What do you think happened to start off the universe what do you think went on the fist second of time voice your opinion pokey.gif

I dunno about the universe, but I've thought about how our planet came to exist. I go with the theory that a star supernovaed a long time ago. The matter it spread throughout space became attracted to other matter by gravity (an object with a larger mass exerting force on a smaller mass). After a long time, these gases and particles condensed into more solid matter. Depending on the elements inherent in each large blob of matter, chain reactions started to happen. The sun, for instance, ignited somehow and its chemical properties caused it to flare up. Our planet was a mass of elements that was squeezed into an oval shape by gravity. The denser elements gravitated towards the center (metals and iron) and the less-dense elements stayed on the outside of the ball (hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, etc.). That's how I've always thought our planet was formed. The first instance of life, however, is a whole different story. But that's a totally different topic.

wait...so is this topic about the origin of life or about the origin of the universe?

life (and I guess to an extent the universe): I believe in something called intelligent design, which means that God created us with the ability to evolve. I think that could go a step further, and say that God gave us and the universe the ability to run into each other and create planets and molecules and stuff

I don't really like thinking about the beginning of the universe, since the universe, really, is just reality.
So what could have existed before it to cause it to exist when it didn't exist before, wthout being part of the universe, paradoxicly?

God?

crud...not a long enough post...okay now it is
Report, edit, etc...Posted by EzDay281 on 2004-08-18 at 21:08:03
Then there was the existance of a Universe before God created it, because God was the current universe, and thus we would have to go back and figure out when God came to be, and what phenomenon happened to create him, that chose the moment it did to have it hapen even though it should have happened either never or instantly since it had nothing to encourage the happening.

Perhaps God is above all that...this is so hard to explain. Maybe God is a mad scientist who got stuck in the wrong demension...that's as close as I can get to what I am trying to say

I agree with Mini Moose. Why do people worry about where they came from anyways? Now that I think about it, it makes no sense why anyone would care. Same with the universe. who cares how big it is? We will never explore all of it because it is infinity...

Heh. it might be what alot of people have already said in inperfect but let me explain completly : in the beggining there was one star taking up all of the universes mass , that was called a cosmegg , then at some point , a massive energy surge caused it to overheat and explode , the explosion caused the mass to devide , thus creating planets asteroids etc. with time the hydrogen etc.. that remained also reformed as smaller stars , we dont know what was the exact nucklear force back then so we cant tell the size of the early stars but with time it evolved into what we have now . oh and CERNA , if you dont know what it is I wont bother to explain , also thinks that the energy overload was caused by God. thus completing their theory. yawn.gif melky smart!
oh and no the universe is not infinite , maybe our minds just cannot capt the notion of infinity , but if we listen to logic , it must end somewhere , the real confusin part is : WHAT THE HELL IS AFTER THE UNIVERSE ?!?!? another thing that anoys me , we know infinity exists because the cosmegg existed for ever , or did it get created by god or... DUN DUN DUUN

If i beleived in God, i would have to say that he created earth so he could put us here to "test" us to see if we are worthy of bieng in heaven.

Beacause i dont beleive in God, im gonna have to go with the Big Bang theory. its actually really interesting, i did a project for science on it.

Yea who cares! Why do we have to learn geometry when some of us are gonna be mcdonald cashiers anyway!

Well anyway I heard the universe is limited... but still thats some uh hard thinking.

I have to agree with FireKame. Intelligent Design makes more sense to me then the "Big Bang" theory which ironically violates many laws of science. Evolution is still a theory as well, never proved.

You all should consider yourselves lucky, we are on the ONE planet that has life, not too cold or hot, we live in AMERICA, not China where people are oppressed, and we all have computers where some people don't.

People want to know where they're from and how they came to be because they're afraid that their existence might be inconsequential. What they're really afraid of is death, and possible oblivion. So they seek out ideas that assuage their fears - religion, for example. For most religions, death isn't and end or finality, it's a new beginning. It makes people feel secure. I guess it's human nature to desire security. It's instinctual.

What i think? Scientists have found evidence of the same kind of stuff that cells are made of existed billions of years ago. Multicellular life has been around for an INCREDIBLY short time, only about 1/4th that of single celular life thought to have existed (wow that made little sense to me) anyways, meaning that Single Celular life has been around for a predicted 3.9 billion years, while multi-celular life has been around for only 1.
What i beleive is just a chance occurance in billions of opprotunities. A "bubble" became so. It could extracted other bubbles and separated. it kept doing this for quite a while untill another chance occurance created what drives evolution, and eventually this bubble evolved to have a simple flagelum, or possibly a flexible protected membrane, and had the ability to extact other of its kind. After another several hundred million years, several of these cells began a symbiotic relatation and started clumping together. Eventually, these cells formed so well together, by separating these cells would be to destroy this primitive multicelular organism. Evolution kept doing its job, and eventually this mutlicelular organism developed a hard carapace, and became well adapted to the open sea. It kept evolving untill it formed gills inorder to extract a vital nutrient which stimulate motor functions: oxygen. Possibly one of these gills moved up towards the "head", and became a mouth, capable of extracting nutrients from other organisms. Eventually these evolved into a perfect fish, a streamline body, a fin, and a scaly carapace. Other of this multi-celular organisms evolved into Jelly fish, or Plants, which provided corrosive oxygen to the world. Eventually, the competition was so high for food in the sea, several different species, most likely living near the edge of water, began having lungs, and being able to extract oxygen straight from the plentiful air which these aqua plants excreted, and eventually became adapted to the land. Plants have probably already taken root on land, and competition was scarce, so the animals evolved steadily, becoming dinosaurs, reptiles, amphibians, and near the end of the dinosaurs, weak armored, nimble mamals. When a comet wiped out all the dinosaurs, the mamals were able to evolve from its original rat like former self. Birds evolved from different strains of dinosaurs, and eventually a weak jawed large brained human, a decendant from a former primate, came on the scene. Most likely having the ability to walk bipedal from the need to look over the tall savanha grasses, they eventually used their front limbs for tool working, and then developed farming, domestication, and became the worlds most useless species.

Just my opinion on things

Revalade, your one of the people i scoff at angry.gif . This planet ISNT TOO COLD OR TOO HOT. Its not JUST RIGHT. You see, if this planet was COLDER, we would have evolved to survive and flourish in it. If it was any hotter, we would adapt and evolve to survive and flourish. Its not a coincedence that the planet is just too hot, we just adapted to survive is temprature

How did life appear on Earth?
Earth started off like other planets, Venus and Mars, full of carbon dioxide. The theory I believed is a meteor containing live cells crashed onto Earth and brought amino acid and organisms to Earth. Then lightning brought the amino acids together to form peptides, and then into protein which is the building blocks of life. Then after that some simple organism such as jellyfish and plants appeared (or algae) and started changing the environment more and more suitable for living. For example the trees in order to make food had changed carbon dioxide into oxygen. In addition animal waste had changed the soil so more animals can adapt to this "positively" changed environment.

I noticed everyone who plays SC cept me doesn't believe in God...

Geez... I bet every one of you play all day on Sundays... I go to Church EVERY Sunday...

I believe in God and go to church every Sunday. But if you're going to tell me the book of Genesis is the correct creation of the universe, I'm still going to laugh at you. Personally, I believe in evolution and the big bang and all that, but it had to be set in motion by God.
