*reaches into pocket and scrapes out his last two cents*

The reason the High Templar forum has been created seems to have been in order to provide an environment similar to the 'old SEN', where (a) members knew each other much better, and (b) members could discuss topics of all natures without excessive spam or flames being generated.

The Serious Discussion forum was created originally to provide the environment for serious discussion about non-starcraft issues. However, as the pinned topics in the forum indicate, the forum seems to have been overrun with the very undesired thing in a serious discussion forum: spam and flames.

Rather than shut down the Serious Discussion forum, it was decided to create an alternative forum, the High Templar forum, in another attempt to create the desired environment. The method that seemed most reasonably effective in preventing the same problems from occurring again was to only allow trustworthy members, those who were very unlikely to flame one another (such as those original members of the site), to access the forum.

My first suggestion was that the problem of unhappy members who felt excluded probably felt that way especially because of the way the forum asked to be read - "High Templar" and "hand-picked" were interpreted as elitism and egoism. So I proposed that the purpose of the forum could be simply clarified by a simple renaming/redescription of the forum, my suggestion being the "Oldies' forum".

I acknowledge that there is no fool-proof answer or solution to unhappy members. But I think there are simple and easy things that can be done to help.

So here is my second and final proposal.
The "High Templar forum" should be a place for serious discussion, but it is currently viewed as elitist and full of egoism. The "Serious Discussion forum" was supposed to be a place for serious discussion, but is now full of egoism and self-righteousness.

The solution, then, is not to change anything, except to switch the names of the forums - the current "High Templar forum" should be called the "Serious Discussion forum", because that is an accurate description of its purpose; the current "Serious Discussion forum" should be called the "High Templar forum" so that any thought of egoism is also an accurate description of that forum.

I wish you all a nice day.

Changing the names means nothing.

What we need to do is open the forum up for reading by all members. If you really don't want us posting around you, you are still safe in that forum; to everyone else it's as if the topics are locked.

This topic was made because the members saw the name of the forum... Showing it's content will just make people more jealous.

What is gained from hiding it? Why do want it hidden from us that badly?

And I'm 99% sure people made this topic because they saw the forum but couldn't even read what was in it.

If you can view it, its going to be us under your microscope. Analyzing and possibly criticizing our every move.

Egoism? Sorry, that's exactly what I want to keep out of the forum. If anyone's gloating over being able to access it, I'm kicking their ass out. They're in there because they're smarter than that.

Let me get this clear:

You don't want us to be able to see what you guys guys write because you don't want us to criticize it? Are you that insecure? I seriously doubt it. Why do you care that we possibly talk about what you write in another forum? If you are that afraid of criticism from the "unwashed", you still are safe and secure from our responses in that forum because we cannot post there.

Lemme rephrase, criticize EXECESSIVELY. And you can post anywhere else.

Also, please remove the insults from your signature.

It's a privilege. It's hidden. Earn that privilege to post in there. How to earn? Don't complain about not being able to see/post there, don't flame, act mature, get along with others. It's not like it's an amusement park that won't let you in. It's a forum where oldies like to discuss matters, that maybe they don't want other people to see?

I don't know if this is really accurate, but its a "Private Club" that certain picked members can only enter and discuss.

Seriously, it would be best if this topic was just deleted.. or locked (Permanently) and let it drift away.

I know many forums which have a certain forum like this. One is BlameThePixel (for WWP), and you get access to it if you have 0 warns, at least 1000 posts, and your user rating is or above 15 (out of 20, starts at 10 when you join). Some other forums have it too. I think there was a thread like this in one when it was created, people complained, it was discussed over, people agreed to drop it, the topic was locked, and life went on.

That's just dumb. All users being able to see posts there doesn't contradict any of that. What is there to hide?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Merrell on 2005-10-18 at 18:15:28
It's a private forum for THEM and not YOU. Stop complaining. Nothing "big" to see anyhow, but that's besides the point.

And once again, remove the insulting signature, as Moose said.

Th main problem I see here is that some newer yet mature members might not be let in, since they havent been at SEN for that long.

How about Moose tells us he removed it. That way everyone shuts up.

Jesus, if the signature gets to you that much than just ignore absolute. Game over.

is this forum to discuss non-starcraft serious events? darn I want to be in it! in fact serious discussion is my most active topic.... there are also some other serious discussion activists... maybe you should broaden your scope of allowed players....

Why does everyone say I said it was a good idea?

I simply said I liked it. More importantly, I said something in the back of my mind tells me it's a bad idea and I'm ignoring it right now.

So stop it. Lock this.

@ Absolute

Can you please just be quiet? It's starting to annoy me. Your silly bickering isn't going to sway Moose into allowing you, or anyone else access to the forum that does not need it. Why must you continue to heckle and annoy for the same stupid answers? IF you want a place for that serious of discussion, go somewhere else!

In case you're wondering:

No, I am not one of the hand-picked members for the High Templar forum. I am just sick of the bullblam that people are creating over something as trivial about a hidden forum on a site dedicated to Starcraft! Jesus, just go outside and get some fresh air. Please....
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ultimo on 2005-10-19 at 00:48:53
Why are you argueing over this if it's trivial? You obviously care enough to post. -_-
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Forsaken on 2005-10-19 at 08:35:47
Because Absolute just needs to drop the subject. Too me it appears as if he is the only one complaining. How I see it is, if you are invited, then good for you. If you do not gwt invited, move on. All it is, is a hidden forum. There are many places that have these. Besides, I'll keep repeating it:

This is a website dedicated to Starcraft. Nothing more, nothing less.

This is Absolute:

Hey, I have a question. If my signature was flaming, and some angry mod changed my signature to include my name in it, wouldn't that mean that they are flaming? I was suspended for it... should the mods really be doing things they suspend others for?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2005-10-19 at 10:31:09
I think it's time you laid off the grapes, Absolute.

You need to accept that selecting people for forums like HT is very subjective anyway, but there are a few things that you don't have which might have got you in:

- Respect for the powers that be on SEN.
- Helpfulness and general sociability.
- A good temper.
- Being a long-standing member of the site.

You have a lot of promise though, I reckon. You're articulate and able to construct a decent post or argument. You're obviously intelligent but you don't use your intelligence in a productive way.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-10-19 at 10:45:26
I've never argued that the moderators should let everyone post in that forum; I've argued that they should let everyone see that forum. My most recent post was not about that, however; it was about the hypocritical actions of the moderators. I don't see how anyone could defend that.
