A video card will only fit in one way... and I'm pretty sure upside down is the correct way..(so the heatsink on it faces down..) tongue.gif

I really hope you're joking. I really hope you're joking.

That was sarcasm.

Obviously... I was kidding... have you tried setting it to run at 640x480? Right click the Starcraft .exe, properties, go to compatbillity tab, and set it there.

If Starcraft is crashing, you should recieve an error log from it(inside your starcraft folder, there's a folder called Errors that contains the logs). I can use the information in that file to tell you what might possibly cause the crash...depending on the complexity of it and where it is. I suspect that it might be a dll, and if it is...the crash log will tell me. if not...it might take some extra work to figure out.

Just put in the WinXP SP2 cd, click install windows. And install it over your old windows. It will delete all the old windows files, registries and all the crap that screws your PC. You won't loose anything else, just windows. And it will run fresh and fast.

Or you could go about the good, non file preserving way.

cmd.exe > format c:

Haha.. the only folder in my Starcraft folder is the 'maps' folder. Apparently, starcraft isn't registering the crashes. My computer's way of telling me stuff is so intelligent wub.gif.

blink.gif , that's wierd. Have you checked your DirectX drivers recently? That's one of the few things I can think of that would cause a silent crash... I'd consider re-installing DirectX either way...just in case.

Nope, the error files are in .err format, not .dll

There isnt any other folders beacuse you havent played single player yet. When you start the single player campaign, it creates the Characters folder, when you get an error, a error folder is made and when you save, a save folder is made.
Its not a starcraft error, or else the error folder would be made and would have a file inside it. it is probably a display problem, try playing it with all the screen resoulutions.

I know what they are. I meant that the crash might be caused by a dll, which could be determined by the call stack in the .err file. tongue.gif

There are some rare cases when SC's exception handler code won't catch crashes...and most of those that I can remember are caused when dll's are loaded.

BTW, does sc start up enough to switch resolutions before the crash?

I tried changing resolutions to as low as 600x800, and restarted 2 times. It's still there. Starcraft works perfectly aside from that.

I think it changes resolutions. Everything looks fine and it sometimes works when loaded but crashes other times.

Do you get any sort of message from SC or Windows when it crashes? And does it happen for versions before 1.14?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-12-02 at 17:57:41
It happened before and after battlenet patches. No message.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DiscipleOfAdun on 2006-12-02 at 20:23:02
Wow. I've never, ever had it not return an error message the way you are having.

Do you know how to debug a program? That's the only way I can think of finding out the problem - by debugging SC.

If you want to try, I can try to talk you through it sometime. I don't know if it'll show anything...but it's the last think I could think of.

Have no fear, DiscipleofAdun is here!

XD I didn't know it was possible to change resolutions in Starcraft, that might be whats causing certain shades of green and grey to turn pink and bright greet every time i load and then exit starcraft..

You can't change resolutions. I always though that was a palette thing. hmm.

well, I'm finally having some free time, so if you want me to try to help with this problem(I know its a bit old now...but my offer still stands...), pm me and I'll see what I can do about talking you through it.
