Lol. That's all I have to say. You people know aboulutly NOTHING. The government is not some evil entiety out to get us; it's something that is designed to help us, to guide us, and to protect us.
The Patriot Act was made to expire after a couple years and then go into a consideration mode. The government was scared; scared for US. Nothing could be so dumb as to assume that the whole purpose was to try to invade our privacy.
Under the Patriot Act, the government has the write to read your email, monitor any phone lines, and so on and so forth. A automatic system was set up to search for certain keywords and keyphrases, and the ones that triggered those flags get put into another system that scans it more. Of all the email sent over the internet, only maybe a couple thousand have been read by a actual person.
The only reason you should be afraid, is if you have something to hide. Even if you post something bad about the Patriot Act, they won't come and arrest you. If the government could somehow catch a terrororist attack by scanning my email, then I will go to the government capital and give it to them with my blessings.

Oh yeah, the government is totally on my side. Politicians in no way ever look out for their own interests. They just want to help people.

Jeez, you get awful worked up about anything about politics, don't you. Restating what I said before, I think that the Patriot Act was the right thing to do at that time. For all we knew, the terrorists behind 9/11 were planning other attacks against large groups of people.
Politicians get into that business to help support their opinions, that's true. But what you're saying is that they got into that business to read our email. What's so important about our email anyway? Anyone with half a brain and some know-how can read you email, it's just a matter of looking in the right places.
The Patriot Act was justified and it's going to expire soon, or already has. Just think about what could of happened if it wasn't.
