there's this sim game called uplink, made by a single british guy in two years for this company called introversion. basically, the game's interface, plot, and overall actions are all about computer hacking.
this is the official site for introversion and uplink (its only product so far), but the game was also published in america by strategy first.
my idea is to create a similar map for starcraft, which is why this post isn't in the general gaming forum. i would say that to make the map for multiplayer would be difficult, but i hate making understatements. but to create the map in single player would be, aside from easy, very fun. i think all of you have seen "hacker defense", which is no different from any other defense, aside from the fact that it's PvP. it's a disgrace to all computer gamers, to say the least. if someone can create an uplink-like map, that'd be awesome. me? i have the full version of uplink, but i got my hands full getting my world of starcraft to beta version right now.
Here's an idea I thought about a long time ago but forgot about...
(I'm not using, because I thought of a superior one, however...)
Instead of levelling up and increasing armor, HP, Attack, 1 Spell, 10 Mana, so-on-so-on...
you choose at the end of each level up what the next level up will give you.
Ex. You lvl up, and you gained 50 HP. So you choose Mana, HP, and Attack.
After a while, you level up, and you gain 10 HP, 10 Mana, and 10 Attack.
This time you choose JUST HP. You lvl up after a while, and you gain 30 HP.
Topic unpinned - It seems rather pointless now.
mm I have an idea for maps... remaking old nintendo games like zelda(professionally) with a kind of "game pad" like maybe a dropship and you use your mouse and click on units to unload and it moves the character in that direction or does a certain thing... or maybe a unit production building, just using hotkeys to play the actual game.
Well the drop ship would be perfect, since there are eight "real" possible directions to take, which would be cool, and then maybe have another dropship/building to produce how long and far in that direction, though would be best for like a strange sort of "boundish map" like dodging things, would look easy, but god doing it that way would be hard!
That could get very complex, but very interesting to see how it can actually be put to use in maps... *ponders* Hmm...
Ok here is a map idea,
What about a bound map where you earn money every time you complete one of the obsticles (you gain 1 mineral), but if you fail to complete it you lose money (you lose 3 minerals). Now the money is used to upgrade your unit after you have completed so many bounds, and then you have a FFA battle, then back to bounding.
Now this all ends after one person gets so many wins the game ends in a victory for them.
Already in Battle Bound, but nice idea, you could also have it so that you choose between doing a bound the hard way or easy way, and if done the hard way, you can either get an upgrade of speed, (Zergling/Vulture/Stim) or enter a Special Round as it were.
I want to get away from bounds, defences, noob mass maps, and all the maps that have already been created. It's time for new sets of maps to be born. We have the "technology" to make maps so people will end up with saliva on their keyboards... Drooling...
We can rebuild the map.
We have the technology.
We can make it better.
Faster.
Stronger.

I have an idea for a new kind of defence map...
Dance defence. xD
Defences will include:
-Disabled tanks(they kind of dance)
-Crazy missile turret from the map tricks archive(it actually shoots too!)
-Controlling Scarabs and interceptors from the map tricks archive(dunno if you can make them attack. :/ Maybe just make the interceptors run back and fourth dropping "bombs")
-Disabled Science Vessel for detection(maybe use corsair to place it)
Hmm I dunno what else. xD
I may not be able to explain my idea very well, but here goes:
A "mapedit bound" whose overall goal is similar to 25/26/27 trix.
Using observers, you can toggle where locations are, and then you must use beacons or whatever to activate triggers like "move to", "patrol to", or "attack to", and all the other triggers.
examples of obstacles:
/---------1-------------
you command:
-zergling 1 attack 0 armor 1000 hp
>this ling does not BELONG to you, but a computer player, but you will see later that u use triggers to command it
mission objective:
-kill 50 marines
layout of level:
-narrow valley lined with 1000 hp bunkers filled with 10 attack firebats;
--you: one end of valley
--1 hp 1 attack marines: other side of valley
locations:
-Command Location centered on marines
trigger choices:
-all lings commanded by computer player: move to Command Location
-all lings etc.: patrol to Command Location
>basically if u choose patrol too early on, the ling'll attack the bunkers but die, and if u don't choose patrol at all then the ling won't attack the marines either
\-------------------------
okay, maybe that level was too childish, but u get the idea
i must make note that the game will not be all "triggers", see if you under stand the following level:
/-----------2-------------
you command (directly):
-1 hp 1 attack ghost with cloak, 1 hp dropship, twelve 1 hp 1 attack wraiths, 2 command center- 1 attached to comsat station, 1 attached to filled nuke silo
>these units DO belong to you, otherwise level may get too complicated
mission: destroy 250 shield 250 hp 10 attack photon cannon
layout of map: plateau (no ramp) overlooking photon cannon and 500 shield 500 health pylon, enemy observor on plateau set on patrol. to get ghost to plateau you have to use dropship, and to get dropship on plateau you have to get the dropship inside the cannon's attack range
>basically, cloak the ghost first so he doesn't accidentally attack automatically, put ghost in dropship, use wraiths as decoy, take dropship to drop ghost off on plateau where you see a ripple of the cloaked ob providing sight for cannon, comsat the ob, drop off ghost to lockdown, nuke cannon.
\--------------------------------
just remember,
what may be a "duh" to mapeditors will be a "huh" to everyone else on bnet
Jesus, i can never read anything you write! You know that right?
I like the dancing Defence, though the best would be a defence with a controller, who does the actual attacks on defence!
