Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Bush Reenstating Draft

Bush is a turd. He is stupid and hypocritical. Drafting can tear apart a family. This is a free country, so people, especially civilians, shouldn't be forced to enter the army. There are plenty of volunteers, and the U.S. army is one of the biggest armies int he world.

[Center]Bush didn't say anythign about him supporting the draft. And neither did Kerry. If any of them supported the draft before one of them wins the election, they just screwed themselves.

why do we need 13000 more soldiers if we have a estimated 10000 already there. if i get drafted i will renounce my citizenship and move to someother country.

You can go right ahead and try doing that. It wont work. You cannot escape the power of the draft.[/center]

The main problem with that is that drafted soldiers are nowhere near as good as soldiers that volunteer.

Take Nam for example. When you compare the numbers of the soliders who volunteered to the ones that were drafted, you get some interesting results:

The ones that volunteered lived an average of 4 times longer than those who were drafted. The volunteers' companies did better, more effective fighting, they worked as a team and actually accomplished objectives, they ate fewer rations and required fewer supplies. They also had a much higher morale rate [which translates into healthier soldiers]. They came back from Nam in better mental health than the draftees. They resumed their normal lives and nothing had really changed...

Its the draftees that you always hear about on the news. They are the ones that [for the most part] came back with mental problems. They are mad at the government because they were drafted and then :censored:ed with overseas for a war that they didn't understand.

Yes, I will admit it, I don't think the war in Iraq is right. We had done our job, then we decided to push our power and make everything better for them [so they would be just like america]... Unfortunately, they don't want to be like america [which I can understand completely]. But did we listen? Nope. We fight our war [and yes it is our war, because nobody else is really fighting it] Its not even a war either...

We've got this "War on Terror" going on right now, which isn't actually possible. You can't have a war on an ideal... Its like a "battle for happiness"... It just doesn't work...

Since you have failed to tell me where this was found, and since I've done some research on my own, Bush has not reenstated the draft, and will not until at least the end of elections. No one is that stupid.

If Bush reINstated the draft, then he would lose the election. Good point.

Actually, they’re already taking precautions to make sure people don’t do that very thing.
