Therefore, I was suggesting we have a one or two people who are told the vague ideas and specific triggers to put in. That way, those with this "job" can put the triggers in quickly so we don't waste time!

Sounds like a good idea. If needed we can assign people triggers to make, and then give them limitations on units and switches they can use to make those switches needed. Then, we can just transfer it back into the map.

When trying to make it specifically for your Link, you forgot one thing; all the other links will see it on their screen too! Just like in the normal game of SC, where if positioned correctly, you can have units under the mineral and gas pictures, the other links could stand under your heart containers and see it.

Hmm, yes true. Doesn't kill my thought process though! I have a way to solve this as well. How? Well, more complex triggers can be made. A 20 x 12 location can be the location that always allocates itself in the center of the screen. There will be 4 of these, because there are four players. Now, if another player enters a different players area we could do a number of things. The first is make the hearts dissapear all together. However, that has obvious flaws to the person playing. Now the next is to rearrange the hearts on the screen, so you see your hearts, and the other persons hearts, however they will not interfere with you. Instead, if they are on your area of the screen, we can make a little glowing effect with explosions to show whose are whose. Or, we could use observers and avoid the whole mess. Both solutions could solve the problem, but they raise little inconveinences that would have to be smoothed out.

Snipe I put you in, but I couldn't Dl ur map u Pm'ed me, I don't know why. Also, everyone the site is almost done.

The hearts as units idea sems nice, but I think it is just extra work for a more or less useless feature. Now while if we spend enough time perfecting it, it may be interesting, I still think it would get in the way of the actual game more then it would help it.

Also, by virtual HUD I mean an actual HUD. I used the incorrect terms for it since it is no way some "virtual" thing, it would be an actual HUD using the gas and vespene spots for minerals and hearts.

This may not be the greatest idea, but what if we used supply as health. We could use hatcherys since they only add 1 supply, and create a zergling for every half heart, but this would greatly reduce the amount of units available for the map.

Oh yeah! I forgot all about the protoss, terran, and zerg unit symbols that appear at the top right of the screen! If we used those, we would have enough to take care of Hearts, Amount of Bombs you have, Amount of Arrows, Rupees, and anything else. We would have 5 to work with instead of 2. That could really solve all the problems.

Also I don't think the unit creation thing would be such a big deal, because chances are units would only spawn when you were in that area.

I received your map, playing it now, looks very nice...
Also, site should be up in a day or two.

How about... this sounds interesting, but won't be completed. SC has too many limits to make this kind...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SuperToast on 2005-06-25 at 01:56:25
No, something will be completed it depends on the timeframe. With the combination of a mod and a map there are very few limits we are left with. Given enought ime we can do a whole lot of coool stuff.

Ok, I kinda lost interest of reading every word around the end of page 2 (but not lost interest in this project!!)

Mod in my opinion is best because (as Toast has already done) you can change terrain and units, attacks, spells, whatever.

Also what would be good, is you could just edit stat_txt.tbl instead of editing the unit names, saving many strings. And you could just mod in all the units stat so all you would need to do in the actual map is locations, triggers and briefing, placing, and the lobby screen (Scenario Properties and Forces).

Also, I believe you can edit the control pannel with modding, so it would be more Zelda-ish.
Also using cmdicons.grp you can customize the buttons, making it even better biggrin.gif
And you can fix the cursor *keeps going on about things you could fix and make more Zelda-ish*

But now, my question is: would people really want to download a mod just to play a (pwnage) map?

... While typing that I thought of an answer...
I believe it is possable to replace the campaigns. You could just replace one of them, and make it so it says that.
Or make more maps to fit the mod biggrin.gif

Wow, all this modding stuff is making life hard for me... I think I'll stay out of the modding part and work on the actual MAP-MAKING instead of MOD-MAKING. =)

Remeber, there's also leaderboard stuff to show "extra items etc" if needed (or kills or exp etc.)

I like the idea of 1/2 hearts with supply, but you STILL cannot see 0.5 on supply!!! That brings up a question; can you mod .5 supply into Starcraft? Considering that we all know that one zergling is 1/2 supply, of course.
Speaking of supplies, will there be a function where they choose which race goes with which supply for a specific item?

Also, what's the site called? happy.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sniper on 2005-06-25 at 18:35:41
Well, we would obviously try to use zerg since its more flexible with hatcheries only supply 1 supply. Also, we wanna try to use the zerglings for half heart
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SuperToast on 2005-06-25 at 20:06:19
Allright. We don't need to use zerg because we can mod any unit to give/require any number of supply we want. As far as I can tell SC can not increment supply in halfs. In the zerglings case, it is counted as one becuase there are two per egg. You can not set something to independently require only .5 supply.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sniper on 2005-06-25 at 20:13:25
So, I guess you could mod every unit to 0 supply, and have just 1 unit as 1 or 2 or w/e we want.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SpiralEdge on 2005-06-26 at 06:55:05
Yes, and don't forget, that just because we can't make .5 supply, doesnt meant we cant move up a decimal and tell the player that 15 actually means 1.5. Ya know? Or 5 means half a heart. Since most zelda games only have a max of around 20 hearts, it would work perfectly. If I have 8 hearts, and 4.5 hearts were wasted in that last extreme boss battle, then I would have 35/80 in the unit supply. Doing this could even mean... well not quarters, but we could certainly do 5ths.

As for the site, its almost done, I have been slacking. Also I am just about to start the actual coding for this map. The map I am currently making is getting people interested as well, so I don't want to dissapoint. From there I'll raise forums. I guess I will talk to an admin here at SEN, to see if we can get are own forum area for the team, if not I can make one. It would honestly be easier to post on SEN, but we will see what the future can hold.

I tried looking around for more images and textures, but I couldn't find any. Do you think you could point me in the right direction to were I can find some more images. I'd prefer them to be from the same game, (and preferably the same one as the link from the previous batch you gave me). I realized that I was using textures from btoh the games you gfave me and the aspect ratios were not lining up right. So what I'm looking for it more terrain and any unit sprites (bad guys, good guys, bushes, bosses, chests), anything that I might be able to put in as a unit.

In a second I will email you again with more images, but also, if you want to find out where I got those from, just try going to RPG Maker sites and going to the resources sections on them. I used to be in those communities so I have many many many pixels and sprites etc, etc. I'll e-mail you some more of them now.

If you want it to be like origional zelda, Instead of having a location being centered on a unit and center vision on that you could make a grid and center it on the grid and when you leave the grid [Lets say you exit above it], it centeres it on the grid above it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mr.Kirbycode774 on 2005-07-03 at 00:39:08
I talked to them about that, but they decided to do it like "A Link to the Path" instead of the original zelda. I think it might be 30x18 as the grid size. (possibly)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sniper on 2005-07-03 at 01:46:11
Whats the point of that? the screen only goes up to 20x12
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mr.Kirbycode774 on 2005-07-04 at 01:15:19
Oh oops, I should've explained better. pinch.gif
The screen centers on the unit, then with multiple gridding systems it will detect when you get to the edge of this 30x18 grid, making the screen stop moving (just like in Link to the Past)

In other words, the screen centers on the unit, but not the grid. Understand?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SuperToast on 2005-07-04 at 01:31:30
I don't specifically understand what you mean kirby.

I was under the impression that we would have the map more or less organized into a set of tiles with the screen being centered on each one, then once you reached the edge, it would slid to the next one.

Well first of all, Zelda is in the Time long time ago, and starcraft is in the way future, i to have always wanted a zelda game, but the closer i got to realisticness of the actuall zelda game, it actually seemed more silly because it just doesnt fit starcraft
