Dude the universe has been around forever so the actual big question is when did time start?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Helios on 2004-08-21 at 20:04:41
We all live in a 4 dimensional world, the 3 spatial or physical dimensions and time. Time and the universe is unseperable. When the universe started is when time started.

Nerdy if the universe has been around forever explain why there is so much evidence for the Big Bang ?

i belive on both theories, i like"God" set off the Big bang, knowing what would happen, he watched his universe grow

Then, he got a bit Xel'Nagaish, and started creating life, to see which being was the best.
Jesus was his attempt to correct our wrongs

But hes probally gicven up on us and made another race out there

I'm also 12 as well. -.-||
Anywayz, simply the big bang is just a theory on how the universe started, which is a very big explosion that started off much much smaller than the universe we know now. Then it started to expand rapidly and all the matter started to spread out. A clump of matter started to pull against each other and form planets and solar systems. Even now, the universe is still expanding - so therefore the distance of a faraway object cannot be directly obtained from just using the method of calculating using the speed of light because we have to take into account of the expanding universe. However, scientists use a method to figure out a star's distance from earth by observing the object at different times of the year, which is at different locations in the orbit of the sun. Anywayz, back to the Big Band theory ... all stars move away from each other but some scientists say one day this expansion will stop and eventually pull back together. I think this is called "the crunch". Time-Space will also be a bit different from what we see now due to the faraway things we see also coming closer while we see the light reflected off the image coming to us faster and faster (compared to the previous expansion).

if god was all powerful, why would he still allow such a evil race as humans to still exist? but I will believe in alien races creating us and are now studying us from a place very far away (for us). tongue.gif

Evolution is still a theory as well, never proved.

This is very misleading. In science, a theory isn't just a guess, it's supported with a ton of evidence. I hope you don't avoid taking antibiotics because it's based on Germ Theory, or that you don't trust cancer surgons because they rely on Cell Theory.

QUOTE
You all should consider yourselves lucky, we are on the ONE planet that has life

I wouldn't be suprised at all if there are other planets with life. I've heard we've discovered bacteria on Mars.

QUOTE
I'd have to say God because if the big bang did create the universe, then life, what are we supposed to do when we die? With religion, and the belief in God, we may have an afterlife. So i say God created life.

Ah, appeals to wishful thinking. Canvassing subscriptions with dubious arguments since 1 B.C.!

If there is a creator to the universe, he is very sadistic.

Geez... God can do anything with us, it's just he gave us free will...
I think all that talk about atoms and stuff aren't as complicated enough to create living, breathing, things that are so unique... I think there has to be a higher being...

I'm atheist, and I don't believe in free will. I believe that we are all subject to the stimuli we recieve. Nothing we do is really voluntary, but a reaction to something. And how can you have free will when your future can be predicted ahead of time? Like by God.

I also believe, that if there is a God, he's a pretty sick bastard if he created me, knowing well ahead of time that I wouldn't believe in him (being the omniscent entity that he is), and then sends me to Hell and uses my nonbelief in him as a justifiable reason to toss me into the pit.

Evolution (not to be confused with abiogenesis) can explain the diversity of all the life forms found today.

QUOTE
I think there has to be a higher being...

That would be called the "God of the Gaps" argument. In which, you don't know something, or something unexplainable happens, therefore God. The Greeks had no idea how lightning worked, so they jumped to the conclusion that it was the act of Zeus.

My thoughts on the universe:

Maybe we're just microbes in a lab somewhere, some alien's experiment to create microscopic life forms. And maybe the aliens that have us in the lab are, them too, inside a lab created by other aliens.

LOL.

Ok, back to reality. I don't think we evolved from monkeys. Why would some monkeys be left behind? We evolved from our own line of... prehistoric humans like the neanderthal and whatever came before it.

But I also believe that God put us here in the first place and let us evolve and do what we want.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DrunkenWrestler on 2004-08-26 at 17:56:41
Yeah, possibly there is a God. Possibly we just a result of some teenage alien's science experiment. Possibly I don't really exist, everything you see, hear, and feel is just a by-product of your imagination - You're not sane! Possibly we're in a Sims gam. Possibly, the entire universe was just created five minutes ago with even our memories of "earlier" events intact.

As an atheist, I don't bother with this kind of stuff, I just go where ever the evidence leads me.

Life started on our Earth in this dimension when a group of Terrans in an alternate universe were creating some of the first teleporters. The units that were teleported were dropships with large amounts of units. After the units apperaed, they dissapeared in a matter of minutes. They were telepoted to this universe. The dropships crashed on Earth. The dropships and most technology was destroyed. The strain of traveling to a different universe erased everyone's memory. The surviving humans became cavemen. Then, history goes on.

Well I see that there is three main parts to life death first life etc. It started with the big bang. Then there is simple life. They evolve into complex organisms. Then these organisms kill each other and reduce life back to simple life. Again and again and again.

I believe in the big bang, life started somewhere, it has always been here, we weren't just suddenly here. We have very slowly evolved over time to become humans, we are very recent on the scale of time. And, I believe, sometime in the far, far future we will be replaced by something stronger and much more intelligent than humans.

Unless we nuke ourselves to death first. tongue.gif

I have come to believe that the Christian Bible has never been proven wrong, if you know otherwise, please explain.

Whereas..evolution (clearly not science) has been proven wrong scientifically multiple times.

I have come to believe that the Christian Bible has never been proven wrong, if you know otherwise, please explain.

There are just too many errors in the bible, and apologetics just can't seem to all agree on the correct way to correct for the errors.

Here is one contradiction in the Bible: Has anyone ever seen God?

QUOTE
Gen.12:7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said, " To your descendants I will give this land." So he built an altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him.

Gen.32:30 So Jacob named the place Peniel, for he said, " I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been preserved."

Ex.33:11 Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses returned to the camp, his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

VS

QUOTE
Jn.1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

1 Tim.6:16 who alone possesses immortality and) dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

1 Jn.4:12 No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us.

http://www.geocities.com/questioningpage/Bible1.html

Slight contradiction? Or metahphoric lines? Usually, the most popular way to amend the errors, is to say it wasn't ment to be taken litteraly. If that's the case, how would you know what parts are and are not metaphoric? I don't even buy half of the apologetics.

QUOTE

Of course it has (by religious groups coincidently). Evolution theory has as much evidence supporting it as gravity theory. I haven't yet seen a single valid argument against evolution theory. Perhaps you could provide some of these "scientific" evidences against evolution? I would bet they are distorted bulls*** strawmen arguments religious organizations utilize to brainwash their Christian zombies with.

I bleieve life was started by God. There is no other possible explanation. Even though people say that the universe was created in exactly seven days, I think each day could have been really billions of years.

dammit, I wish I knew my bible better, but Jesus said to throw out any rules that were stated or created from the old testament. That's part of being a christian, is the new testmant.
