Movies shouldn't be scary. It isn't like when you are watching the movie you are in any danger... so I'm never afraid pinch.gif

I thought that fear.com was the scariest movie of all time. I wish the movie: Doom, was as scary as the game but it turned out 50% horror; 50% hilarious.

Why do people think fear.com is scary? It's not, it's lamer than the ring.

figures that move and talk but have no other emotions or facial expressions ARE scary
if you watch a Barney episode without the sounds, you might know what im talking about

Boogeyman = Nearing the end, they set up potential for him to be insane and actually be the boogeyman and not know it (The blood on the bath tub, the guys shooting him with the nail gun)

The Grudge = Random slaughter, not scary.

Saw = Never saw, but heard about it. Sounds like another gorefest.

The Ring = Wierd, but not especially scary.

The Ring 2 = After the Ring, why would I see this?

Signs = This was supposed to be a horror movie? Wow...

The Village = Had great, great potential until the first 'twist'. Every twist just made it more and more stupid.

Darkness Falls = Never saw it.

Anyone seen "The Thing" from the the early 80's. I know it's a remake, and don't give me that, "Oh I hate remakes just because they're remakes." The original of it was an old black and white movie, and the monster was a completely different. The monster in this is insane. I forgot who did the make up effects, but I applaud them.

There are a few things I can knit pick about it, but I still give it a 10 out of 10. It's my personal favorite horror flick.

Another movie I saw, was high tension. It was kicking ultra ass for a while, until the ending. At first glance, it pissed me off. At 2nd glance, it pissed me off even more. And that at 3rd glance, I was getting ready to break something. But finally, at 4th glance, I stood up and gave it a salute.

The thing that bugs me about remakes though is that it doesn't show much thought was put into it. Usually it's inspired by seeing the movie and wanting to just touch it up from a bit to a lot.

I agree with you very much on The Thing. It's the last horror movie I saw that genuinely terrified me (I was 9 or 10, but it was still SCARY!). I can still think really hard about what it must have been like to be one of those guys at that station and get creeped out. Rob Bottin was the special effects guy. He's done alot of movies.

Plus, the animatronics and special make up look waaay cooler than the CGI stuff. I agree with Holysin on the CGI bashing. The only movie that did CGI right, in my opinion, was the first Jurassic Park. And it was THE FIRST to employ alot of it, heheheh.

Very true, but The Thing isn't a true remake. It's way more faithful to the original short story than the first "Thing" movie was.

I also really love the original Exorcist, the first two Alien movies, and I liked Signs (although when I saw it for the first time, my son had just gotten out of the hospital for breathing problems, so that probably spiced up my anxiety), but I agree with everyone about the ending, it was a bit of a let-down.

I saw a movie recently that was really scary, although it's not a horror film. Has anyone seen "Deliverence"? It is what I would call an ADULT horror movie. If you see it while you're young, you might be interested in the action of the movie, but you'll fail to see how terrifying it actually is. If you haven't seen it, then I'd advise waiting til you're 18 or older before you see it (and watch it alone). You have to have something to lose before you'll see just how scary that movie is. I'd heard it was intense and I'd meant to get around to seeing it for several years but just never did. I'm glad I didn't see it until I was 20, because I don't think I would have felt so scared had I seen it when I was younger. It was made in 1972 and it still holds it's water.

So Holysin, what horror movies do you really like? We've all heard which ones you don't like, but how bout revealing the ones that won your favor?

Ah yes, horror movies that I actually liked. Though I do criticize many new ones, doesn't mean I hate them. For instance, I enjoy both Saw I and II. As cheesy as this one is, Wrong Turn. That's seriously one jacked up movie. High Tension was pretty enjoyable. Although Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal were not scary, I still appreciated the movies. There are actually many more, but I have a problem remembering their names.

I notice that almost every horror movie has a "The ---"
something like
The Ring
The Grudge
The House of Wax
and many more
