I'm pretty sure that's the patch right before Brood War came out or at the same time, they added all those in BW and patched them into SC because that way it's a lot easier to make scms from scx's.

That proves it IS POSSIBLE to add triggers to the editor. And thats not the only time they did it too. take a look in the "patch" notepad file in you're SC directory, then scroll the the bottem a slowly move you're way up. you can see numeris editor changes and trigger updates.
The triggs really need upgrading.
Can they even add more triggers etc? Didnt someone say something about how many of the things are built into the engine, so you cant change them? Arent these triggers built into the engine? This applys to things such as limits etc, not everything.
there should be a wizard mode and an updated mode of the current triggers system. another thing that sc2 need in staredit is the ability to change unit names based on players. for example player 1 & 2 both have a zergling but they have different names and attack damage. and dont say use heros, because they are always faster or in the case of tassadar, have different ttacks
I don't see why Blizzard can't do something like this:
Trigger Level:
Traditional Style(Old SC)
New Style (Old SC Triggers, With new SC2 triggers, new GUI)
Expert Style (All Triggers, New GUI, text based editor)
I would probably go text based, even though i'm not an expert. If Blizzard incorporated major script features like
If...Else and looping it could be great!
I would prefer programming a map like this:
Loop
If playerOneKillCount = 1
Add 10 Ore
Set playerOneKillCount = 0
End If
End Loop
Make a petition for new triggers?
yes I remember maps in the old pre 1.04 days.
You could hardly do anything.
the limits of the editor are what make it fun. if you could do anythign with a trigger then it wouldnt be as cool, but it would open it up a lot. I wish that SC had variables. for instance:
con
p1 kills X units
act
set minerals for current player to (2)X
that would be great
I wish sc had maths functions
I wish sc had variables
I wish sc had loops
I wish stats could be added/subtracked
I wish sc had a wc3 style unit editor
I wish sc was written in jass
I wrote some uber script for wc3...
custom units and variables i all i rly need.
Few things ive noticed from THIS thread...1: People Are Repeating what they are saying.
2: People Are Repeating IDEAS from other people (maybe they like, i dunno...)
3: I like this trigger system, they dont need anymore... Besides takes the freaking fun from the game, ESPECIALLY if you can CREATE your own triggers using a coding system like sumbody suggested "Def: THAT WOULD BE GAY!!!!" seriously, the limits are there for a good reason , modding can be done, multiplayer AND single players just dl arsenal 3, mpqdraft, and mmm im forgetting one but oh well there was a whole tutorial with all files and programs needed to mod starcraft, i made it so a marine is named GOD with regenerating hp flies, and can cloak :/ with also high dmg armor shield, and hp lol. and it works in melee, also he fired like 100x faster hehehe.4: SERIOUSLY IF YOU MADE IT SO EASY, DO YOU KNOW HOW EASY IT WOULD BECOME TO GET INTO CLAN U!?!?! i mean CRAP!! if any ol newb had a editer like THAT, then they can make the BEST UMS map EVER in a snap! GEEZ (well more like a week or so, but OF COURSE blizzard will come out with a tutorial, THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE. Do you WANT to have Map Making as a challlange? or A BABY TOY!?!?!)Thank you QUOTE
Make a petition for new triggers?
Blizzard barely cares about SC any more...
Lol... i just hope if SC2 ever does come out it will have as powerful or more powerful then Warcraft III The frozen Throne map editor, now that would be awsome, or if Blizz made a patch for sc and made one for SC
Chances are SC2 will use the same engine as WC3, probably(same triggers probably as WC3). If SC2 ever comes out! argg.
Ok here's what I think.. or know.
SC2 definetly won't be based on WC3 . . .
Blizzard isn't going to PAY people to work on a 6 year old game.
Most of the stuff they added in the patches were things that were already in the game, but Blizzard had only been using them internally. A few of the upgrades were for very simple things that didn't require them to change a lot of stuff in the game's code. What you guys are talking about would require major editing to the game.
Also, just because the map editor is more powerful, doesn't mean a newb can make a good map. Saying that an advanced editor would let anyone get into (U) is SO :censored:ING STUPID!!! WC3 has a very powerful editor, and look at how BAD the maps are for WC3.
Also, StarCraft "has" variables and math functions. Death Counters can be used as Variables, in fact, Blizzard utilized this first in their Tetris map. Math functions are also possible using these variables, Tuxedo-Templar wrote a tutorial on how to do Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and division. I'm not sure where it is, but you could try (U)Bolt_Head's Trigger Database.
