Hmm.. I usually don't think of trolls as spell resistant, but maybe it's because I usually think of them like in Dungeons and Dragons where they just have high regeneration rate, and you need fire/acid to do the last damage to them to kill them. Though I don't see how either can be done effectively with the way this is set up (it would probably need virtual HP to pull it off, and I already know you aren't using virtual HP) I think resistances is a pretty good idea in general though, would be dumb having a fire elemental get killed by fire or something like that.
I realize this is a late answer, but it's only automatic spell and skill upgrades, a computer has them researched and it would give you one of the computers units with the ability it's giving you, and then give the unit back to computer. At least I think that's how he's doing it.

It could just be a wait-operated cycle, it'd definitely work.
Elemental Resistances, Physical Resistances, and Mental Resistances will be added to the map with each passing enemy unit I use as a spawn.
I finished DDB on 3rd continant.
I am now experementing on a few triggering systems for spells and effects.

What do you have in mind?
QUOTE(WoodenFire @ Nov 29 2005, 10:24 AM)
Well... It will definitely not be hard. Its simple forking of conditions for slightly different actions. No big deal compared to some of the boss AI systems.

How would it not be hard it seems like one of those things that would be hard to pull off

Sounds fun but Mental resistance??? that sounds kinda gay no offenseQUOTE

Not really hard, just uses different triggers for it to happen (assuming it uses death counts:
Death count 1 normally goes to 120 (10 seconds, it also makes sure no enemies with weaknesses are there or it might not go on long enough)
Since enemy has resistance, instead it just goes to 60 (it detects if unit with reistance is there and death count is at least 60)
At least this is 1 possible method of doing it, he may be doing it a different way.

That's for spells like confusion, where it isn't really an element but something to do with the mind.
Change the name to a better sounding phrase like psyche resistance.
Mental just sounds weird because of its other meanings, such as "crazy".
No where on the map will it list Elemental, Physical, or Mental resistances or weaknesses... It is simply by trial and error and expierence. Or a piece of information like...
"I heard Trolls where weak to mind control. They are very simple minded creatures and almost act like pets when convinced you have infinite supplies of food for them. Ha ha... I laugh at my own jokes... How sad is that? Ha ha!"
That would be a simple, unprofessionalized version of a speach quote someone would give to hint torwards a weakness.

Sounds good.
I like that idea.
Well if you do give hints then that would ruin the fun.
Good Idea.
so everytime i play it can i custimze a character in how many ways so far... and possible to skip your 20-30min starting thingy that you have?
I have 1 thing to say woodenfire. YOUR BLENDING IS NOOBISH COMPARED TO THE GUY MAKING THE "NEW RPG". but none the less this looks uber awsomeness!

Which RPG are you talking about? I've seen what Wooden has done so far Crescent Dyne and I'd rate it 10/10 myself (regardless of how much I screwed with him when giving immediate feedback
). You really can't get any better than "seamless".

Woah, you have no idea what you're talking about. First off, what RPG are you referring to. Secondly, you have absolutely no right to say his terrain is noobish compared to anything. I've never seen any extended terrain on your maps. And i doubt you know how hard it is to make blends. Also, when have you ever seen his map (the file, not screenshots) that gives you authority to make a general statement about the terrain? So untill you've seen his map, tried blending yourself, and actually show some "better" blends you can say nothing.
EDIT: If you're referring to Ascending RPG (Only one i saw with "New RPG" in title) then you're greatly mistaking. Woodenfire let Reflektor use his terrain lol
QUOTE
Woodenfire handed me the terrain.
And even if reflektor changed it around. There's sprites in it. In this rpg (Wooden's) there's from what i've seen 0 Sprites, and perfectly blended.

