Yeah, SCMD unit placement owns, the nice 50% size grid makes placing units like powerups on 1x1 squares so simple. I do use it for unit placement happy.gif

I've played around with SCM Draft at a friend's house a few times (I am a mac user, so no advanced editors are available), and I have to say it's pretty damn awesome.

Like, really awesome + 5,674

You know, theres an avanced editor for macs called StarFire.

StarFire Editor

It's practially equal to Xtra editor.

I'm currently changing between SCXE and SCMDraft 2. Most of the times am using SCMDraft 2, except for the triggering part in which I return to SCXE Base Mode. happy.gif
And that is solely because I haven't handled that well with the compiling triggers part in SCMDraft already. tongue.gif

I just don't use SF that much, since it has corrupted a map of mine in the past and my only escape was to have kept a replay of it and then converted back the *.rep file into a map. pinch.gif

But imho, there isn't a ultimate map editor and allow me to quote an aqquaintace of mine from other site.
QUOTE(UED77 at WB's (in an old reference to initial map editors @ including SCMDraft 1))
There is no single answer. Those who give you one are either inexperienced or too biased. SCMDraft is probably the best tool for terraining, but it lacks triggers. For that, use either StarEdit or SCXE. Starforge should be your choice if you either wish to manipulate triggers as if they were plain text, or if you would like to place units that snap to a customizable grid. You can even enter the coordinates in the unit dialog to move the unit to another place.

As someone would say... "To Ceasar, what belongs to Ceasar." In sums and if you haven't graped what was saying, they all have their top skills when compared to another, but in average opinion they're all dandy.
And that's the closest I'll ever get into forming an opinion over SC (map) editors over a debate, although I have my favourites. wink.gif

i have to go with scmdraft, but i really must use starforge to do somethings.

but i really need both to make maps, but i voted for scmdraft.

You need SF to do what?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-11-02 at 23:51:34
Starforge still has the best trigger editor. It's been debated, but I can't get my mind around the completely illogical syntax of TrigEdit.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by LegacyWeapon on 2005-11-03 at 00:04:31
It's only illogical because you've been using SF syntax.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-11-03 at 00:30:26
No, SF syntax makes sense; you can logically construct a sentence from

Accumulate(Current Player, AtLeast, 10, Ore);

as opposed to whatever it would be in TrigEdit.

In TrigEdit:
Accumulate("Players", At least/At most/Exactly, Resource Amount(#), Resource Type);

I see no difference?

I like starforge cause its much better like the sprites and all
and you cant do that on x-tra editor.

It seems similar to me. happy.gif And it's almost granted that you already know this, but the "trigedit help.txt" file that comes within the SCMDraft 2 pack sheds a swell amount of light into the old TrigEdit plugin syntax (not considered the more recent Classic one, for obvious reasons wink.gif).

I would say Scmdraft since:

• Easier to set up
• Less buggy (the few bugs there is dont cause problems in maps)
• Saves alot more time in everything except triggers and copying terrain
• Less likely to crash at any given moment

StarForge+SCXE+üBeR@TiOn = Pwnage.

I also am working on scripts for an editor (But while I do not have Visual Studios or something like that I am just playing around in JavaScript tongue.gif)

True, only have one file.
StarForge only corrupts when you do something wrong.
StarForge has little shortcuts and things that can make certain things faster.
StarForge only crashes when you do something wrong.

OK, then whats wrong with 16-bit sounds?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Joshgt2 on 2005-11-08 at 15:39:28
Can't StarCraft only play 8 bit sounds in the game? I think so... But the game can only hold so much at a time that maybe 16 bit sounds are too much for it...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2005-11-08 at 16:23:50
Uh, no.

Staredit is 16-bit compatible. 8-bit sounds take more space and are in worse quality, because staredit can't compress them. How can SC play only 8-bit sounds while staredit, support only 16-bit sounds? And it is only SF bug. All other editors support 16-bit sounds but SF doesn't.

edit: made this post less of a flame

Not quite. SCMDraft 2 has for a while now a "copy-paste" layer that allows ya to copy everything since terrain to units from one place to another in a couple of easy steps (exception to this rule of thumb are locations). happy.gif

Care to elaborate a tad more upon these? Especially point 2 (about shortcuts, that is), since I suspect that these are the customized brushes. ermm.gif

I do recall a serious map of mine crash that didn't allowed the map to even be opened in other editors. And just to be on hte safe side, I used to have SF's settings to mimic the Staredit ones. But it crashed anyway, making me lose an almost finished map. pinch.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by saibaman8 on 2005-11-11 at 12:18:43
it still will only crash and corrupt files when you do something wrong. the only crash i've ever come in contact with in starforge is when you resize the trigger window so that the controls would have a negative size. but why would you want to do that anyways?

point 2 in that is talking about triggers. it has auto-completion, which i like a lot. for example, you want to make a condition accumulate(p1, atleast, 42, ore);. all you would have to type is ac(p1, atl, 42, o); and auto-complete fills in the rest as you go.
