You know how triggers are considered a "limited" scripting language? Well should it be upgraded in SC2 to FULL scripting capabilities?
It could. But then you have to consider that most noobs won't bother. And since they make up 90% of the StarCraft population, who's going to play it?
I would have "basic" and "advanced" methods to editing triggers.
Yeah, they should keep this trigger system for noobs, but have one that's more powerful, and have much more functions for more advanced people.
Here's what we do:
We all get all of our friends, who get all of their friends, and we post on the Battle.net suggestion forums to make a big ass patch to change a lot in StarEdit. i.e. HP registry in conditions, larger unit, doodad, location, string limit, and a bunch of new triggers and whatever else (Good ideas, of course) you can think of. We can either do that and hope Blizzard listens, or we can just wait for StarCraft 2 to come out...

Well, DUH yes. However will Blizzard do it? That is uncertai. Not to mention there will be hologram VR games by the time SC2 comes out...
We Should stop talking about the petition and actually start it!
I'll open a topic in the garbage forum. Post your name under it and changes you would like blizzard to make to the editor. I'll make a list and your names comments and hopefully send it off to blizzard.
I agree with Moose, a simple and a complex editor would be nice.
But this is an idea my brother came up once some time ago, he said it could be named "Starcraft 1.5" lol.
But you must think, if we upgraded the trigger system, then WarCraft 3 would be even less better than SC, and I don't think Blizzard would like that x|

The limits are what make it fun. I say keep the limits.
The lag if there were more units would be horrible. If you can't do something with 1700 units then what on earth is it?
As for the triggers.. limits make things interesting. It wouldn't be so exciting to find out how to cloak hydralisks if you had triggers that could do it for you
Its fun finding ways around the rules and limitations
Remember that starcraft is over 6 years old, that it even has such powerful editing possibilities is impressive. Also remember that blizzard has bigger fish to fry, like new games...also I like the game the way it is. the only thing i think they should add is for people to be able to easly make mods, or make multiplayer moded games. Im sure someone has suggested anything we can think of already, but like i said, they probably have beter things to do.
They should make a expnsion that has a bunch of custom maps extras.
you forget there already is an expansion!
If you want to make your own triggers so much why not just make your own game?
i just wish for them to add more triggers but not changing the trigger system =/
Hell yes... There is like nothing that you can edit with StarForge. Always having to switch Editors is a pain in the ass. and StarEdit only have one isom terrain shape and there should be a choice between isom and square.
Gowr
They should DEFINANTLY have it possible to edit kills, all these other triggers are just pains.
but your right, you jsut dont get the satisfaction of doing someting if its TOO easy
What do you mean nothing you can edit with Starforge? I can make an entire map in it without using Staredit once (though I don't because SF's isom terrain sucks monkeynuts)
I think he meant can't edit with starforge, cause its so good.
P.S Gowr! it's Dave!
full scripting would be good but i would be happy with just more triggers like IF/ELSE conditions OR conditions variables or just more trigger orders
like ordering units to cast any spell with a trigger
or more ai scripts would be good
ANY thing would be good
Ai Scripts, i can make those, and you can get them to do almost anything that was possible before, you just make them, and then create a separate MOD of Starcraft using MPQDraft.
As for adding new "Triggers", i tried to explain a while ago, that although it would be nice, it is almost impossible, or in fact would force Blizzard to release a completely different Starcraft.
Think that every Trigger does a certain Function within Starcraft and so programmed in, and such adding more would require a re-work of the Engine to enable these new triggers to work, because there is limits to what Starcraft can allow, why do you think it crashes so much with these strange things you do to it? It just can't handle it because built-in safety measures, and points to follow get ignored or cannot be applied so it crashes because it doesn't know what to do.
It wouldn't matter either way, with "Full" capabilities like they attempted to do in the World Editor for Warcraft 3, (Colors, Protection etc) so that people wouldn't make these third party programs to do the job. But then, a week later you started to see more and more of these addons from the third party. No matter how much they open up the editor to the public, they'll still just try to expand it even more.
And also, by it being a limited scripting language, it also comes simplified. Full scripting would be straight out of the game's code and you'd have to know programming to do the most advanced of stuff.
But for those who can actually programme, it is a nice idea.
Anyhow, i agree, there are still Third Party Programs for Warcraft III Editor, even a different version of it with more added.
I'd just like it a system like on Warcraft III but in a Starforge trigger format. That'd be cool.
i agrre with alot of poeple on this thread. If it was that easy it would be hard to make a map that stands out because yours won'thave any special tricks or incredible usage of the triggers.
Although it would be cool to have stuff like they do on warcraft (like fires and sprites by them selves)
here are just some of the triggers i have come up with that i REALLY NEED.
- Change unit name
- Change unit health
- Change unit attack/armor
- Change unit energy
- Disable Tec/building/unit
- Enable Tec/Unit/Building
And those are just SOME of them. it would be really cool to have those triggers.

That proves it IS POSSIBLE to add triggers to the editor. And thats not the only time they did it too. take a look in the "patch" notepad file in you're SC directory, then scroll the the bottem a slowly move you're way up. you can see numeris editor changes and trigger updates.
