Hey, I noticed that you didn't have Replayability as one of the factors to be judged. You should add that, it'll give random map generation even more of an edge. wink.gif

But wouldn't that also mean that they have to play every map more than once?

QUOTE(Merrell @ Nov 12 2005, 11:02 PM)
No farty, no glitches. Any square terrain = not allowed, any unplacable units when you open with campaign editor = not allowed.
It's still staredit only, and that is what the rules say. (My friend told me how to do square terrain ;D Need a Mac with a wheel mouse). And in the rules I don't see anything about not using glitches, it just says "No 3rd party programs".
QUOTE
Rules
-No third-party programs. PERIOD.
-Must be a rather original idea.
-Must be unprotected.
I don't see "No glitches."

If farty doesn't PM a judge working alt codes for colors, he's screwed. pinch.gif
Why would I be screwed? I didn't even join the contest.
Or do you just want them as proof?

EDIT: And in the FAQ I see nothing about glitches.
And it says colors are not allowed, wtf? Way back in the ays of 1.07 I made a "Starcraft Colors.txt" because none of the "Starcraft Colors!! - Add coloured text into your map!" programs didn't work. I still used StarEdit only.

Changing rules AFTER the contest is over. And just because I brought up a few things you were saying "No" to.
I still have the window open from before you changed the rules.

FAQ by Deathknight

Q: Can we use coloured text?
A: No, it has been removed due to absolute spam taking place in this topic.

Q: Can I use Xtra-Editor just to do... -- ?
A: If it can't be done in the regular Starcraft Campaign Editor, your map is disqualified.

Q: We can protect our maps after, right?
A: No. Protecting your map proves you have used a 3rd Party Program to complete it, therefore disqualifies your entry.

Q: How do I enter/[Sign up for] the contest?
A: By submitting a completed map to Syphon via Private Message located in the User Control Panel.

Q: Is there an entry fee?
A: There was an entry fee, but it has been revoked. There is no longer an entry fee.

No, I'm trying to explain to farty that the whole point of this mapping contest was to test people creativity, not to expose glitches is staredit, if I'd known of some of those glitches I would have made rules more precise when I opened the contest.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by O)FaRTy1billion on 2005-11-14 at 16:48:23
A nice little something I made in StarEdit. It didn't break any rules untill syphon changed them 4 days after the contest ended. The judges would have said "No" to it, but it still followed the rules.

[attachmentid=15240]
Even if I did that in.. lets say StarForge, it would have been removed in StarEdit. And as you can see, that is where the screenshot was taken.

Here is the map. StarEdit will say there is a midplaced doodad, but you can see it in StarForge. (Lol, I opened with SCMDraft and it removes it. SCMDraft --cut from post--)
[attachmentid=15241]

EDIT: (Ya took me forever to get this. Gay Irfanview didn't save)
Well you just said creativity of StarEdit. Glitches are creative and provide creativity.
You should have thought of them earlier though, instead of changing the rules after the contest ended.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Syphon on 2005-11-14 at 16:49:59
Oh well, why do you care if I changed the rules 4 days after the contest ended? The judges could reject any map they wanted to. It was up to our disgretion
Report, edit, etc...Posted by O)FaRTy1billion on 2005-11-14 at 16:53:27
I just find it unfair to change rules after the contest is over.

(Also I am in a bad mood since my mom's cat put deep cuts into 3 of my fingers disgust.gif)

Farty, the topic has been raised before, and they disallowed the use of Mac StarEdit then as well.

Seriously, what the heck farty. What do you think this contest was for? To see your skill on staredit, not to add tons of sprites and square terrain. That was the whole POINT of the contest, not to use any of that stuff!

If I would have saw ANY square terrain or sprites I would of disqualified them. Ok? Ok.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by The_Zekling on 2005-11-15 at 15:50:38
terrain isint the only thing in a UMS map. it helps the map look better and more professional but you could have an amazing map(terain wise) but have no plot in the game.

also i have a question. Do we have to submit our map to every judge or just to Syphon?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gigins on 2005-11-15 at 17:05:04
It's actually way to late to submit your map...

That was staredit. I could take a computer with just enough on it to install and play StarCraft. Install StarCraft, open Campaign Editor and do that. Nothing else used, just that little program that came on your CD.

A more appropriate description would be "StarEdit Only minus a few things." dots.gif

Also, what about the little glitch to place any race for one player?
(Place units, delete all units, change player race, press Undo)

Also it still followed rules... untill Syphon changed them 4 days after the contest ended.

Cut him some slack, it's his first contest. It's not like you lost any minerals or anything (at least I don't think so...). I think it was understood that the map shouldn't exploit any flaws in staredit's programming. Although Syphon didn't directly point that out, I think it was obvious enough.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by O)FaRTy1billion on 2005-11-16 at 00:58:15
I guess I shouldn't be saying anything, I didn't even enter the contest. tongue.gif

Lets just leave it at: be a bit more specific on what you mean by "StarEdit only" next time. (StarEdit how Blizzard wanted it to be)

*O)FaRTy1billion leaves topic forever.

At the very bottom it says in tiny green text: rules subject to change. You should have made that visable.