You can also change unit energy, and enable/disable tech/buildings/units. A lot of your complaints are stupid, you are complaining that SC doesn't have things that it DOES. How about you check out the editor a little more and see what it is capable of.
There is currently a Plug-in for SCMDraft 2 under development that allows for full text-editing of triggers, unlike StarForge where you still have to do a lot of mouse clicking.
Bottom line, Blizzard isn't going to sink any more money into SC then they have to. A petition is really dumb, it's their game and it's their choice. If you want to do cool stuff in the editor, use it more and realize what it is capable of.
Ive thought about htis for years..
Starcraft needs a "vairable" system. I dont mean like the USER defines vairabkes. I mean predefined vairables.
Such as in a display text message you could go
"Player 1 has %P1MinCount"
And %P1MinCount would be replaced as the number of minerals player 1 has. Then you could do all sorts of things like this. Such as IF statements, etc.
It alos needs user defined variable you can use so you could say
x = 3
WHen player kills unit x+=1
and somewhere else
create x units
Or something like that.
Battlekruser you CAN do that. It's not as simple as you'd probably like it to be but you can do that. PM me or come talk to me in Clan uUu on East if you want to know how
Yes, I'm know you can but I meant to do it in one simple action.
Right now it is more work than ita worth.
2 things that should be added as an option triggers wise.
1. A trigger that loads another terrain, and all units that conflict with the new terrain are just removed to prevent bugs.
2. A trigger to Unreveal areas. Like a Anti-Map Revealer. Where if you put it somewhere no matter what when a unit moves there they wont be able to see anything. This is good if you want shared vision with someone or a computer but dont want some areas that the other person sees in your vision.
Trigger system should be upgraded (+x% HP, condition:"HP is x%", if-else, cycles, concat/number -> string,....)
Current trigger system MUST be kept, because some people will still use older version.
Blizzard will NOT EVER do anything with starcraft because:
-> someone here said there is only 1 person working at starcraft patches
-> their actions won't make much people to BUY starcraft:
the ones who still didn't will never do it, I think.
-> releasing such a patch means creation of maps, that are incompatible with all other starcraft versions.
-> 1.04 changes were made because BroodWar's 1st version was 1.04, and it was guarantee of spreading because MOST people play BroodWar, rather than original.
-> do you remember ANYTHING blizzard done to help modding comunity in StarCraft? NOTHING!
Maybe WE make a patch? (WE=programmers like Clockr_,Suicidal Insanity, a.s.o.)
How damn hard will it be? (HARD, but possible...)
What should be changed?
Will it spread?
And is it THAT much needed?
No idea if its possile but maybe a Trigger Processer, like PHP is for HTML would be a good idea
a 3rd party program that injects some code into starcaft iwth those l33t new triggers n stuff =)
What can I suggest:
a huge MOD, containing:
--->A modified storm.dll, that analyzes the MPQ filename that SC wants it to read, and replaces it if needed(maybe from one inside your map)
+ You may change a unit's HP,shield,weapon,sprite(look),subunits,ground/air,man/building(but I think you still won't be able to 'build' units as in warcraft3), PSI required/produced, dropship/bunker space provided/used by unit, AI actions, AI scripts..... Even changing map format from MPQ to ZIP.....
- It will cause a non-network lag on slow computers (I think < Pentium2-600Mhz )
- Everybody who play MUST install the mod, AND no Macintosh/Linux support
(By the way, IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO GET LINUX STARCRAFT, if it exists, MAIL ME PLEASE!).... It might be not impossible for Linux too.
--->An external memory patcher (like StarDraft control center, but in SC)
+ Trigger upgrade (yes, HARD, but possible)
+ Kills2String, concat,... I think it's real to make it.
+ Maybe, anti-map-hack protection
+ StarGraft-like most-wanted actions and buttons
+ Other things usually included in such patchers...
- Everyone who plays MUST RUN SAME, WINDOWS-ONLY VERSION. No MACs, no Linux, probably no localized versions.
- You might need to have administrator previlages on your computer, but I think you needn't (I don't like to run games as an administrator; if you can run CounterStrike on you computer, this will run Ok)
--->An additional MPQ pack
+ Most popular Gaphics, sounds, music, .......
+ Most popular AI scripts.
+ Maybe new look of Starcraft's interface (I think the original one is great, and needn't be changed).
+ Other things....
- Everyone must download that MPQ before playing your map.

Soooooo, your ideas?
