I prefer to smoke bud with my buddies and not care about what categories others fit into, although it's rather fun to pick on nerds.

As long as you guys keep talking about geek/popular classes then they will jsut keep going on.
At my school we don't have any of that crap. You are either outgoing or your not. Non-outgoing people play cards by themselfs at lunch, while every one esle (seriously its like 2/10 of the people are non outgoing at my school) talks to each other. We are all friends at my school, its just if you don't put your self out there you won't get any friends...

Dictionary.com isn't the end-all definition for things. The way most people see it, geek is a more... socially adept... term for 'nerd'.
My school is the top public school in Quebec. (Basicaly, a private school that costs less.) Personaly, I fit in with every crowd except the stonners. My school is over 25% azn. When I want to talk video games or have ds wifi battles during class, Ill go to them. When I want to punish some kids, ill play football on the back field at lunch. I get invited to most of the parties so I think that I've found a balance between both worlds. Yes thats right, I play AAA football, go to the gym AND I'm willing to go to bestbuy at 10:00 in the morning to be the first one in my school to own a ds lite and I plan to do the same for the wii. There are alot of internet cafes near my school so the azn crew and I go and Cs it up.
You're either a freakin "GANGSTAAA", a "geek", a "popular", ie, the gay rich kids who only talk to eachother and go out to buy a suit on weekends when they're not horseback riding, and the "SkATRZ!!" or punks who act lik the world gives half a freak that they are "non conformist"...or the emo's...my school has much less emo, but w/e, thats a good thing to me, i dont care.
Or the kids who are really the popularish type, but they act lik htey're cool with everyone till it comes around to bite them in the ass.
Or me, the kid who's between gangsta, geek and skater....but I have classes with "popular" kids that I wanna shove a shotgun into the back of their asses...
but just going geek v popular? geek > popular ; )
And someone will soon start a massacre again...
In my school the groups are normally divided into color and how smart you are.
The social groups in my school are Jocks, Goths, Heavy Metallists, Geeks, Loners, Female Dogs, Preps, Girls that sleep around. Some others, when I get really into detail.
Girls that sleep around = You can think of the word that people normally use for this.
Is nymphomaniac censored to that?
Oh, that's the word
Wow, my school realy doesnt have this issue. Everyone just fits together except some of the shy loner type of people.
Ya, same here. There was only the hardcore lotr nerds, and the really popular kids. 95% of everyone else, was in the middle.
I live in a rather neutral place. I never see "popular" kids pick on "nerds". In fact, I never really see them. I don't really have a place in the school hierarchy. I hang out with many people depending what time of the year it is or who is there or who is not there.
Populars always pick on nerds and Geeks. It so scary that if your a geek and you ask a Popular girl out to be your Girl-friend they will aim with such power and strike you in the testicals.
I go to the
Boston Latin School,
the oldest school in the U.S. It's a public school, but because of a relatively hard entrance exam, you have to be of at least moderate intelligence to attend. There is absolutely no stoner culture nor any true jock culture. (For some reason intelligence frequently doesn't accompany athletic prowess.)
Thus, although there are definitely geeks and popular kids, the distinction is probably much looser than it would be at other schools. Furthermore, at any other school, many of the "popular" kids would most likely be considered "geeks." So although I'm probably not as attuned to this heated battle as others, I will still try to comment:
Perhaps at the heart of the matter lies jealousy. The populars are jealous of the geeks' intelligence (for the sake of this post we'll assume that for the most part the populars aren't as intelligent) and realize that one day the geeks may enjoy greater monetary success. The geeks, meanwhile, are jealous of the populars' popularity and the jealousy becomes a neverending loop which does nothing but separate people who might even be quite compatible given the right circumstances.
Maybe this quote can sum up the predicament.
QUOTE
I was an outsider. While I looked for validation from my fellow contemporaries, I instead found jealousy and envy. I did not find team spirit. This led to dissatisfaction, an unease.
Both sides, albeit the geeks a bit more, feel like outsiders because they are all being shunned by
someone.
id say im pretty antisocial in some ways more then other. i am quite a shy person upon meeting new people so i dont talk much when im around people i dont know. where as in a group of friends ive known for a while i am one of the more sociable people there. as for popular and geeks thing there is the opinion where popular people will be poor and geeks will end up rich. not always true. im sure you are all familiar with the name 50 cent. looking at his history im sure he wasn't a geek and im not entirely sure about his childhood popularity, but he still ended up rich.
social status at a high school age means nothing because afterwards its not just 1000 people in the same environment everyday that you have to know to be sucessfull. as for being intelligent it also does not go far after school, what use is there in knowing lots of equations, literature and other skills we learn in school where in "the real world" it is more practical experience.
my opinion is that people who keep to themselves and don't worry what others think of them and are NOT biased to others will be more succesfull because they will be able to adapt to the work environment aswell. and intelligence is the same thing, if you are amazing at all the logical work but lack in the practical experiences you will have a harder time adapting to somebody that is evened out in both ways.
As for people like 50 cent who had nothing at birth and turned to hustling and then into a multi platinum rapper they just got lucky and it is proof that intelligence does not allways beat popularity.
anyone who feels like arguing the case take it up with a pychiatrist or something because i don't care its my opinion and my opinion is not part of any criteria and can not be judged through intelluctual debate or flame.
well I read like the first two pages im not bother with the rest...
at my school I am very socialy unstable because a couple populars dont like me....a couple populars think im the coolest kid ever...and the rest are undecided....
I don't know what kind of label you'd give me I have friends from every social level and I have enemys or haters in each...

