I think a trailer for any map is good, but not always the content. I.E. If its a humor map based off Halo and all you put is some stuff on Halo, then that's a waste of time, and will probably make people think that your map is a piece of crap. Now, say for instance, you have some new feature that no other map has, and many other things, and you want to show those, then sure thats a good thing to put into a trailer. I.E. A map based off C&C Renegade, you could show buildings getting Ion cannoned. Bad Exapmle, I know, well, maybe like a metamorphosis RPG type deal, where you can change to different forms at any time in the game, you could show that. Also, it needs to be kinda long, and descriptive. I.E. Tell what your maps about, or have some Prolouge to your RPG map. I agree with everyone that making a trailer for a map that you wont finish is bad, you get people all hyped up for nothing. Also, maybe maps like bounds and/or defense maps shouldn't have trailers, but if you could whip out some good trailer, then sure, go ahead and make it. Also, make sure you can do something before you go and say like, will include dropship system, when you don't have anywhere near enough units to do a dropship system. Well, that's my four cents.

Trailers are fun and cool to watch. But I dont bother making them, its a waste of time in which I could of been working on the real thing

Trailers are best used for either a long map/mission, or for a campaign.

Since Xeno is too lazy to make a parody trailer of a map in order to make fun of me, I'll do it myself:
This would be for an RPG about me, because I'm just that l33t and there needs to be more RPGs about me and trailers for those RPGs. PS: I'm Shmidley.
Scene 1
-Jaws scary intro music plays- (Buuuuum bum..... buuuum bum...)
"Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a Shmidley?"
"Of course not... but that's too bad, because we're making the map anyway"
Scene 2
Shmidley is walking down the halls of his school and says "Hi Guys"
Everyone runs away, and Shmidley is Sad
Then the ground begins to shake and Satan explodes forth from the Underworld!
Satan roars: "SHMIDLEY!!!! U WANT KILL PPLZ?"
Shmidley: "Hell Yea!"
Scene 3
"24 Level of Unstoppabel mayhem!"
-Shows Jeffery Dommer (Spelling?) imitation level, with Machine Gunner killing everyone-
Scene 4
"The most explosive game ever to grace StarCraft!"
-Parody of Yoshi's Matrix map with Shmidley as Firebat owning Agent Smiths-
Scene 5
"Not even the military can stop him!"
-Parody of Tux's army scene, then everything gets the
blown out of it and Shmidley by, cool, calm, and collected-
Scene 6
"Your final goal? Become President of the United States!"
-Bush comes out in a Gundam Warrior suit, Large battle ensues-
Scene 7
"Coming As Soon as Possible to a Battle.net Server Near you"
"...You should have been his friend..."
"Now you pay"
Hey this sounds like a good idea.
