Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> do you think time travel is possible?

<-Still too lazy to read most of the other posts. (Hey, I read some, lighten up)

I believe, that yes, its possible. I think weird, but I believe that right now, as I'm typing this, that cavemen are still living, like an infinite loop. Kinda hard to explain, like, Life is repeated, over and over, so the events of history are still going on, but not in out world, in a copy, say, 11 billion years ago, or whatever. I think theres probably a way (If what I say is true. Probably not tongue.gif) to go back and what not. Man, I can't remember what I was gunna say.

It really depends. Define time travel in relation to time as defined by Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

Maybe. After all, nothing is impossible.

A 5 that equals 3 is impossible. So is a square circle.

If you are goin at the speed of the light its not really time travel its just skipping through time without aging. Can you go back in time?

THis thread is pointless. Time does not exist, it is only relative to you. If you take a ship and go around the universe once, it takes you 64 years, but it takes Earth 3 billion.

Interestingly enough a 5 can equal 3, just have to get the variable right.

Just because time is relative does not mean it doesnt exist. Think of it this way using the Einstein block time model, the faster you travel the faster the universe around you travels just at several times to your variable.

i think time exists as a word to describe what we cannot describe

TIme does not exist as a real thing. Like I said it depends on where you are, just liek motion is not real. I mean, try to define "at rest"

time doesnt really depend on where you are because time is "passing" all the time and at the same "speed"
and uh i think motion is real because you can see it and even if you couldnt it is still real

I think that if you guys agreed on this topic the world would implode

"at rest" would be 0 kelviv Aka absolute zero, at that point all the atoms have stopped spining and everything is literally "at rest". So you're wrong motion is quite real. Its just that you are moving all the time.

Like I said before what does location have to do with it being real or not ? nothing, if time did not exist nothing would happen everything would be eternally frozen in one spot.

Time is a dimension (look up M-theory), we live in a 4-dmensional universe the three spacial dimensions and time as the fourth.

I say, "Yes" cause Techolacy will keep improving. As you can see researchers has invented an Lazer that can kill someone, right now their trying to make it a bit smaller cause of it's huge size. Later in the future. A new type of nuclear bomb will be made. New types of Viruses are coming.

Time travel is logically possible using wormholes in space-time, which is curved, allowing you to curve around and burrow through behind where you were before.

Don't ask me for the details - they're long and boring.

Here's the basics though - the faster you move, the slower time moves for you.
An example: Two identical twins are used in an experiment. One twin stays on Earth, the other blasts off on a spacecraft going at half the speed of light.
The spacecraft orbits Earth for a certain number of Earth years and then lands. The twin on the Earth will have aged a hell of a lot more than the one on the spaceship.

So, theoretically, we can travel back in time by going faster than the speed of light. Unfortunately this is also impossible. Physics says that the faster an object moves, the greater its mass becomes, and therefore the greater the force required to push it. An object moving at the speed of light has infinite mass, and so of course it needs infinite force to push it.

We don't have infinite forces. closedeyes.gif

Personally i belive you could easily travel back though time. It in my mind would be a quite painful process but im sure you could do it some how.

somehow... HOW?

I do not think time travel as most people think of it is possible. I however think that you can reverse the flow of light to see what was in the past. However it would be more like a holorgram than the actual world.

People theorized that wormholes can be used for time traveling.
IE: The movie "Contact" she travels through time through the wormhole.

IF that's true, then traveling BACK in time is impossible but FOWARD in time isnt.

Think about it, if you travel back in time and f**k something up, it will f**k you and everything else up Bad. Lets say like int he Movie "Back to the Future." Marty almost wiped himself off the face of the earth by interfering with his parent's relationship. If we did something close to that, it might even make the entire human race nonexistent.

Time travel might be possible. If someone would time travel, the universe could be destroyed. It depends how the universe runs. Whenever I say present, I mean the present of where the timetraveller came from. If you go back in time, you will be altering the past, which will alter the present, which will alter the past which will again alter the present, etc. Such constant change might cause the universe to 'overload' and destroy the universe. Then again, the effect could be totally different. You could go back in time an any changes you cause will not affect "your" present, because it'll be sort of like an alternate dimension.

Actually it wont mess anything up, not with the universe you ame from anyways. See if you were to travel back in time you would not be traveling back into your universe's time frame but another.

example: You travel back in time to kill your grandfather, but as you reach him and you try to shoot him the gun fails. You leave and come back this time with a knife but the knife falls apart. You then proceed to travel back 100 more times, each time still magically failing to kill him. The point is traveling back to your own univ erse's history makes it impossible to change anything unless it goes within the alredy set history. -- But seeing as this is not the way traveling back in time is thought to work, yo would tavel back in time sure but it would be an alternate universe with the same history. But this time you can do anything you want, een including kill yourt grandfather and "you" will still exist.

I hated contact, it was so boring. Back to the future was odd... I would freak out if my mom started hitting on me.

I remember this incident.

They made 2 atomic clocks. They set both the EXACTLY THE SAME TIME. As you know, atomic clocks are THE most accurate clocks in the world. Every clock will be off by a certain time, however, atomic clocks measure the vibrations in atoms, so they are DEAD accurate.

They attached one clock to the ground and one to a supersonic plane. The plane went around the world, in the other way the world turns (counter clock wise). When the plane landed, they measured both clocks together.

The clock on the plane was one nanosecond or so faster than the one on the ground.

So something can be concluded from this story.

Yeah, Cesium atoms are gay. I do believe in time travel, and you can travel forward through time. In a blackhole time slows as you get closer to it. Just before you died, if you looked out, you could see the whole universes future go by in a second or two, or the universes history until the black hole implodes. That would be cool.

I don't think it is possible to time travel because it is impossible to somehow warp the space-time contimum in to the past or future.
