Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Best Map Idea On SC?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2005-01-04 at 20:09:48
Probably. I played the game for months after I found out how to control the ghosts properly and own every newb out there. They consistantly called me a map hacker untill I finally got an anti-maphack map.

The best ideas were the ones that stayed true to the Starcraft Gameplay. Such as battlefield and the other diplomancy maps. Cat and mouse was very good as well. But Starcraft is best played as a war game, although I enjoy playing other kinds of maps.

I dont see Cat & Mouse as a good idea.. it was based off a censored.gif load of other tag maps.. just the unit names and map names changed..

I meant as the idea itself. I'm not saying the creator is nice for that idea, just that if this idea popped outta nowhere, that's pretty good.

I don't find dodgeball and football as fun as sniperz, but when you have a censored.gif ty mouse like I do, you can't be that good at sniperz locks. Btw, I just checked game list and saw 9 defences, 2 bounds, which actually surprised me too.

ADDITION:
You USUALLY can't be AS good as people with good mouses.

Should I keep saying that I'm LiQuiD(U) in every post i do?

I agree with Devlin's first post the Turret D is the greatest map idea. These turret D are the most played map (public games) and i still think they are fun. I always loved to play defense maps (unless they suck, but most of em are fun) many new defenses ideas came after and we still find new (tourmenteur(U)'s prysm D and his new templar d)

The Obstacle idea was great too.. but..

My second choice would be Dodgeball (was it the first of all ball games??)
Do I have to say why?

No first ball game i believe was Scv Football.

No wait, it wasnt. Blizzard's Pro Bowl was the first ball game.

SCV Football would definately have been second.

Too bad that game really has nothing to do with football

Everyone has own opinion which you think is a good idea and not so good of idea, beatuy of human mind. Which in anycase i can't say much for maps these days pretty much same endless maps being hosted. Although, Qpirate's rpgs are very slick and same with bolt's horror maps. But as bolt said, a good idea can turn bad, while a bad idea can turn good. All depends on map maker and how much work he willing to put into his map. Which these days alot people rush..

MillenniumArmy theres an idea for you then-- make a real football game using dropships, shuttles, and both types of overlords. with a 3v3 game you could have 6 people per team. A QB, RB, 2 WR, and 2 blockers. One player would be a QB and RB, they would have the handoff option on the QB. The running back would have to be in a certain location or the ball would fumble... 2x2 maybe. Or the QB could have pass to WR1, or pass to WR2. To catch the WR would have to drop a "catch" unit. Defense would have knock down that would work 100% of the time if they were on the area, and intercept that would pick it 25% and knock down 50%, leaving 25% to go through. With different speeds the map could go very well.

Slow Overlord -- p1 and p4's qb. (might end up being too slow, experiment with it a bit.)
Fast Overlord -- p2, p3, p5, p6 linemen.
Dropship -- Defensive players.
Shuttle -- p1 and p4's RB, p2, p3, p5, p6 wide reciever.

I thought about this map for a while but im too lazy to make it. It wouldnt actually be too trigger intensive but could be a definite fun game. If anyone wants to make this talk to me and maybe we could work on it together,

(No, I dont consider this the best map idea on SC.)

Pretty good idea faz-, like how use different units for different jobs like in real football happy.gif gj, yea slow OL maybe a bit slow, so need think up different unit or somehow speed it up.

Interesting... but even if i (or someone else) do make that, what are we going to name it? "REAL Football?" Once we start releasing that map into the public, when a typical battle.netter sees that map name, they'll be like "Oh it's just another scv football map."

That's another retarded thing about battle.net. There's this psychological thing where if a new map has a similar name to another existing map on battle.net, it's not going to spread as effectively. For instance, if you look at Bolt's House of the Haunted, it's a great map and should be VERY popular. The thing is, there were many horror maps before it and usually when people want to play a horrorish map, they'll just pick one of the older horror maps and play those instead. Same thing also happened to Mathrix(U)'s SWAT. There were MANY swat games out there (and none of em really have anything to do with SWAT). It's hard to spread math's swat map because it's name is too similar to other swat maps. Those other swat maps are fun and so people would play those instead if they see it first in their downloads folder.

Both of those games are somewhat popular on Battle.net, but not as popular as they could've/should've been.

Still -- GgG would popularize it. Once the map actually gets out there and noticed though, it would over-ride the older versions. Just call it like "Non-SCV Football!" or real football as you said. I think either would become popular. Or even "6v6 Football" which would prey on false hopes of a 6 player vs. 6 player football game. So its a bit of false advertising, who cares right? =þ

Im disgusted by this talk of making a "real" football map, ScV Football is the best, simple but very complex, and if you think you are good try playing a high ranked member in Clan ScVz

MICRO maps!!! requires alot of skill =D hell fun and they actually improve your GAMEPLAY for starcraft
my person opinion is that micro maps ( standard old micro where it u on another guy with group units then u change sides vs again so on so forth not team ones ) are the only maps on "use map settings" that improve your game play biggrin.gif

ask any pro gamer tongue.gif

Of course it is the best football map made at the moment, other than the fact that it isn't actually football. I had propositioned MillenniumArmy to make this more realistic kind.

Also, I have beaten many of the older and very skilled ScVz clan members, including a former leader of the clan. I'm not shabby at micro maps. =)

my best map is phantom, personally
Report, edit, etc...Posted by FaZ- on 2005-01-14 at 19:45:18
I'm sorry, but phantom to me is too time consuming. After a while you just end up attacking someone randomly because of boredom. Anyone new the the map as the phantom ruins it, and someone that is experienced playing as the phantom will never allow the slightest hint of whether or not it is him. Either way, the game is ruined. Not one of my favorites.

I dont really have a best map. What i mean by best is like best as an overall score in all the different categories of judging a map (like creativity, originality, complexity, neatness, terrain, etc).

I only work towards creativity and Fun Factor. That's really what makes my games played despite some sloppiness in some areas.
