So you can't help SEN without having moderator? Why would IP undo the settings..? That doesn't make sense...
That's totally cool, so whats your point...?
So you're trying to say if you had the knowledge to before, you would have hacked SEN and taken it down? Nice
I never said not take help from you or anything, I said you shouldn't have moderator power... are you not willing to help SEN without it..?
SEN managed to live without your help before, not to say that your help isn't useful, and I still encourage you to go ahead and help.. but I just don't think you deserve moderator position... and again, you can help without moderator status...
Wow, I post slow..
The list of things i have caused a change in:
When a mysql error is shown, there is no longer an "advanced error" box, which allows hackers to view the mysql query. thus causing what is known as a "blind sql injection"
The shoutbox, when viewing a single shout, the shout ID number in the URL used to cause a mysql error if it is not a number. this can cause an sql query to be executed.
The underscore character is now being filtered so that a hacker cannot input _ into any data s/he submits towards SEN, foras it is turned in to it's equivilent entinity value for HTML.
Who ever doubted you helped with that stuff..?
and i have found 2 more sql injection points that require fixing.
IP will not reveal his intentions because apparently, it would defy the purpose of having those intentions. Something along those lines, I don't save my msn logs.
And has anyone noticed that IP is NOT posting in this topic anymore? Complaining will do little at this point.
Asking to be staff was at one time the way to never become staff.
If someone can answer this question, everyone will be happy:
What qualifications does he have of being a moderator?
No one can answer that, CheeZe.
I know. And it's been brought up.. not enough times. So I'm going to bring that up until someone answers it or someone on the other side says they cannot.
He has qualifications to moderate Computers & Technical via the skills he's shown. UMS Assistance, on the other hand...

I could, if I spent more time with SQL.
Probably Syndicate, SI, PieSniper, Doodle, etc.

But, there is more to moderating than knowledge of the subject given to the forum...
I've conversed with Pyro-Fire quite a few times, and I can't help but disagree with IP's decision. In my experience, Pyro-Fire was rude, unhelpful, insulting, ignorant, and spammish. Now, most of that was a while ago, and I don't know if he's changed since then, but that's what I know of him, and based on that I must dispute the appointment.
QUOTE(Pyro-Fire @ Jan 1 2007, 09:33 AM)
okay lets think about this for a minute.
if im not going to help out with sen's security.. who is? i mean, why doesnt ip just undo the changes he made because of me and let some "nobody" criplle sen's database.
and furthermore i could have taken sen down months ago... i just didnt have the knowledge to exploit it correctly.
if i did have the right knowledge, sen probably wouldnt be here today. even with all the backups.
so if someone else with the right knowledge were to get really pissed off with sen or ever want to hack sen... well, yeh. you can pretty much guess whats going to happen.
When v4 is gone, and we move onto v5, whos gunna help out then? i mean, the admins can be pretty good at coding for sen, but they aint perfect. whos going to find problems that can become a real security threat in the end? me. who else? well, i'd just love to hear someone who can hack into a starcraft hacking site (yes i have done that) that comes from SEN.

Rude, insulting, ignorant, egotistical, yeah... this post just about sums it up. You may be helping us, and I appreciate it and I'm not trying to cover it up, but you are not our guardian angel.

