I bought Starcraft + Brood War for about the 5th time again today and installed it. After doing everything I did, I started it. Everything works, except for one thing - there's a static inactive area to the right of the screen, constant position, height and width (100% height). Everything is displayed, it's just a bit squished. I tried changing resolutions to as low as 600x800, and restarted 2 times. It's still there. Starcraft works perfectly aside from that.
So... any suggestions on how to remove it? It's downright annoying. Can my computer be simply too complicated a piece of machinery?
EDIT: It's not really half the screen, closer to 1/4, and apparently it just moved the active area to the left - some features which I remember being there, such as completed names while chatting, are missing.
UPDATE: Most of the time (100% except for two incidents), Starcraft crashes on my computer. I think it's because of my advanced piece of computer. Any solutions?
It might be better to post up a screenshot but is your video card old even though it might now really matter because starcraft runs on low preformance.
I explained it so that there's not much place where you can imagine the picture wrong. My video card is NEW. There's a reason I said that my machine could be too complicated for SC.
Do you have a widescreen monitor?
I doubt it's a 17 inch widescreen, so probably not. Just wondering, because widescreen uses a different aspect ratio than normal monitors, which could cause problems for you. But nevermind
I didn't think it was that either
. No one? No one had experienced this problem?
Does this mean I have the best video card on SEN? Just wondering
.
What card exactly? I have a GeForce 8800
No idea what can be causing your problem.
I have a hard time believing that considering there is no such thing as an "8800", only 8800GTS and GTX, and even then it's hard to believe somebody on SEN has one -_-

GeForce 8800GTX*** my bad.
And what makes you think noone on SEN would have a good video card?NVIDIA GeForce 6600
Fast enough to play WoW at full quality at ~30 FPS (30+ is useless), not loud, and no problems whatsoever. Except, possibly, this.
I sincerely doubt its a video card issue.

UPDATE: Reinstalled, problem still there. Can still crash, same screen problem. At times looks as if wrong palettes were used; i.e. the black hole is red.
How about some other games? Do they work fine? Usually for an old game, a video card that's too new may cause problems (FFVIII...)
But your GeForce should be fine. If you have another monitor, test that new monitor with your computer. At least that way, you can surely identify the problem...
No other monitor, but if I remember correctly I have played SC with this monitor before. Every other game runs perfectly. Any game of any quality whatsoever. I love my video card.
What OS are you running?
Did you update any drivers recently?(If not, try doing that...if so try reverting back to some older ones).
Do you have any gay software running in the background(I consider gay software to be Zone Alarm and sometimes Norton\Mcafee).
Did you touch Starcraft in any of the bad places that priests sometimes do to little boys?
Windows XP
No.
I have.. Trillian, MSN, Skype, Hamachi, Avast and a ton of other such-likes.
No.
FORMAT your windows!
No seriously it fixed everything for me.
No, seriously, what's that
. What exact settings and all?
I might still playing starcraft a lot, but Warcraft III has caught me and dragged me in. The new maps there are AWESOME. They made a 2d-gameplay game into 3d with tons of features and my favorite playing style.
Just put in the WinXP SP2 cd, click install windows. And install it over your old windows. It will delete all the old windows files, registries and all the crap that screws your PC. You won't loose anything else, just windows. And it will run fresh and fast.
I'll try. And backup everything I care about just in case.
This has been happening to Lakai too so your probably not alone. Maybe if Lakai and you told some variables we could figure out what the problem is.
Did you install your vid card right?
