Steve Irwin, is dead! I never watched his show or anything but that is pretty depressing.
Renamed thread title to stop double topics. Seeing "GASP*" on the topic list isn't really going to make anyone realize a Steve Irwin thread is already there.-Moose

I'm not suprised... Sort of sad though

That's really unfortunate.

I used to watch his show years ago.
Wow... a sting-ray barb can be that dangerous? That's another reason why not to go swimming the oceans.
You guys have no clue how this effects me, he was like a childhood hero of mine..

It effects alot of people, it effects me alot because i met him as a child since i live in australia. He was australian icon he put us on map kinda showing our animals and stuff. He a hero to many people.
Sting ray hit him in chest, was a big one. Big sting-rays are deadly at close range if hit at chest. =/
I feel sorry for his wife and kids losing a loving father and husband.
Well damn, I lost that bet.

...but you know, if YOU were an animal person, and you had to pick a way to die, being Stingray'd don't sound too bad. There'd certainly be more painful ways to go, at least.
I'm sure his last words were:
Crickey!...yeah, I probably shouldn't make humor of it. Couldn't resist. He probably did still have a few good years left ahead of him, though. Kinda a shame, but not entirely unexpected.
Sad indeed. He made it quite interesting to watch the programs he led on TV. But I didn't like the way he talked, but oh well, I guess nobody is perfect.
Well, after years of fighting the animals, the animals won. A pity.

One of the few celebrity deaths in a long time that actually made me sad. I always liked his show and I watched it A TON when my son was 2 and 3 years old (he loved Animal Planet then). Considering what he does, most people say "Sooner or later he's gonna get killed by those animals", but that still doesn't prepare you for when it actually happens. At least he died doing what he loved.
I remember when my grandma was watching one of his shows and was saying that he was a crazy guy and he was going to die soon. That was probably around 5 years ago and now he has finally gone. Sad thing...
Think his wife will continue in the documentary and doing this kind of stuff?

Amen
I watched his show from time to time, too. Here's a comical way to look at it: Steve Irwin: The Stingray Hugger
It's sad that he died.. I thought the stingray death was wierd though. I thought it was going to be his face got mauled by a crocodile.
Nearly nobody dies from a stingray sting albiet they are extremely painful just not deadly, although in his case it punchured his heart...
RIP Crocodile hunter.
Yeah. Its very rare to get shocked RIGHT in the heart....If it shocked him in the leg, arm, then he probably wouldve been alright if they got em to the hospital.
The dealio was that Steve and his cameraman kinda boxed the stingray in, so it flexed its stinger in natural defense. Stingray stingers are poisonous, but they're very weak. Unfortunately for Steve it hit him in the heart, so what weak toxins were present kinda put him to cardiac arrest. Even if there were no toxins, getting a dagger to the heart still isn't something any human can live through.
I appreciate the man more for his conservationist actions. His nature shows are probably great too but I've never watched them. His personality seems great, even after the whole controversy of holding his son up right next to a crocodile. Other people criticized him for it but to me it seems pretty natural. He was, is, and always will be, the crocodile hunter.
I heard about this while on the phone talking to my aunt in wisconsin...
...He was the best person...Ima miss him... Yet another legend gone to dust.

We'll miss the man for his funny attempt of fedding a croc. Now while his children are going to grow up one of them could take up in his footsteps and become the Alligator Hunter!
But R.I.P Steve Irwin.
Man who dances with crocs.