None! There, I answered it. Maybe not the answer you were looking for but.. i agree. maybe i should have a further chat with someone to learn how to deal with people (im obviously not very good at it as you can tell)
but plz dont go off at me, admitting i have a problem is the first step.
Well, giving moderator status to somebody who has those problems...
Not cool
I read the first two pages in detail, the rest was just the same recited junk over and over.
How about this? She is on trial for moderator as IP has declared (if those moderations have been removed already, I appolagize)
So my point is, despite what you all want, and what the truth of the matter is. She now moderates forums, on a temporary basis, no more is really needed on that topic.
Dear IsolatedPurity and everyone:
I am new to this community, but not unknown among some of you. I am not one for slander, but a recent PM bout with Pyro-Fire has rubbed me the wrong way. The end result was Pyro-Fire saying he was blocking me. That is his choice to make, but rude nonetheless considering no foul words were ever exchanged.
When I choose a moderator for my own forums, I look for someone with a high capacity for diplomacy and conflict-resolution, in addition to being level-headed and stable. I have always told my moderators that they are regular members just like everyone else, charged with the single duty of promoting a positive atmosphere. Anyone can edit, delete, or move posts, but to do so intelligently, maturely, and with tact is quite another feat.
You deal with people, not posts. There will be flame wars, there will be new users making mistakes, there will be posts that walk the line and a judgment call must be made, and so much more. You will have to settle disputes, calmly and respectfully explain how a new user has made a mistake and how to resolve the problem, and judge posts not on your personal preference or bias but on community merit as a whole, just to name a few.
The abilities of a moderator are a responsibility, not a privilege, which is why I never give moderatorship to those who ask. It is earned by keeping active, establishing a high level of respect in the community, and demonstrating the essential qualities the job demands.
Pyro-Fire's actions and reactions in the PMs do not demonstrate what I look for in a moderator. I do not see him as a good fit based on this, though I know the decision is not mine. However, IsolatedPurity has asked for the community's opinion, so I am giving mine.
IsolatedPurity, you know how I handle things when you were on the merger delegation at CampaignCreations. From what I've seen of Pyro-Fire's general posts on this forum, he represents himself well, if a little lacking in punctuation and spelling. Based on the PMs, though, I am led to question his maturity to handle the position of moderator.
At the very least, he needs extensive training and a reevaluation of his people skills. He must learn patience and be humble in his station.
Dear Pyro-Fire:
Honestly, I was mistaken, but in the very PM that says as much, you retorted that you weren’t going to “read all that junk” and were blocking me. As a member, whatever, do what you want. As a moderator, the action is rash, rude, and far from a mediator persona that moderatorship often requires. I would never support someone as moderator who acts like that.
Work on that, earn your place in this community with a solid foundation of respect, and my opinion may change. Until then, you have tarnished my view of you by how you handled the situation.
Make no mistake, I do not hold a personal grudge against you. The PMs are a matter that would have otherwise been dropped had this thread not existed and you were not being ushered into a position of power. This is a professional concern I am expressing, one in which my own posts would be subject to your jurisdiction. Based on the posts made here, apparently I am not the only one who feels this way.
I hope you can understand. Another guideline I give my moderators is to never moderate if you feel yourself emotionally temperamental. Just walk away until you cool off and can address the situation with a clear head and respectful attitude (even if they are the worst spammer/flamer/troll). I never accept the excuse that a moderator was “just having a bad day” or was “in a bad mood”. I demand stability in my moderators for this reason, and the insight to recognize their own emotional state and regulate it. We all get annoyed, angry, or heated, it’s human, but you need to have the willpower to pull yourself away before you say or do something you don’t intend.
This is the internet; it is a relatively easy thing to do compared to real-life. I expect exemplary behavior from my moderators, as they stand as examples of what is expected of the rest of the community. Lead by example, right?
Now the question is, are you capable of all this?
And the only way to answer is by showing it.
Sorry dude but that is total bull***t.
He is a moderator of Misc, Mod Assistance and UMS Assistance, If I am correct.
Private Messages are not a moderators "call of duty".
Maybe if he was a Global Moderator then you should complain, however he isn't. You said it yourself, they should also be "regular members" and "regular members" have the right to block Private Messages.
I don't even know if you understand what I am saying, but the bottom line is... you've not proven anything because he blocked your PM's

Shocko, can you not read?
Hercanic just provided proof that Pyro-Fire is rude, immature, and a host of other words. Why you can't realize that is beyond me. These are
not qualities for a moderator. I'm not saying I support this idea, but I'm translating it for your use, Shocko.

So let's let him. Let him prove himself. If he fails, he gets shot down. But let him try. If he slips up, he'll be dealt with. And as I said before, complaining here will do little to nothing towards any end. If it were up to me, this thread would be locked, because nobody is getting anywhere on either side. IP isn't even visiting the thread anymore, so its not like your arguments are going anywhere.
Pyro-Fire hasn't proven himself yet, nor has he proven that he is incapable of the job.
Let him try.How is blocking somebody on PM's rude and immature.
PM's are Private Messages -- Private for a reason, what goes on inside of them isn't really in moderators powers. (unless of course it is a form of harrasment, a form of threats or ethnic depiction)

which is why i wanted it to stay in pms. and not come out into the boards. the issue is between me and him. no one else.

Exactly. Anyone who says PMs are private is correct. However, if a moderator is rude, that would reflect on the website which is the equivalent of saying things like that in public.
If I a moderator says rude comments to me, I know I wouldn't like this place even if everyone else was helpful. The fact that he's on staff means anything he says, private or not (as long as it's through this forum) means it will reflect on this place.

PM's arent supposed to be read out to the public...
and also, this arguement started
before i was a moderator.... so, how can this possibly reflect on me being a moderator? its not my fault hes still angry that i blocked him. (well i assume so since he keeps bringing it up...)
so, can you all
PLZ stop talking about it. it was a personal arguement that i stopped by blocking him. end of story.
You are stupid to take one members actions and bias your opinion against the whole site due to their actions.
Except if it was the administrator, seeing as the administrator runs the site, it is his or her rules. Moderators enforce rules and clean the place up, not make rules.
