As I've stated before I dont have the time or motivation to do that. If you want to, then go visit the automod thread in the concepts forum and start getting people to help you out with it.
But as for right now, this is a simple solution to a simple problem.
So...do you ever plan to make this a big release to the public? Becuase Tarh is right, it's not easy to get people on Battle.net to even open up a browser window. Especially if your map says, "Can't hear the sounds? Go to
http://www.staredit.net/osf to fix that!"
Even with the short URL, think about it, would
YOU do it if you had no clue about SEN?
Most likley not.
Wait a second, with this, if someone who doesn't have the patch file, and downloads a map to play on b.net, wouldn't it crash them because it would try to play a non-existent sound?
And you don't think people will start questioning what OSF is when they see more and more maps using it?
Seriously though, make maps for it and you will grab their attention. The more they see it the more they will go for it.
EDIT: Vodka, no it won't. If the sounds don't exist then they will not play. Simple as that.
I love this idea but how will you send the sounds on B.net or do you have to come to SEN and DL the sounds...
I think this Idea is Amazing and Should Be Used!!!
You have to DL them from SEN. Thats what PM'ed autoupdates are for.
Why not make a program to download and update for you?

BTW, Great idea chuiu_os!
Missing MPQ sounds WILL crash. I've learned this first hand.
Noone answered me when I said that I want to know the MPQ sounds location...

Show me a map where you claim it does.
Hmm, I'm wondering: if you load patch_rt into memory, and it contains a hundred megs of wavs, would it risk overloading memory? Not sure how it works exactly, but I do know one of the reasons automodding would be difficult is because you need to have the changed mpq before starcraft loads first. At least, to my understanding.

Does this count?
My map that quits. Or is this something different?

ADDITION: Ok thanks I thought it was something different, and theres no sense posting again just to thank you.

You can also modify sounds.lst in the Starforge data file to include these sounds. Even put them into a OSF folder!
If you didn't want to use Starforge or SCMDraft to do this (although I'd highly recommend that) you could modify the listfile for SCFreeSounds and use it with SCXE/SE.
To Tux: I wouldn't worry about it too much. The files won't get expanded until they're actually used.

You deleted the string also. So the playwav(); function is looking for a string which does not exist! That is sure to crash the game everytime! Many people know about this! Observe, I placed a string, just a random string, and it works fine now. Since there is no sound file at "Press start!" (

) then it will not play the sound file and will do nothing!

lol, people sure like to cling to their misinformation (yes I mean that in general). No wonder it's so hard to get progress around here. This is exactly why I'm afraid of spending the time and energy to make an automodder program.
I'm studying up on MPQ specs right now. Lets see if I can't make an auto-update program.

or actually talk to Stwong if you know who that is, he'll provide you with much more assistance.
beyondirc #staralliance is his chat room.
well it didnt work for me. could somebody help me out with that later?
If you still can't figure it out post in the MMA forum. I'm sure there are several people would be able to help you, including me (of course).
an auytoupdater would work liek this:
-you could set it to turn on everytime you tuern on your computer.
-when it turns on, it checks(once only i suggest, or you might lag their computer) for updates.
-if there is it asks you to dl.
-you push yes, and do something else while it Dls...
thast basically all you need...also, if you want it better, make it a self extracting file(open make a code that oepns it) and places it in the approprite folders.
Wow thanks axblader you are a mountain of information!
Sorry ... seriously though, I already know exactly what I need to do and I have the resources to do it.
Well GL with it. If you make it, I'll use it.
How does this work out for us Mac users? I don't believe that the patch file goes by the same name. And what if we make awesome maps and 80% of battle.net didn't download the OSF?
Well the only way to remedy that would be to warn the players or simply find a way prevent the map from working without OSF. Dunno how you'd do something like that, though.
Just tell them where to get OSF. That's it!
Also, I dont have a mac so I can't possibly help any mac users with this. If someone wants to step up and work on the mac version I would be glad to help them all that I can.
