Instead of using all this 1MB private space for everyone why not use your attachments and add a hide feature that does the same thing as the current File backups.
It's much better since most people have about 8Mb or 12Mb(I don't remember since Global Mod has more), and they can use that space since most people are suing less than 1Mb of attachment space and you wouldn't be using another 1Mb for every user.

How about enabling ZIP files?

SF makes backups on your harddrives. If your HDD was ever to fail, what would happen to your map?

Well, i didn't thought of that, but just use mini space, u know the small memory u put in USB (USB Storage) and t's good !!! it dont cost too much right now and prices are going down for these, i think it's the better thing to do, ....
well, if i goodly understand, it is for people without any USB sorage or web storage, okkkk i undestand !!! but i got an web storage (1Go if i want for free) and soon i think an USB storage, so : WHO WANT MY 1MB OF SEN ??? biggrin.gif

No matter what, its still going to be a part of the IPB system where its all in the uploads directory. However, I'll work upon getting the global space to integrate with the mod, thus having one, global space limit. However, I would then be forced to bring down everyones space limits, because it would be more popular due to the fact that you can store more.

Then people would store things other than map files. There was an option in the mod to make selected files into zips, but it failed to zip properly (server doesn't support it).

If you guys have USB drives, cds, whatever your prefered method is, go right ahead. I don't care (saves us space for other users who would take advantage of it). I know I wouldn't mind having a place to quickly upload backups.

I'll be putting it as a part of UserCP soon. It still needs some work, but you guys get the general idea of what the feature is supposed to do.

Yoshi why not just have something like the 8mb of space for members and 15 for regulars. Then you can choose to have "private" or "public" files. Additionally, the 1mb/post limit sucks. Why not 4 or 5 mb?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2005-01-12 at 16:42:14
Actually FIle Backups are VERY useful, especially if you switch around on computers alot...

If you want to make a map but will be using different computers each time, save your work onto SEN's thing and then once you are on another computer somewhere else, just dl it from SEN and get to work on it. Once through, upload it back to SEN. It's like a portable storage device! w00t.gif

Because you're not paying the server fees, thats why. We're trying to limit our costs to minimal so IP pays less. When I integrate it with your global space, then we'll be in biz.

Quick question: How much is IP paying a month/year for this site?

It would be great to backup the maps (sans the sound, of course)

I agree with using it for that purpose. My Dad's computer sometimes freezes when I open maps from my USB memory card thing, so I think I will use it for that purpose, biggrin.gif

I have a theory with the sound problem. If you have a map with over 1MB of sound, then it's kind of a bit big for a StarCraft map. I think this is intended to back-up some things you are working on. Once you finish, you can post the version with sound in a post or submit it, then that is your back-up, and since it's done, it won't matter if people can see it.

Its been taken down temporarly so I can set up the new menu system. Hold on...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by FaZ- on 2005-01-12 at 22:39:12
Yeah I saw a screwy menu for a few pages... it's gone again now. It had like Menu 1, Menu 2, and Menu 3, and allowed a dropdown box for each of them... interesting.

EDIT: I forgot about the actual topic-- oops. I definitely like the idea of map backups, and opposing this is about as logical as opposing gay marriage. If it doesn't affect you negatively in ANY way, then why the hell would you complain about it? Like MillenniumArmy said, using it when switching between computers is great. Also, sometimes I'm at friend's houses and want to show them how I did something in one of my maps. If I can quickly download it thats great, and much easier. Thanks Yoshi!

I was trying to get a simple dropdown script, but the bloody things are so poorly coded.

I dont know enough javascript or I'd do it myself.

Is the file LotR V. FotW Alpha 1.0.scx?

I see it here, but its not showing up in your CP (you must of changed the has somehow).

This thing is also making tons of unnecessary directories, letme clean it up and reset your hash. I'll repair the problem in a moment.

ADDITION:
I restored your hash manually and I'll prevent it from changing like that again.

Wow, this is a good concept. But has anyone heard of backing up your files with a cd-rw? Or maybe, just maybe, a huge SD card? I don't know why you don't just do those things, but otherwise, this is a great idea!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by OvErRuN on 2005-01-13 at 20:25:29
Yoshi, I've got a big question.
What about doing file backups for stuff becides maps.Like rare backgrounds etc. Still keeping at 1mb space.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-01-15 at 16:12:37
We're storing your map stuff, not your personal files.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dust_core on 2005-01-19 at 05:05:35
It is a bummer when your computer just ogt crashed then it neede to be reformatted in order to work, heck, you have your maps in there. And it will be gone when you reformat a pc. Well i think this is not helping much because how can we save enough of our files when the back-up storage is only 1 mb????

As I said, wait till I integrate it with your global space this weekend. This is a good thing, because you'll have the amount of space left on your account (5mb max member, 10mb max member, and 20mb max elite).
