Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> 4 Reasons why Bush should not be president

Know why the federal government was pretty much required to aid Louisiana and the other gulf coast states?

QUOTE("US Constitution - Article VI @ Section 4")
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

When the hurricanes hit, the state and local governments' authority within New Orleans and the outlying areas essentially fell apart. And what was the result? Rioting, looting, murders, shootings, all the harbingers of chaos concentrated in a single city.

And soon it spread elsewhere.

Yeah exactly Im not saying the government wasn't required to assiste. Im just trying to point out that you can't just say

"ZOMG WTF BUSH DIDN'T WIT KITRINA ZOMG"

Cause there are things that needed to be proccessed. Yes I would say the government should have pressured the state more to request for assistance, which they did, just not that much.

Law and justice are different. It would have been justice for Bush to barge in and help save people, but it would be against the law.

Or, the national government abuses the constitution and barges into a state for little or no reason.

I haven't noticed the Bush administration showing much care for "regulations". Iraq, anyone?

Like I said before, it's called common sense. It may be technically unconstitutional for Bush to have sent the feds into Louisiana until when he did, but he should have anyway. Certain local leaders were already begging for assistance. Do you really think Bush wouldn't have been lauded had he made an altogether illegal act of saving hundreds of lives?

For example, let's say you loved someone passionately but had a restraining order because they didn't love you back. If you saw them drowning, you would save them, right?

No, I say let the biznatch drown. She stole my house, my car, and my kids.

But seriously, good point.

So your saying Bush loves the people in New Orleans and abroad?

Also Iraq, congress voted to go to war. He went with regulations

Now your basing your point on opinnion which is iresponsible in a controled debate of this level. I base my point which is: You shouldn't complain about Bush being slow because etc, on facts from the constitution.

You do know, that he was in Iraq before congress voted, yes?

The UN did not sanction the Iraq war. By all "proper regulations" we had absolutely no right to go into Iraq. It would have been like Missouri National Guard troops going into L.A. without any permission from the L.A. government or the feds.

No, Bush clearly doesn't seem to have any compassion for those living in New Orleans.

Sadly, I think that's true. Wouldn't want to see his brother's reputation tarnished.

What I hate about republicans is they always try to take the higher moral ground. They say "Well we didn't go into Louisiana because it wasn't legal". "We went into Iraq to bring freedom!". But in truth the party is full of corruption, sanctioned or ignored by its leaders.

Does he have compassion for anything?

Of course, he has compassion for God! He's a devout Christian or he better look like one to keep getting the vote of the bible-thumping right-wing extremists.

Yes, it does indeed.

Its more like sending the national gaurd and not asking Canada if we could. F the UN, its more corrupted then the American Government could ever hope to be.

*Looks around* Last time I heard the right wing extremestists weren't doing anything. Oh and who are they? Don't say Bill O'Reilly cause hes not a republican, hes very conservative yes, but he critizes Bush almost as much as Michael Moore.
