like your a little behind on the news.

Dear Nintendo, you had a great idea with Revolution, but read: This is the American market. We don't go for vague sexual euphesisms with double "i"s

Dear Nintendo, listen to the wise people of SeN.

Whats the point of nintendo droping the game race. Besides without them ps1 wouldnt be here remember. Besides nintendo wont end till sony and microsoft does.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dumbducky on 2006-04-29 at 22:24:19
If microsoft and sony quit, nintendo gets a monopoly. Then, they have absolutely no reason to quit.

How old are you?

I don't really mind the name... and there is no point in Nintendo quiting because they basically have a monopoly in Japan. Also as Kellimus said,
QUOTE
"Wii is the same in every language. It's supposed to stand for We because the Japanese have no E. The double I makes the E pronunciation; Therefore, it's spelt: Wii"
It's basically pronouced we, and the reason for the double ii is to avoid conflict between languages, like the French word "Oui". But I do agree that Nintendo Revolution sounds better than the Nintendo Wii, but it doesn't really matter.

Now if you are still cussing and bitc[h]ing about the name, stop being a farking racist and let the japanese people do their own God dam[n] work.

P.S. The Japanese language does have an E but its pronounced like an A.

ADDITION:
This is Nintendo's explaination for the name Wii (If you haven't seen it before)

If you do not understand the meaning of this, then... well, figure it out!

I dislike the name Wii, I sent a email to Nintendo proposing the name "CbE" for the gaming console, but all they did is send me a email with a link to why they chose Wii. crybaby.gif

New names for "Wii"
The "Wiimote" (Remote controller)
"Wiinies" (Nintendo Wii fanboys, not fans, fanboys)
And other play of things like that "It's a wii-lly big secret" (Instead of really). And so on.
I love the internet.

Yeah Wii represents "We" as in the console for everyone. It's for gamers, eldery people, children, and other type of person out there. It's called W"ii" because apparently "ii" means good luck in Japanese, which is odd because Yoshi is japanese for Good Luck. I guess they just like using different words for the meaning of Good Luck. I get the idea of it, but the name still sucks. And that's also what the link was for.

I don't like the name on account that I'm not homosexual. Nintendo should've kept the Revolution title. Now don't give me this wikipedia stuff you just read up and re-wrote and don't give me this wikipedia link either.

I find that the Wii title despite its pronunciation as we and representation as two players playing "together (hence the we)", is the oddest move Nintendo could make! Look... Nintendo had made names that were family oriented (Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, N64, Game Cube, Visual Boy, etc...) Now wii... look at this fictional conversation:
QUOTE
Grown Man: Hey Dude! You gonna play with your Wii tonight?
Grown Man 2: Dude!! I'm inviting friends over to play with it!
Grown Man: Can I play with it too?

Damn it Nintendo! Why have you forsaken us?!

As much fun as it is to make fun of the name. You have to know what it's meant for and if it matters at all I'm already getting use to it.
The gamecube used to be called the Ultra 128 that sounds pretty cool, I'm guessing they didn't like Gamecube too much after having something like that. And they called it Wii becasue "ii" is good in japanese, and the two Is represent two people playing a Wii. That's not from Wikipedia either that's straight from the horse's mouth: Nintendo.

Thanks for the flame.
It was just a joke, Voyager said he would never buy one.  I said, what if they named it after him?

Explain to me, what is so hard to make multiple models of the Wii with the name Revolution in different languages?

And why is it that you're the only one complaining about the sexual references? The others just started complaining to join the bandwagon, so stfu about that. You're the only one complaining.

Why?

I'm the only one in the entire world?:
Read all the posts
Just read the title
Scroll to the bottom and read the comments
Just read the questions they ask
Although you won't watch it, wait until they review what the Offical Employees of Gamespot think
They're all making sexual refrences on how it's a bad name. You're not cool by singling me out, it's a bad name at first glance and everyone knows that. Reggie and Shigeru were probably asking "WTF??!" when they first heard it aswell.

Please specify by "you're the only one complaing". And you can't even prove that everyone "got on the bandwagon" to be cool. It's not like it's impossible to think that a name as dumb as "WII" is stupid. It's the first reaction to a lot of people. So they probably all thought it was dumb as well. And thanks for respodning to... anything. And even if you could somehow magically figure out if they were just trying to be cool or not. Then it'd be the only person on SEN, whcih still leaves millions of other people all wondering "wtf is a name like Wii?".
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2006-05-02 at 21:50:35
I dont really like it all that much either...

"Hey guys, you can all come over and play with my wii! It's ready for four people!"

But I don't hate it. As a matter of fact, I think it would be hilarious to actually have something called that/ 'play with it at night'
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HolySin on 2006-05-02 at 22:47:43
I don't see the harm in changing the name. Wii does sound sexual, but at least it's original and memorable. As Falcon_A pointed out, it would be pretty humorous to have a console in your house called wii.

Revolution still sounded cooler. I don't think many people are willing to sepnd ~$200 on a stupid joke that they can say only so many times.
