Well it depends on what kind of message I get from it, if the person is being is being arrogant then even if their point was correct it doesn't mean I will respect them.

I disagree alot. If someone goes "OMG U STUPID DUMB ****!!1!!111!! YOU ****ING ****TY UN-1337 N0RB!!!1!!1!1!!" and you flame back, yea...

But if someone (ESPECIALLY someone you know...) starts getting all personal, you have to strike back. Usually quit right after you say it. (Just a 2 or 3 word insult)

I think there are two kinds of flames, the first is just a retarded piece of spam with no meaning, most of the time in all caps. Then there's the kind where you just call someone stupid and insult them, even if they deserve it. The first one is mostly done by noobs and the second is mostly done by more intelligent people that are still flaming.

Flaming isn't just a direct insult like most of you think. It's any form of degrading another person. Thats the first problem with flamers, they don't know what can be labeled as a flame.

Some types of indirect flames can be tolerated like: "Haven't you read the first post? It clearly states this idea and you go in the opposite way, I can't believe how ignorant some people can be". This is acceptable.
Now this isn't: "How is it possible for you to have not understood that? Are you like mentally retarded or something?"

Instead of just saying: "You are an (insert insult) because blah blah blah", why not just say: "You are wrong because insert reasons with proof of those reasons".

There are many different ways to change a flaming expression into being a well put together post. Instead of flaming someone for a short 5 minute pride, writing a post that says"I think you are basing your opinions in a wrong way because of reasons" would be far better in the long run. Your reputation would go up higher than defending yourself with a flame, people would actually look forward to your posts and you'll have better chances of being chosen for something say Moderator.

I mentioned in one of political discussion about how 17 pages later, we were still all arguing that "Bush is bad. However..." bull. Now we're all saying. "Flaming is bad...however..." bull. There is no god damn reason to degrade a person. What he said was not directly related at you, and its true; many times I give verbal warnings for people saying something like "well, that's alright. I wouldn't think someone like you could understand." that is a little more blatant than what I'm used to, but when I verbally warn them (over PM, usually) I get this type of arguement back: "I'm only saying that since he lives in the Suburbs there's no way he could know what I'm going through!" that's segregation, and that's putting yourself "holier than thou."

But that's what it has come down to. "Its alright to flame idiots for being idiots." or "I only flame dumbasses." So? This is coming from the only people here who report flames. There are one or two other people who have not argued that case, and although when you do report the flames and they are valid, its still bull that you have this 'holier than thou' complex in that you can flame the idiots, but they can't flame you.

They do flame, and in most cases, before I do.

Just because someone flames you means you HAVE to flame them back? It somehow puts you on a religious crusade to defend your honor? Try applying this to real life. Someone hits you, you hit them. This keeps going on... and guess what, somebody is DEAD. If you like putting a 50/50 on your survival every time someone gets you pissed off, you really need to rethink yourself. I don't segregate people based on their lack of knowledge. I don't say, "Oh I wouldn't expect you to know this because..."

And that whole "I only flame idiots for being idiots" means first they fail to see what is going on in the thread, they are arguing over something trivial, the answer is right in front of their eyes yet they don't want to admit they are wrong, and they are repeating the same thing over and over, and they start flaming. That's when I label someone an idiot.



It depends on how idiotic the person is being, and how simple the argument is and how unnecessary it is.

I'm sure repeated flaming and profuse swearing will always enlighten the "idiot". If you want to know something and you're confused by the responses and simply get "hey you're f*cking stupid b*tch" every time you ask again, you sure aren't going to learn anything.
