As a child I've always known of my Australian background. When I reached the age of 10 I saw Steve Irwin for the first time, I really liked him. He was a kind of person that you acted on the screen like you "knew him" as like a friend or a relative and not a celeberity.
My dram since I was 10 years old was to meet Steve Irwin, shake his hand. Maybe get his autograph. This was almost realized when I went to Australia 2 years ago when I was 14, I was sourly disappointed to hear he wasnt at the Australian Zoo at the time.
I'm now 16 and am now 1 less dream away to achieveing my goal. I never thought something like this would ever happen.
To Steve Irwin(wherever you are..) : I always thought you were indistructable, how I wish that were true.

My Godfather had a pretty good thought on it. Something to the effect of "You know, you gotta think, that's not that bad of a way to die. He said "Ow", pulled it out, and died. It wasn't like he would've known."
Sounds better than slowly rotting away from a tumor. Now we just need some new guy to show those goddamn reptiles who's boss.

I thought almost the exact thing; except I thought the way he died was one of the manliest ways to die I have ever heard of. Its really sad, but damn that is one weird way to die.

Well i have seen only a few of his TV shows, and i wasn't a huge fan of him, but i really heard of him as the legendary Crocodile Hunter.. His death is really sad, he looked like a really nice person who loved nature. Rest in peace, Stewe Irwin :(

I was surprised to hear him die by a sting ray, I thought he was going to die by like getting attacked by a croc or something. I only saw his show a few times. If someone else can follow his footsteps.
RIP Steve Irwin

Yeah, I'd never heard of that, but I assumed it might be common. But I was wrong. Apparently, there have been only 17 stingray related deaths EVER ('ever' meaning since they started keeping track of the causes of death over the last couple of hundred years). That makes it one of the rarest deaths out there. You are more likely to win the lottery, or get struck by lightning than be killed by a stingray. Shoot, you're probably more likely to win the lottery AND get struck by lightning rather than being fatally stung by a stingray.

You're more likely to win the lightning while being struck by lottery and non-fatally stung than being fatally stung.

What's your source? If you dig around in that Steve Irwin article (or maybe an article connected to it), you'll see that it says there are only 17. That may or may not include Steve, but that means there can't be more than 18-20.

THE Crocodile Man, Steve Irwin, is dead. He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It appeared that he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest, Queensland Police Inspector Russell Rhodes said.
Freak accident?! The man spent 14 years of his career (and God knows how long before that) teasing deadly animals. You play with fire long enough, you'll get burned.
I just found the way they worded that kind of funny. Not to dishonour him or anything. His show was entertaining, and he was an entertaining person. If you're going to die, die doing what you love.
R.I.P.

Yeah the article I read said 18...and it was a freak accident considering that if you have read the article and how eye witnesses of the video and such say that he wasn't even messing with the huge Bullray but that the ray just turned around, swam to Steve real fast, and stabbed him...an accident by all means if you ask me!
