What do you think is the best map idea on Starcraft?
I always thought that the best map idea was Nozomu's mech Test

(Most of the map ideas are in the Experimental Maps in the download database)

The first 3D buildings by Yoshi were a great idea. Now a lot of people are doing really neat terrain because of that.

Ideas are only a small part of the whole picture.

Some people can take a bad idea and make a good map while others can take a good idea and make a bad map. Its all about how you put it together, there are many 'sub ideas' like settings units and specifics that make the map good however.

(this is why i don't read "idea" threads. Or hardly any thread in the Showcase)

I think the best map idea was the first defense, "Turret Defense." I admit, it wasn't the best made map, but it sure was ahead of its time. From that one map sprouted a whole new craze in map making. More defenses are being made and survine longer than pretty much all bounds. Every time I look at the public game list, I'd rarely see a bound being played but there are always defense maps being played.

What server do you play on, because I see bounds a lot on US East.

I had an idea for a map, but I was too lazy, and scrapped it. It was going to be a defence map, and for each unit you let past, you have to do a level on one of those Lvl Up bound things. It was kinda hard to do when I started... then I quit it.

I think there are tons of great ideas used in maps. But I don't think anyone of them is better than the others. Each new idea (like virtual HP, dropship missiles, etc) has it's own place ... it's own map and they each help make good maps when used properly.

Though one thing I found completely useless and ridiculous were 3d buildings. They take up too much space and are only there for looks. I'm more fond of functionality.

Hmm I play on East and West and I usually see 1 bound game or at most 2. I remember when basically every game was a bound, back when they were uber-popular. Now I rarely see more than 2 at once.

The best map ideas are original ones; those that have never been made or seen before on SC.

That's y bounds are so looked down on; they usually arent original and are just replicas of each other.

One thing that made me sort of happy was that bounds got a lot of people into map-making. A lot of people got their start making bounds. It's nothing to be proud of, but it's nothing to be ashamed of, either. I think that the community benefitted from the influx of bound-makers, personally.

Best map Idea on SC is snipers lock, imo.
That's kinda the only thing I play on SC anyway... but seriusly, this needs both tactic and click speed, and you still have time to chat with the other players (when you're dead).

The title is best map idea, so I don't thnik StarCraft counts, but does the Campaign Editor? If it was never made, we wouldn't be able to change anything at all in maps.

Maybe, Make Obstacles,Like Mission Maps but everytime a objective is complete then theres a new one????

It's not just bound maps. After years of playing sc on battle.net and seeing so many great maps, im sure people would be like "Wow these maps are awesome. Maybe i can make one as good or better!"

I find sniper maps completely skilless. The only skill in the game is how many times you dont mc. Lock though adds a little more skill, but not that much. But games like Speed Duels i really find no skill in those at all.

Football does, but i dunno bout dodgeball. Games that function through triggers dont require as much skill as those that dont (eg: Dodgeball needs ball throwing triggers. Baseball needs Sieging tank triggers. Basketball needs shuttle drop triggers.) Only thing football needs is the score triggers but control of the scvz is the skill part.

Bolt has an excellent point here, just look at me and my gta maps! I'm admiting that gta:sanandreasand gta:mexico city were good ideas, but made into bad maps.

There are so many more things to snipers than speed and tactics. Many of the new players have no idea about these things, and snipers lock helps out these players a ton. I made locks first as a free for all map, which in my opinion is much more fun because you can fog people everywhere while still keeping the speed idea. I got my idea from a war3 map where the camera followed you from behind and you had to lock them.

MilleniumArmy-- Just because you do not know about the skills does not mean that they do not exist. Why else would sniper paintball remain popular for soon to be 6 years? There are a few of the better players that know all about these moves. Speed duels which i made emphasizes these skills by showing you everyone. Talk to me in a month and my guide should be done. Then you will truly know snipers.