Yes, but that only happens to very few people.

You must not know how the educational system works then. Good grades gets you to university and university gets you a high paying job. If you get bad grades, your not getting past high school. Have fun being a janitor or a garbage man.

Its comon sense to know that you need good grades in school.

Actually I got bad grades due to laziness. I never cared enough to raise them. I still managed to get my high school diploma, and now I work as a production assistant in Los Angeles for a little over $100 a day. So I guess it depends on the person. I do know plenty of people who got bad grades and never dropped out who now do nothing with their lives and probably wont do anything ever.
And on the topic of popularity and geekdom, I find myself to be a bit of both. I'm a film-loving geek who made enough films in school film festivals to garner a certain spec of popularity.
Now that I'm out of high school, popularity does not exist. No one cares enough about any one to make them "popular."
My school is far too small to have a proper social structure. All of the groups around my age think they're cool (and, technically, they're all correct, because "cool" people are only "cool" because their peers say so), except for the nerds, who don't give a crap about anyone else and only get annoyed/teased by anyone else if they did it in the first place.
My high school was the complete opposite. We had about 5,000 to 6,000 students so no popular crowds really existed. I mean you had the jocks who hung out together and the pseudo-goths who hung out so these cliques existed, but people mainly had "cool" individuals within each group. There was no single person who every one knew.
My school is massive, and the geeks still far outrank, outnumber, and outclass the "popular" ones. I generally think that the reason for this is that all the really fun things to do get you classified as a geek. Being a jerk, narcissist, or rich are the qualifying traits of the popular folks.
Computers? Geeks.
Internet Games? Geeks.
All the fun card games? Geeks.
We win.
Poplular, Geeks, doesnt really matter both can contain good people and bad people. Judge people on thier self not thier clique.
1337 million years ago. There was a a planet that was ruled by children from the age 0 to 18. They lived in a civilized empire. There were computers and the most fun things you could imagine. It was all perfect untill a group of children stood out of the rest. They wanted to be smart, annoying and most of all weird. So then they eventually went to the darkest part of the planet to grow there new resistence. Eventually over time they populated. When the other people saw these ways and practices of the "geeks" they got angry. So in order to limit this factor one group chose to do the opposite of what they did. They got good looking clothes, talked in a cool way and even named other people who were like them popular. Soon the planet became 2 sides. A geek version and a popular version. After some time the populars were converting any remaining neutrals and the geeks were doing the same. And then time had it when the 2 groups got into a conflict. Since the populars had many jocks and athletics they defended there colonies but the geeks use mental warfare by hacking there computers with "Xors" files thus the word Haxors was born. And the populars made invitations and parties to discourage the geeks. So then a war began. The populars beat up the geeks untill they dropped an illusion bomb onto them. Seeing as the geeks were to over powered to fight the populars they chose to drop out of war and thats why most kids and teenagers want to belong into the popular group because they seem to have "more power" over the geeks. But the geeks know that they must live with the populars anyway and soon many other "cliques" or groups formed like Loners, nerds and punks and goths. So even though this very day popular people treat geeks with low respect they will still remember who has more power as the ruler of the planet was infact a geek who said in another 1337 years a geek will be born. And this new ruler turned out to be Bill Gates the 2nd. (The first was the ruler of the older planet) Who has all the worlds money and founded microsoft and MSN which of course draws many populars to.
Now the history of the Noobs and the ubers....
Can you be both?? Like a popular 'nerd' lol... I mean, I think in a way I'm like that.
Anyone that says there are no jocks, or that the jocks at their school arent popular, is a popular who doesnt realize their own label. I personally hate to label people, however, in school we have our own way of how things work.
Kids that are funny, and athletic, are popular. Just being funny or just being athletic gets you no where. You also need to have no problem sleeping with all the popular school nymphomaniacs and must listen to rap music. If you dont, you cannot be popular. I live in rural northern NJ, and not to be racist, we have maybe 15 black/hispanic kids total in our school. 5 of them are in all seriousness mentally retarded. 5 of the other 10 make up the most popular kids in school. The other 5 are out casts because they have some sort of commen decency.
In my school, if you have morals, any self respect, self control, or taste in music, you cannot be popular.
A quote from a friends AIM, that clearly shows evolution is on its slow course:
A recent study shows that 98% of teens have gone "emo", if you dont give two craps about the 2% that are still "gangsta" white idiots, put this in your info.
