Very true that this RPG you speak of would actually BE the only true one out there. However, saying that it has over 1,000 triggers isn't really necessary, partially because I've played several maps which have more than that. (So far the map I have seen with the most triggers ever is Master of Magic [by Frenn], which has a whopping 3,391 triggers in it).
Of course, back in the day (roughly around '99) those hack-'n-slash "RPGs" were considered very innovative and "original". However, after about 40 of the same damn thing, people figured out that they were repetitive and boring. Which made/makes me quite angry, partially because then most map-makers gave up on "RPGs", when they should have just tried to make them better. Then along came "Bound" maps, and boy, do I hate those. I played a couple when I was with clan (A)rsenal (which is currently dead as a door nail), but I was also the first of the clan to get extremely bored of them. I played at most 20 or so and realised that they were as bad as the hack-'n-slashers. Thank goodness no one (at least not the giant masses as before) make them anymore.
Right now I'm patiently waiting for "the next-big thing" for Star Craft (either that, or Star Craft 2, whichever comes first), and by the sounds of what you're planning here, it could be just that. Good luck with the project, and hopefully I'll be playing it before I know it.
you could use the kill counter for how the npcs react to you
if you have a lot of kills, an npc might consider you quite dangerous and some of them might even be afraid of you.
also you should do it sort of like fable from xbox where you can become evil.
i realize that if you started killing npcs that you could talk to b4 it could make the game very buggy
so instead have it where you start working with bosses instead of killing them and they give evil missions
just a couple of ideas to try out, dont know how they would work out but something to think about
Itll be really boring to play, sorry to break it to you but itll be really slow moving and not very fit for Battle.net play. Ithink something like this should be made in seperate scenarios (with variant paths like the Enslavers one that comes with starcraft) and be mainly fit for 1 player. Party play could be possible for Battle.net but I think that a really ****ing long "true" rpg is better when youve gotta save your game and play it later cause its a long thing.
And there are real RPGs on Battle.Net. Theres DnD.
Nothing is more rpg than DnD.
If you want an RPG go buy WoW or diablo. Or even wc3(because there is a save system in wc3 which isnt possible in starcraft[ie. load character so u can play with dif people ect.]). Starcraft isnt right for it. It would be boring to play an RPG on starcraft because you couldnt continue your game later. If you could find a way then it would be ok.
Well everything beer said is just a dream right now so I wouldnt get too excited
Can you give us a percentage on how far you are in the map. The whole talking thing would be insanly long to do
how much time do you have???
Wheat Xuru is an example of something you could continue in a later game. It's not the most convenient system and it's not very safe cause its pretty easy to cheat, but I can tell many people will take the idea into other sc maps.

Hm...But the way you put it, wouldn't RPGs on game consoles be considered psuedo RPGs as well? RPGs now are called RPGs due to the turn-based battle systems. In a game where you control the complete outcome of the game, that's what we call RPs. Of course, calling it an RP game, it would be known as an RPG. I suppose it's the abbreviations that link the two types of games, but I still draw a line on that.

rpg stands for role playing game so technically everygame is a rpg, tony hawk pro skater was considered a rpg metroid prime considered an rpg! but that is just the opinion of a game magazine i read and i think you should be able to level up in a rpg...
(they are not rpg's because of their turn based battle system otherwise kingdom hearts wouldnt be a rpg.)
