I'm not sure how you can prove someone used x-tra to do their map, or any 3rd party program. I think it's pretty stupid if you insist on disqualifying people if you "THINK" they did though.

What if you do use staredit yet you're suspected of using a 3rd party program? How is that going to work?

ya... cuz like someone said a few pages back, "try alt 001-008 codes" or something like that. Cuz StarEdit wont stop you from putting in certain symbols, there just not copy paste available. confused.gif And would using notepad to copy paste a tab be considered as a disqualification? (i cant spell happy.gif )

You will see. Try to test your skill, instead of complaining or trying to hide 3rd party program usage. Skill, SKILL is that matters not programs. Of course we can't catch all who will cheat but the best maps will be checked much better.

You want a safe way how to not get kicked? Use only staredit wink.gif

We will open all the maps in staredit. If we get an error you're automatically disqualfied.

If we see something unexplainable.. etc.

BW can load .scm so it won't be a hassle for the judges.

So if I pull out System Tools\Character Maps to find how to make "ò.ô" (an example that I memorized anyway), I'd get kicked?

That will raise the question of scripts and colors again, as well as preplaced units belonging to a player of the wrong race.

Can I be a judge, not a scoring judge, but one that looks for non-staredit uses and where things that can't be done in staredit... I will actually go for real judge too if you're up for it.

I'm not counting character map as a third party program.

I know you answered this before, but you've given mixed messages. Is the rule for detecting simply, "if StarEdit deletes it, it's illegal"? Obviously there are things you can do with SCXE that StarEdit does not kill upon opening.

If we're following DEAD's words verbatim (only what you can do with StarEdit alone), can colors and extended scripts still be allowed since they can be pasted/loaded?

i think the answer is basically yes, but just without open another program, so you'd have to get the colors and triggers from somewhere else........am i right?

Ok for all those who have no idea what is going on, and did not bother to read the first several pages of the post. Let me reiterate what is going on, that Deathknight has said in his "update post", and what Syphon said at the beginning of the thread.

Rules: What is said on the first page.
Colors are allowed if you find the Alt+# codes for them.
Anything that can't be done in Vanilla Staredit/BroodWar Staredit will not be allowed.
No third party programs, do it all yourself, no shortcuts, or avoid doing so.

Q: Can;t I just use SCXE for this little itty-bitty--
A: No.

Q: Is there an entrance fee?
A: Not anymore.

Q: Are you sure we can't use--
A: No.

Q: Why not?
A: I don't have to explain myself to you. I just told you "no".

Q: You suck.
A: Not a question, but untrue. I am a massive jerk who is loud and rambunctious.

Q: What is the point of the contest?
A: To make the best possible SC map usuing Vanilla and no third party programs.

Q: What happens if the judges find something in my map that's not vanilla possible?
A: You will either be
A; be thrown out of the contest for something obvious or egregious. E.g. square terrain, units belonging to an inncorrect race at the beginning of the map, starting a race with OVER 200 supply provided per each race (yes, SCXE breaks the 200 supply limit for each race), certain AI scripts not found in vanilla (junkyard dog, shared vision), protection, colorization (of player, not of text).
B; given a chance to explain yourself and prove it was done vanilla.
This contest is based on guilty until proven innocent. Get yourself a divorce from the American justice system.

Q: Why is DEAD seemingly in charge?
A: Because he said Sypohon put him in charge until his homework is done.

Q: Why are you here?
A: Umm. Shut up.

Q: No seriously. Why are you telling us this?
A: SQUELCHED!

Q: !$%@$%#$^&^@$%&%&
A: I can't hear you because I squelched you!

Q: Which third party programs are allowed?
A: None, except the stuff that runs your computer to turn on your SC Edit. Although some people willl no doubt break this rule, as long as it can be done in vanilla, it is allowed.

Q: What's my incentive/motivation?
A: That nice big pot (currently over 2500 minerals), and also being called a skilled map maker who doesn't need third party programs to be great at map making. this a is a talent contest of pure skill. Not some fancy trick.

Q: You missed something.
A: Yeah I probably did. Tell me about it. PM or post. I don't care.

I was trying to be nice! spare the people from having to read 16 pages of 8th grade level reading! Is it a crime to be kind? Ohh, why must you persecute me? Do I have to give you a reason, or should you just assume I did it to help?

My map is on the Snow tileset. It'd be a lot better if I can change the color of the text to, say, yellow, instead of white.

Oi. Can you just give out a list of VERY explicit rules? My map will spawn monsters that, in the optimal case scenario, roam around aimlessly. Junkyard dog will be the best tool, and it'd take a lot more redudant work to use Order triggers in lieu of it.

Did I mention anywhere that it was supposed to be funny? Don't put words in my f***ing mouth, Merrell. what may seem like humor is infact, pure sarcasm and a proves a point, that most people are idiots.

Thank you.

I don't think that SOME people caught on about that "humor" as actually an allegorical representation of what has happened in this thread. I don't f*** with comedy.

*cough Merrell cough*

EDIT: I may have accidentally added what occurs often in Battle.net, when people ask questions before they get the entire message. I don't wish to be mean. I just want you to figure it out.