The towns/mini towns are not on the islands themselves, but on a seperate part of the map correct?
No, the towns are connected with the rest of the terrain.
wow, resistance..thats gonna be something to see, i love the idea.
Ok, im back. Read some threads to catch up. I got warned by Rantent... how ironic.
I thank Offical Testers for helping answer some questions to the best of their ability. You guys did a fine good job filling in for me.
Now with Continant 3 done, I will now start from an already identified as 20% complete, Continant 2.
My extended terrain student, Ghost-, has left the terrain making community and SC. He was approaching the summit of my abilities by learning my terrain blends, and simply, exceeding the ablicational abilities I have accomplished. A truely masterful terrain maker. After his leave, I will be open to the idea of recruiting another single student. Don't both asking for this in this thread, your answer will be no. Meet me in person on Starcraft Broodwar on WoodenFire@USEast. I will show some of his maps to testers if you would like to see how good he really was. I would give his terrain a 9/10, just 1 point off because of rocky dirt wasn't custom and instead, cut-offs. Which, when I told him, removed it all next game and was going to use my DDB version of the custom rocky dirt after doing some terrain research and finding mine was extensive enough for his purposes. Amazing terrain setups, amazing detail, just... Blend after blend of collaboration. Pieces that just flow together and he tried to use every blend he could, on each ramp. He was a major custom ramp maker. Invented some of the ramp blends I use in Crescent Dyne, collaboratively of cource... He should be remembered as one who definitely had the ability to surpass his teacher.
Now, lets get to the bad news. I have a research paper due in 2 days and I must catch up with 350 pages of reading. In addition to this, I need to paint some rooms in my house. All in 2 days. I might not get too much done, but I definitely would like to continue my Offical Testing coverage for some of the basic questions. If encounter some future questsions on future events/systems in the RPG that you are not sure of, please just leave a short PM for me to read and I will just address it when I return. I am hoping for a snow day on Monday.
Sad, and I never did meet this Ghost-.
Rantent =0, hows it goin!

Wow, must be small towns then...
yo sup wood this is Son) you told me to come check out your rpg and it looks awsome...really....awsome
Khaos... on topic please...
I need some heavy imput for dramatic introduction scenes... like birds flying over in a flock, as you zoom into the nature aspect and then into the parilous wars... good movie type stuff which help alot~
Thx.
Hmmm... if you want some kind of nature aspect, I wouldn't do birds. Flying animals are rather hard to do with StarCraft. There's Scourges, but they just "don't look right" to me.
Kaks might work.
I would use an image of nature, a forest, then a lake, calm music, then the music goes low and goes to this beatufiul scene with lots of animals, and a ravaging horde comes and makes battle with knight-like guys. The music goes to war opera, the people kill each other, and it switches to another scene of destruction, towns being burned, civvys being killed, etc. Finally, it shows an image of the heros, in the middle of a ruined town. They movie ends and displays the title text on a black screen.
Kaks always seemed to be GIGANTIC to me... I mean, they're the size of a Dropship! Look out below!
Hmmm... maybe a forest scene, animals peacefully grazing... then BOOM! War-drum beat sounds. Another beat, and animals run off, Kakarus scatter from the trees, etc. Infantry and large artillery (capapults, war elephants, w/e you want.
) march through the forest.
The army arrives at a town, only to find it burning, ruined etc, but no trace of the enemy. There is silence for a few seconds, then suddenly an arrow is fired and the General is killed. Enemy soldiers run screaming onto the battlefield and the army enters a massive fight.
Drum beat.
Cut to: Naval ships arriving at a shore.
Drum beat.
Cut to: Artillery besieging a town.
Drum beat.
Cut to: Demons inhabiting a ruin.
Drum beat.
Cut to: Building being destroyed as demons pour into a town.
Fade to black.
[Crescent Dyne]
Fade to black.
[Dramatic Statement]
Fade to black.
Begin game.
There's my idea for an intro.
The sequence for the real introduction will be much more complex and will have character forks for each character that you can choose.
Good ideas though. Perfectly vivid in my mind...
I would now like some imput for mercinarys. Remember, random spells and such. No siege/burrow = anything.
